Comfort Class, iets meer beenruimte HOTEL Sandman Calgary Airport With the opening of the Airport Trail tunnel, Sandman Hotel & Suites Calgary Airport is excited to offer a 24-hour courtesy shuttle service to and from YYC. Dus dichtbij genoeg happen. Priority Inchecken! taxi naar Ardrie??? Of shuttle… Telefoonnummer van FraserWay op voucher. !2 / 51! !3 / 51! !4 / 51! Dag 3 Banff Kort plan: Ochtend vroeg op pad Bow Valley Parkway (dieren?) rijden, 6 km wandelen Johnston canyon, Middag lunch in Banff town(?), rijden Tunnel Mountain Drive, kijken Bow Falls thee Banff Fairmont Springs Hotel even koekeloeren, Hot springs relaxen dan naar Minnewanka VROEG!!! Bow Valley Parkway Wandeling op de Bow Valley Pwy Johnston Canyon Resort to Ink Pots—5.8 km (3.6 mi) • Half-day trip, allow 45 minutes to Upper Falls • Elevation gain: 215 m (700 ft) • Maximum elevation: 1645 m (5,400 ft) • Maps: Banff 82 O/4; Castle Mountain 82 O/5 • Check trail conditions before you go Brochures Banff Access: Follow the Bow Valley Parkway west from its eastern interchange with the Trans- Canada Highway 17.5 km (11 mi) to Johnston Canyon. The parking area is on the east side of Johnston Creek. From the rear of the parking area, follow the trail leading across a footbridge to the lodge and trailhead on the west side of the creek. The trail to the waterfalls of Johnston Canyon has to be the busiest in the Canadian Rockies. Nearly every day throughout the summer, hundreds of hikers follow its canyon-clinging catwalks and cliff-mounting staircases to the gorge’s Lower and Upper Falls. While the canyon and its unique trail are certainly worthy of a visit, you’ll have to do the hike in the evening or very early in the morning to avoid the hordes. 0.0 - Johnston Canyon Lodge (1430 m). 1.1 - Lower Falls. 2.7 - Upper Falls (1565 m). 3.2 - Junction. Intersection with Johnston Creek trail at km 2.7 (see Sawback Range Circuit). Keep right for Ink Pots. 5.3 - Trail narrows. Gradual descent to Johnston Creek meadows. • Time: half-day hike (1-2hrs one way) • Distance: 7 km (4.5 miles) return or 3.5 km from Lake Louise • Elevation Gain: 400 m (1300 ft)!! • Altitude: 2135 m (7005 ft) • Difficultly: moderate, depending on trail conditions (early June or fall may have snow) • Maps: available at the Lake Louise or Banff visitor centers • Footware: the trail is relatively smooth all the way. Comfortable running shoes or trainers are recommended. Hiking boots are not necessary. Urban footwear with smooth soles and/or big heels are not recommended. • Clothing: the mountain weather, especially in the autumn, can change rapidly and be cold and wet. Be sure to bring extra layers if it is cold up at Lake Agnes. Be sure to bring a rain jacket, sweater or fleece, hat and mitts/gloves if you are hiking in June or September. Your trek to Lake Agnes begins at Chateau Lake Louise (a 10 min car ride from the village of Lake Louise and the Lake Louise Inn): 1 From the public parking lot, find the lakeshore trail near the Chateau, and walk along the paved promenade for approximately 200m (Lk. Louise on your left, Chateau on your right). 2 Keep an eye out for the Lake Agnes trail, which will branch off just as the Chateau grounds are ending, just past the bronze statue of a Swiss mountain guide. At this point, leave the lakeshore trail and ascend the right hand "fork" in the trail. There should be a sign that says, “Lake Agnes 3.6km” 3 The main paved trail, heading

  • A Second Annotated Checklist of Vascular Plants in Wells Gray Provincial Park and Vicinity, British Columbia, Canada
A second annotated checklist of vascular plants in Wells Gray Provincial Park and vicinity, British Columbia, Canada Version 1: April, 2011 Curtis R. Björk1 and Trevor Goward2 ENLICHENED CONSULTING LTD. Box 131, Clearwater, BC, V0E 1N0, Canada [email protected], [email protected] Vascular Plants in Wells Gray SUMMARY Wells Gray Provincial Park is a vast wilderness preserve situated in the mountains and highlands of south-central British Columbia. The first major floristic study of the vascular plants of Wells Gray and its vicinity was published in 1965 by Leena Hämet-Ahti, who documented 550 taxa, including a first Canadian record of Carex praeceptorium. The present study contributes nearly 500 additional taxa documented by us between 1976 and 2010 in connection with our personal explorations of the Clearwater Valley. The vascular flora of Wells Gray Park and vicinity now stands at 1046 taxa, including 881 native species and 165 species introduced from Eurasia and other portions of British Columbia. Wells Gray Park is notable both for the presence of numerous taxa (45) at or near the northern limits of their range, as well as for an unexpectedly high number of taxa (43) accorded conservation status by the British Columbia Conservation Data Centre. Antennaria corymbosa has its only known Canadian locality within Wells Gray, while five additional species reported here are known in Canada from fewer than six localities. About a dozen unknown, possibly undescribed taxa have also been detected. Botanical inventory has thus far been confined to the southern portions of Wells Gray. Future studies in northern half of the park will certainly greatly increase our knowledge of the biological diversity safeguarded in this magnificent wilderness preserve.
