Finale ...... Entire Cast Ballet Synopsis Act I The story is set inVienna in the middle of the 19th-century. Herr Silberhaus, his wife, along with his children, Clara and Fritz, celebrate the holiday festivities with their friends and family. During this night, the guests and their children rejoice in the magical Christmas atmosphere that Herr Drosselmeyer, Clara’s godfather, brings to the Silberhaus home. He fills the festivities with magical entertainment, dancing dolls, and toys for the children. Herr Drosselmeyer has a special surprise for Clara, a . Overjoyed, Clara dances with her new Nutcracker but her jealous brother, Fritz, damages the Nutcracker. Herr Drosselmeyer fixes it with his magic powers, and after one final dance the guests leave. That night, Clara falls into a deep sleep but is woken by giant mice that menace and threaten her. Herr Drosselmeyer protects her and helps her escape. She finds herself back in the living room where, to her amazement, the grows to giant size and she finds herself in the midst of a huge battle between an army of tin soldiers and the mice. The Nutcracker doll comes to life and duels with the King Mouse. The Nutcracker ultimately rescues Clara from the King Mouse whom she distracts by throwing her slipper thus saving herself from his clutches. Herr Drosselmeyer takes Clara on the first part of a magical journey, the first stop of which is the Land of Snow presided over by the Snow Queen and her Cavalier. Act II Herr Drosselmeyer then takes Clara to the Land of Sweets where she is met by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court of angels. Clara recounts her story of battle with the King Mouse. As a reward, the Sugar Plum Fairy performs her famous dance for Clara and invites her to stay and watch while she is entertained by the many Divertissements who inhabit her kingdom.

He performed with the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera Ballet, and the London Festival Ballet before coming to New York in 1976 to join the Eglevsky Ballet as ballet master and resident choreographer. He was artistic director of the Long Island-based company from 1989 to 1996. He has choreographed numerous works for ballet companies in the United States and worldwide. Mikhail Baryshnikov commissioned him to choreograph In a Country Garden for . His soloS'Wonderful was danced by ABT principal Cynthia Harvey in the presence of President and Mrs. Reagan and shown nationwide on CBS television. He also worked as the assistant choreographer on Ken Russell's movie Valentino, starring Rudolph Nureyev and Leslie Caron. Vernon has taught at StepsNYC for many years working with dancers from , American Ballet Theatre, and many other high profile companies. He is an integral part of the Manhattan Dance Project which brings NY-style master classes to all regions of the country. He has been involved with the Ballet Program at Chautauqua Institute since 1995, regularly teaches and mentors dancers for Ballet Hawaii in Honolulu, and is the artistic director for Ballet School of Stamford in Connecticut. Vernon has been company teacher for ABT, , Ballet, Alvin Ailey Company and School, as well as guest teacher for The Julliard School.

Jorge Mariano Carciofolo, Conductor, a native of La Plata, Argentina, was invited to join the Teatro Argentino in 1976 as a coach, and one year later he was asked to conduct Verdi's La traviata six hours before the first performance, without any rehearsal. The performance was a success, and he has since earned a reputation for powerfully dramatic musicianship at the podium as an opera conductor. He was appointed music director and conductor of Teatro Argentino Orchestra for eight seasons, followed by nine seasons as director of studies. Recently, he was artistic director of the Chamber Season. From 1992 to 2005, Carciofolo was engaged by the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, first as chorus master for six seasons and then as director of studies and as artistic secretary. He has appeared with some of the finest Argentinian orchestras, such as Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Teatro Colón Orchestra, and Teatro Argentino Orchestra, conducting opera and ballet performances, as well as symphonic and choral concerts, at all the major theaters in Argentina. His opera credits include Aida, La traviata, Rigoletto, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro, , La bohème, , , , Lucia di Lammermoor, L'elisir d'amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Dido and Aeneas, and Cavelleria rusticana. He has also conducted such as Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and Histoire du soldat; Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty; Delibes' Coppelia; Minkus' Don Quichotte; Ginastera's Estancia; Shedrin-Bizet's Carmen; and Offenbach'sGaite parisienne. Handel's Messiah, Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht, Verdi's Stabat Mater, W. A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, the complete cycle of Beethoven's symphonies, and many others. Carciofolo completed studies in piano at the Conservatory of La Plata and in conducting at La Plata National University and at the Conservatory of Music Santa Cecilia in Rome with Franco Ferrara. He took master classes in conducting with Julius Rudel, Bruno Rigacci, and Boris Golovsky in the USA, and in chamber music with cellist Enrico Mainardi in Taormina, Sicily, and Luzern, Switzerland. He has conducted at the Philadelphia Musical Academy Opera Department, served as coach and pianist for the Licia Albanese master classes, and worked as a musical assistant at the Philadelphia Lyric Opera and the Pennsylvania Opera Company. This is Carciofolo's second appearance with the IU Opera and Ballet Theater, following his engagement as the conductor of L'elisir d'amore at the 2007 Summer Music Festival.

