(A suggestion is that if the content of your email is longer than this, it might be a good indicator that a face to face meeting is timely). Sensitive issues and information can be difficult to communicate via email. As an alternative we will call you or invite you in for a meeting. Any abusive, discriminatory, aggressive or inappropriate emails will not be tolerated. Staff will not reply and instead, they will forward these to senior management. Emails are only one tool to provide equitable opportunities for families and teachers to build positive partnerships to support students and their learning and development, we also have: ‘Getting to know you’ meetings in January ‘Next Steps’ meetings with the teacher twice a year Yachting see page 8 Phone calls Class and school newsletters Additional scheduled meetings Before/after school visits to the class Parent help for sports/cultural groups Team learning celebration events for inquiry School trips Parent information sessions NUMBER 6 11 March 2019 Industrial Matters: Teachers 2019 TERM DATES In the context there has been no resolution to the negotiations between the primary teachers’ union (NZEI) and the Ministry of of Education, the union has TERM ONE called for teacher members to attend paid union meetings during the week 18 - 4 February – 12 April 22 March. TERM TWO 29 April – 5 July In order to reduce disruption to schools the union will be holding a series of TERM THREE meetings in our area. This means teachers will go to meetings at different times during the week meaning it will be straightforward to cover their absences. 22 July – 27 September Hence, the school will remain open at all times during the week of 18 - 22 TERM FOUR 14 October – 19 December ANZAC Commemoration PROFESSIONAL The commemoration will be held from 9.30 am on Friday 12 April DEVELOPMENT DAY on the netball court and in the hall if wet. NUMBER 6 11 March 2019 Police Vetting: Urgent & Important! Only adults who have had a police vet will be able to help with school activities from January 2017 onwards. As obtaining a police vet takes time, if you are considering being available to help with school activities in any way in 2019 please act now, as follows...... Please go to the school website to ‘Police Vetting for Volunteers at CBS’ under Parent Information and complete the form and attach photocopies as per the instructions. Please note a police vet remains current for three years after the date of issue by the police. WELCOME To the following students who have started at Campbells Bay School: Violet Winter, Jamie Winter, Leanne Rojen The 2019 Board of Trustee elections are to be held in June this year. Campbells Bay School will be looking for five parent representatives and one staff representative for a three year term. We would like to really encourage our school community to participate in this election. You are warmly invited to attend the next Board meeting held in the Conference Room at 7.30pm on 27 March if you are interested. Information will be available on the role of a trustee and what skills are involved in the upcoming school newsletters. Our Travelwise Reps will be out and about checking to see if you ride bikes or scooters to school you are wearing your helmets. Please do not ride your bike and scooters around sneaky corners at CBS. Get off and walk your bikes and scooters and keep yourself and others safe. Constable Murray Fenton is working at CBS and checking that scooters and bikes are safe. He is also checking to see helmets are worn correctly. Constable Fenton says, “Wear your helmet. Wear your helmet right.” Keep yourhead and brain safe.
