Star Wars at MT
NEW STAR WARS AT MADAME TUSSAUDS UNIQUE INTERACTIVE STAR WARS EXPERIENCE OPENS MAY 2015 A NEW multi-million pound experience opens at Madame Tussauds London in May, with a major new interactive Star Wars attraction. Created in close collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm, the unique, immersive experience brings to life some of film’s most powerful moments featuring extraordinarily life- like wax figures in authentic walk-in sets. Fans can star alongside their favourite heroes and villains of Star Wars Episodes I-VI, with dynamic special effects and dramatic theming adding to the immersion as they encounter 16 characters in 11 separate sets. The attraction takes the Madame Tussauds experience to a whole new level with an experience that is about much more than the wax figures. Guests will become truly immersed in the films as they step right into Yoda's swamp as Luke Skywalker did in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back or feel the fiery lava of Mustafar as Anakin turns to the dark side in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Spanning two floors, the experience covers a galaxy of locations from the swamps of Dagobah and Jabba’s Throne Room to the flight deck of the Millennium Falcon. Fans can come face-to-face with sinister Stormtroopers; witness Luke Skywalker as he battles Darth Vader on the Death Star; feel the Force alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn when they take on Darth Maul on Naboo; join the captive Princess Leia and the evil Jabba the Hutt in his Throne Room; and hang out with Han Solo in the cantina before stepping onto the Millennium Falcon with the legendary Wookiee warrior, Chewbacca. -

Be Mindful of the Future: Information and Knowledge Management in Star Wars Tie-In Fiction
Volume 13 Spring 2017 djim.management.dal.ca | Be mindful of the future: information and knowledge management in Star Wars tie-in fiction Diana Castillo School of Information Management, Dalhousie University Abstract In the last fifty years, media franchises have been using tie-in fiction to expand their universes and tell stories outside the main source material. This paper examines how information management is used specifically in Star Wars tie-in fiction and its recent transition to using knowledge management. To start, this paper looks at the history of tie-in fiction from its roots in the 1960s to the modern day, before transitioning to the role of brand managers and editors as information managers. Then, this paper documents the history of Star Wars tie-in fiction and how information management strategies were implemented through 2014 and how it impacted the franchise’s internal continuity. Finally, this paper examines the recent move towards a unified canon and how this shift towards knowledge management has impacted storytelling. This paper concludes that while it is too early to evaluate its results, Star Wars was uniquely situated among franchises to move towards knowledge management through its prior information management efforts. STAR WARS – EPISODE VI : “REVENGE OF THE JEDI ” Written by GEORGE LUCAS [REVISED] ROUGH DRAFT [June 12] © 1981 Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… 1. SPACE The boundless heavens serve as a backdrop for the MAIN TITLE. A ROLL-UP crawls into infinity. The Rebellion is doomed. Spies loyal to the Old Republic have reported several new armored space stations under construction by the Empire. A desperate plan to attack the Dreaded Imperial capitol of Had Abbadon and destroy the Death Stars before they are completed has been put into effect. Rebel commandos, led by Princess Leia, have made their way into the very heart of the Galactic Empire: as the first step toward the final battle for freedom…. Pan down to reveal the planet HAD ABBADON, capitol of the Galactic Empire. The gray planet’s surface is completely covered with cities and is shrouded in a sickly brown haze. Orbiting the polluted planet is a small, green, moon, a sparkling contrast to the foreboding sphere beyond. A large IMPERIAL TRANSPORT glides into frame. WE follow it, as it rockets toward the Imperial capitol. Four small TIE FIGHTERS escort the larger craft. The web-like structures of two Death Stars under construction loom in the distance as the transport approaches. Resting to one side of the half completed space station is Darth Vader’s super STAR DESTROYER and several ships of the Imperial fleet. One of the TIE Fighters escorting the Imperial transport begins to wobble and drops back with its engine sputtering. -
Starkiller Base Found!
SPACE SCOOP NOTÍCIAS DE TODO O UNIVERSO 2Starkiller de Agosto de Base 2016 Found! Starkiller Base is the headquarters of the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The base is not only twice the size of the Death Star, it's also much more powerful. We see this in the movie when it demolishes five planets at once! All that power has to come from somewhere, but where could Starkiller Base get that amount of energy? From the biggest nuclear reactors in the galaxy — stars. The base is called “Starkiller” because it literally drains the power from stars to charge its cannon. The energy is then released as a deadly blast of radiation. Thankfully neither the First Order nor Starkiller Base are real, but astronomers have just spotted a real ray gun that is equally powerful. This picture shows a binary (double star) system made up of two stars orbiting each other. A red dwarf star on the left and a white dwarf star on the right. Despite travelling the Universe together, the relationship between the two stars is anything but friendly. Just like Starkiller Base, the white dwarf accelerates particles up to almost the speed of light (the fastest speed possible in our Universe) and aims them at its companion star in a deadly beam. The explosions lash out so brutally that the entire star system appears to glows brightly for a short period. This pulsing led astronomers to mistake the system for a variable star for a long time. (A variable star brightens and dims over time.) While we’ve known that neutron stars can pulse for almost fifty years, this is the first time a white dwarf has shown similar behaviour! COOL FACT! The system can brighten by a factor of four in just 30 seconds! www.space-awareness.org/scoops . -

MASCULINE REPRESENTATIONS in STAR WARS by NICOLE
UNMASKING HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY: MASCULINE REPRESENTATIONS IN STAR WARS by NICOLE MARTINEZ B.A., University of Colorado Colorado Springs 2017 A thesis submitted to the Graduate Faculty of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communication 2019 © 2019 NICOLE MARTINEZ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii This thesis for the Master of Arts degree by Nicole Martinez has been approved for the Department of Communication by Christopher Bell, Chair K. Maja Krakowiak Katie Sullivan December 16, 2019 iii Martinez, Nicole (M.A. Communication) Unmasking Hegemonic Masculinity: Masculine Representations in Star Wars Thesis directed by Associate Professor Christopher Bell. ABSTRACT Star Wars has influenced generations of American viewers for decades but has gone largely unanalyzed when it comes to a critique of the discourses about masculinity presented in the films. This is problematic as media serves as an agent of socialization, and the representations of masculinity in the Star Wars franchise may influence viewers’ idealization of masculinity leading to real world consequences. The research questions being analyzed in this study are: Is hegemonic masculinity performed by central characters in Star Wars? If so, how is it reinforced, how is it challenged, and how do these change over time? This study uses a critical discourse analysis to analyze the character development of twenty central characters of the Star Wars franchise, how these characters are both challenged and aspire to fall into ideals of hegemonic masculinity, and how these ideals may shift over time. Keywords: Star Wars, Critical Discourse Analysis, Hegemonic Masculinity, Toxic Masculinity iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank all of the people in my life who made it possible for me to submit this thesis and pursue my Masters education. -