C. David Higgins, Set & Costume Designer. Born in Bloomington, Ind., and raised not two blocks from campus, C. David Higgins started his theatrical studies at IU intent on becoming an actor/dancer before he discovered his love for scenic design. He studied with the famous C. Mario Cristini and became proficient in the Romantic- Realist style of scenic design and painting. After earning his master’s

He was appointed to the faculty in 1976 and now serves as chair of the Opera Studies Department and principal designer for Opera Theater, where he designs both scenery and costumes for major new productions. His design credits throughout the United States include the San Antonio Festival, Memphis Opera, Norfolk Opera, Louisville Opera, Detroit Symphony, Canton Ballet, and Sarasota Ballet, as well as many other venues. His Indiana University productions have been seen throughout North America as rentals by major regional opera companies. His many international credits include the Icelandic National Theater; Ballet San Juan de Puerto Rico; Korean National Opera; Seoul City Opera; Korean National Ballet; Dorset Opera (England); Teatro la Paz de Belem, Brazil; and the Teatro National de São Paulo, Brazil. He has designed the scenery for the world première of Our Town (Ned Rorem), the American premières of Jeppe (Sandström) and The Devils of Loudun (Penderecki), and the collegiate premières of Nixon in China (Adams) and The Ghosts of Versailles (Corigliano), as well as many other operas and ballets. Known for his Italianate painting style, Opera News magazine has referred to Higgins as one of the finest American scenic artists today.

Robert O’Hearn, Costume Designer, earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1943. He was a scenic and costume designer for the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna Staatsoper, Vienna Volksoper, Hamburg Staatsoper, New York City Opera, Greater Miami Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, , and . He served as professor for the Studio and Forum of Stage Design in New York from 1968 to 1988. O’Hearn has also given guest lectures and classes at Carnegie Mellon, Brandeis, and Penn State University. O’Hearn retired from IU in the spring of 2008.

Doricha Sales, Ballet Mistress & Children’s Ballet Mistress. Doricha Sales began training at the with founder, E. Virginia Williams, at the age of four. She also trained at the School of American Ballet and Walnut Hill School of the Arts as a merit scholarship recipient, respectively. Sales has danced with Boston Ballet II, Boston Ballet, Dance Theater of Florida, and Florida Dance Theater, and has been a guest artist with Ballet Florida and the Indianapolis Ballet Theater. After her performing career, Sales became an advocate of arts and education working as director of ballet for Rochelle School of the Arts and Harrison School of the Arts, as a dance representative of the Hawaiian Alliance for Arts and Education, and served on the Committee for Artistic Excellence in Florida. She is currently the director of the Jacobs School of Music Pre- College Ballet Program. Sales’ degrees, include a Bachelor of Science in Ballet Performance and History and a Master of Science in Ballet Pedagogy and Educational Psychology, all from Indiana University. Chun Chi An, Rehearsal Accompanist. A native of China, Chun Chi An graduated from Beijing Music school in the early 70s. As a principal pianist, he worked with Beijing Central from 1972 to 1982. He came to America in 1982 and earned a master’s degree in piano performance. From 1982 to 1992, he worked with Ballet West, Richmond Ballet, , and Ballett der Deutschen Oper am Rhein (Germany). As a music director, he has been working with the Ballet Department in the Jacobs School of Music since 1992.

