HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA 20th Season = CSUN, 1994 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2016 BIG WEST COACH OF THE YEAR

HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA enters his 20th season at the helm of the Matadors’ men’s soccer program in the Fall of 2018. A six-time Big West Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year, Davila has led CSUN to seven NCAA Tournament Appearances while producing 13 draft picks in his tenure with the Matadors.

2017 saw Davila lead CSUN to a second consecutive Big West South Division Championship and a semifinal appearance in the Big West Tournament. Henrik Regitnig was named Big West Goalkeeper of the Year while seven players earned All- Conference honors. Two players, Emmanuel Usen, Jr. and Darion Mealing were chosen third team All-Region.

In 2016, Davila guided the Matadors to the Big West South Division Title and Big West Tournament championship en route to earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Following the regular season, Davila was named the Big West Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his coaching career.

Under Davila’s watch, CSUN also has captured the 2003 and 2005 Big West Championships and then won the Big West Tournament title in 2012. The team also participated in the postseason in 2002, 2004 and 2013, hosting NCAA Tournament matches in 2005, 2012, 2013 and 2016. The Matadors advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the 2005 tournament, defeating UC Santa Barbara at Matador Soccer Field in the Round of 32.

Among the Matadors to reach the top professional league in the United States (MLS) are former Matadors Sean Franklin, Rafael Garcia, Daniel Paladini, Joe Barton, Benjamin Benditson, Willie Sims, Chad Borak and Joe Franco. In the 2015 MLS Superdraft, the Matadors set a new program record by having two players (Sagi Lev-Ari and Edwin Rivas) selected in the same class.

In all, Davila has produced 25 NSCAA All-Far West Region selections and three All-Americans. In the Big West Conference, Davila’s student-athletes have cap- tured three Big West Freshman of the Year, six Big West Goalkeepers of the Year, one Big West Midfielder of the Year, five Big West Defensive Players of the Year and two Big West Offensive Players of the Year. Davila’s student-athletes have also collected 46 first team All-Big West awards since moving into the league full time in 2001.

Davila has also created a family environment among CSUN men’s soccer by welcoming back former student-athletes into coaching jobs within the program. CSUN women’s soccer head coach Keith West played for CSUN and then became an assistant on the men’s program before taking over the women’s job full time in 2006. Current associate head coach Zachary Feldman is a former Matador student-athlete and former associate head coach Yossi Raz parlayed both his play- ing and coaching experience at CSUN into head coaching jobs at Cal Poly Pomona and UC Irvine.

Davila became just the fourth head coach in the history of the men’s program when he succeeded Marwan Ass’ad in 1999. Davila spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons leading both the women’s and men’s soccer teams. The CSUN women’s program posted two winning seasons (23-14-1) under Davila, and tied a pro- gram-record with 12 wins in 2004. He was named Big West Conference women’s soccer Coach of the Year in 2004 after the Matadors clinched their first ever berth into the Big West Tournament.

A former four-year starter for the Matadors, Davila spent three seasons (1995-97) as the top assistant under Ass’ad before taking over the head job.

Davila graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from CSUN in 1994. Davila and his wife Stephanie have two daughters, Jayden and Olivia, and one son, Devin.