Sophia Fatouros, Assistant to the Children’s Ballet Mistress. Originally from Bloomington, Ind., Sophia Fatouros’ first performing experience was with Indiana University’s The Nutcracker as The Girl Who Cried. After attending performing arts boarding schools, Fatouros performed professionally in such companies as the Kassel Staatsheater in Germany, Alberta Ballet in Canada, in Ohio, and of New York. For the past 17 years, she has taught ballet in New York City, focusing primarily on training beginners of all ages. She has taught at The Ailey School for twelve years, where she also was administrator for a performing arts high school dance major program. Additionally she has taught at Steps on Broadway, the 92nd Street Y, Dance New Amsterdam, and was dance director for The Harlem School of the Arts. Fatouros graduated summa cum laude from Hunter College in 2003 as an English major.

Irina Ter-Grigoryan received her degrees of piano performance, pedagogy, and as an accompanist in the former Soviet Union. Ter-Grigoryan served as a faculty member at the Baku State Conservatory and as an accompanist for the Azerbaijan State Theater Opera and Ballet. She was selected from a small pool of musicians to accompany international and regional competitions representing the Soviet Union. During her time in the United States, Ter- Grigoryan has continued her work as an accompanist with the Temple Square Concert Series Recitals in Salt Lake City, Utah, the University of Utah, and Ballet West Co., and as a collaborative pianist at DePauw University. Ter-Grigoryan currently holds the position of accompanist and music director with the Indiana University Ballet Department.

Violette Verdy, Principals’ Coach. Violette Verdy is currently on the ballet faculty at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet for 20 years and an international ballerina with major companies in America and Europe. She is a former artistic director of the and Boston Ballet. Throughout her career, she has taught for many ballet companies and schools, including New York City Ballet, the Royal Ballet, the Paris Opera, Company, the Royal Danish, and, most recently, the Company, the first outside female teacher invited since 1917. Verdy is also the principal artistic advisor for the Rock School of Ballet, Philadelphia, Pa. In 2008, she was recognized as Chevalier (Knight) in France’s National Order of the Legion of Honor, an award from President M. Nicolas Sarkozy. The order is France’s highest decoration.

Guoping Wang, Ballet Master. A native of China, Wang studied ballet at the Ballet Department of the Shanghai Dance School and in the graduate program at the School of Music of Indiana University. He danced with the Shanghai Ballet Company from July 1980 to October 1991. Wang joined Ballet Chicago in 1993, performing leading roles with the company through 1995. In 1997, while also a principal dancers with the of Chicago, Wang was recognized by the Chicago Dance Community with a Ruth Page Award for Outstanding Dance Achievement. Wang has been on the faculty of the School of Ballet Chicago and a guest teacher and coach for the Indiana University Ballet Theater. This is Wang’s sixth year as a full-time faculty member at IU.

IUBT Featured Dancers Mary-Quinn Aber (Sugar Plum Fairy, 12/5) was born in Boca Raton, Fla. and is currently a sophomore at Indiana University. From 2008 to 2009, she danced with the San Francisco Ballet School, where she trained under the instruction of Lola de Avila, Jean Yves Esquerre, Lynn Charles, Parrish Maynard, and Jorge Esquivel. She performed in San Francisco Ballet’s The Nutcracker(Helgi Tomasson) in Snow and Flowers. As a freshman, Aber performed the lead role of Cowgirl in Agnes de Mille's Rodeo and a demi-soloist (Russian girl) in Balanchine’s Serenade. Aber just recently performed in Balanchine’s Glinka Pas de Trois and the principal role (The Red Girl) in Twyla Tharp’s Noir.

Ellen Barlow (Lead Spanish, 12/3 & 12/5; Snow Queen, 12/5), a native Hoosier, trained with the Ruth Page Foundation School of Dance. Later on scholarship, she studied under Petrus Bosman, David Keener, and Martha Faesi at the Virginia School of the Arts, where she graduated in 2006. Barlow comes to IUBT after performing with II for the 2007-2008 season, and with North Carolina Dance Theater as an apprentice for the 2006-2007 season. She has attended summer intensives at , Washington School of Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Joffrey Midwest Workshop, North Carolina Dance Theater, Tulsa Ballet, and Orlando Ballet. IUBT performance highlights include Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments and Serenade, Michael Vernon’s Swan Lake, and Matthew Neenan’s My Eyes Opened. Barlow is a third- year senior, pursuing a degree in Ballet performance and an Outside Field in English. She is a member of the Hutton Honors College, Delta Gamma sorority, IU Founders Scholars, and Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma Honors Societies, and is the recipient of a Music Faculty Merit Scholarship.

Brette Benedict (Snow Princess & Lead Mirliton, 12/4 eve.) is a junior from Peoria, Ill., studying to receive a Bachelor of Science in Ballet Performance with a minor in French. At the age of 12, she began serious ballet training at the Geiger Classic Ballet Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. In 2006, her dance training continued at The Rock School for Dance Education as a junior in high school. The past two summers she has attended the Chautauqua Dance Summer Program, on scholarship. She had the opportunity to perform with the North Carolina Dance Theatre in Balanchine’s production of Raymonda and Western Symphony. This past summer she spent training at Lines Ballet with Alonzo King. Since being at IU Ballet Theater, she has performed in Les Noces as The Friend of the Bride and was most recently featured as The Rancher’s Daughter in Rodeo in the 2009-2010 season.

Catherine Bianco (Clara, 12/4 mat. & 12/5), a 12-year old seventh grader at Jackson Creek Middle School, started ballet at the Ballet Theater of Central Pennsylvania when she was six and has been hooked on it ever since. After moving to Bloomington when she was eight, Bianco began lessons at the IU Pre-College Ballet Program under the direction of Doricha Sales. In previous years of The Nutcracker, Bianco performed as an Angel, Lead Angel, and a Party Girl. When she is not dancing, Bianco enjoys playing cello, acting, and drawing. Vincent Brewer (Lead Trepak, 12/3 & 12/5; Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/4 eve.), originally from Great Barrington, Mass., is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Ballet with an Outside Field in Religious Studies and a minor in French. He trained with the Albany Berkshire Ballet and Berkshire Pulse. He attended Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and Chautauqua Institute summer programs on full scholarship. Roles at IU include Melancholic in Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments (2008-2009), the male principal in Balanchine's Valse Fantasie (2009-2010), and Cavalier, Snow Prince, and Trepak in Michael Vernon’s Nutcracker (2009-2010). He has received scholarships from the Jacobs School of Music, Hutton Honors College, and an award from the National Society of Arts and Letters. This summer Brewer danced with the Eglevsky Ballet under the leadership of Marina Eglevsky.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Rochelle Chang (Arabian 12/4 eve.) started ballet at the age of eight under the main instruction of Lee Olsen. She attended many summer intensives, including San Francisco Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet, and Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet. Chang is currently a sophomore, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Ballet Performance with an Outside Field in Elementary Education. She is a member of the Hutton Honors College, a sister of Kappa Gamma Delta, and the Secretary of the Filipino Student Association at IU.

Paul Dandridge (Cavalier, 12/3 & 12/5; Snow Cavalier & Lead Trepak, 12/4) grew up in Richmond, Va., studying on scholarship at the School of Richmond Ballet. Upon graduation from the school, Dandridge was promoted to the Corps de Ballet in the company, as a Trainee. Lead roles he has performed at IUBT include The Poet in Les Sylphides (2007-2008), The Blue Boy in Les Patineurs (2007-2008), Prince Sigfried in Swan Lake (2008-2009), Sanguinic in The Four Temperaments (2008- 2009), and The Wrangler in Rodeo (2009-2010), in addition to original roles by Michael Vernon, Guo Ping Wang, Violette Verdy, and Matthew Neenan. Dandridge is a recipient of scholarships from the Music Dean, the Friends of Music, and the E. Sweeney Scholarship, in addition to being a National Merit Scholar through the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. He is a Senior, studying philosophy as an Outside Field.

Elizabeth Fittro (Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/4 eve.) is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, where she trained with the Otto M. Budig Academy of for nine years. She attended summer programs at the School of American Ballet, Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Washington Ballet, and Joffrey Midwest. Before coming to Indiana University in the fall of 2008, Fittro performed corps roles in Cincinnati Ballet’s performances of the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. While at IU, she has performed corps roles in Swan Lake, Les Noces, Rodeo, and Balanchine’s Rubies. Starting this year as a junior, she will graduate in spring 2011. Dylan Giles (Arabian, 12/4 mat.; Cavalier 12/4, eve.) began his training at the age of six at the Raleigh School of Ballet in Raleigh, N.C. He has performed with the pre-professional company Raleigh Dance Theatre in ballets including Les Sylphides and Sleeping Beauty. He has also performed with in various productions and attended summer programs at North Carolina Dance Theatre, Boston Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.

Grace Hellweg (Arabian, 12/4 mat.), a sophomore from Kansas City, Moi, is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Ballet with an outside field in Communications and Culture. She began her training at American Dance Center with Kathy and Dennis Landsman and continued on to graduate from Walnut Hill School in Natick, Mass., where she studied for four years on scholarship under Michael Owen and Samuel Kurkjian. Hellweg also attended several summer programs, including Joffrey Midwest and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Gabriela Johnson (Arabian, 12/3; Snow Queen, 12/4 mat.) is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Ballet with an outside field in Sociology. Her professional ballet training began at the Academy of Ballet Arts in Saint Petersburg, Fla., under the direction of Suzanne Pomerantzeff. She has continued her training at summer programs such as the Orlando Ballet School, School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Kirov Academy, and the Rock School. Johnson is the recipient of a Walker Rising Stars scholarship and three gold medals at Youth America Grand Prix Ballet competition and also received recognition from the National Arts competition in 2009. Following college and a professional ballet career, she plans to attend law school.

Iver Johnson (Drosselmeyer, 12/3 & 12/4 eve.; Snow Cavalier & Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/5) began his dance training at the age of nine. At 17, he attended the Rock School summer intensive and was asked to stay year round. The following year, he continued his training at the Miami City Ballet School. Over the years, he has performed with Sarasota Ballet Company and Dayton Ohio Ballet. Johnson has trained with José Manule Carreno, Amar Ramasar, and Daniel Ulbricht. This is Johnson's second year at Indiana University and with IUBT. Caitlin Kirschenbaum (Sugar Plum Fairy, 12/3; Snow Queen, 12/4 eve.) began her ballet training in her hometown of Sparta, N.J. Upon entering high school she trained at the Walnut Hill School for one year and went on to study under partial scholarship for three years at American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. Kirschenbaum, a senior, is the recipient of merit scholarships from both the Jacobs School of Music and the Hutton Honors College. In addition, she was the first place winner in the Bloomington chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters ballet competition in 2008 and 2010. At IU, Kirschenbaum has been featured in ballets choreographed by Violette Verdy, Michael Vernon, and Matthew Neenan, and her most recent roles include the Black Swan in Swan Lake, the Sugar Plum Fairy and Arabian in Vernon’s production of The Nutcracker, and the lead roles in George Balanchine’s Valse Fantasie, Rubies, Glinka Pas de Trois, and Allegro Brilliante.

Megan Liberty (Snow Princess & Lead Mirliton 12/3; Lead Spanish, 12/4; Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/5) received the majority of her ballet training from Valia Seiskaya at the Seiskaya Ballet Academy in St. James, N.Y. During high school, she trained on full scholarship at The Washington School of Ballet under Rebecca Wright and later graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Christopher Lingner (Drosselmeyer, 12/4 mat. & 12/5; Arabian, 12/4 eve.) began dancing in a small studio in Indianapolis at the age of five. After high school, Lingner joined the 2008-2009 national tour of Movin’ Out, and then joined the original cast of Hairspray [Brad] and was a featured aerialist in the revue show, Come Fly With Me, on the Oasis of the Seas. Lingner also performed with Clint Holmes in his new musical My Own Song at Flatrock Playhouse. Lingner has also been a featured guest artist with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and Indianapolis School of Ballet.

Audrey Litten (Clara, 12/3 & 12/4 eve.), born in Bloomington, Ind., has been studying ballet with the Jacobs School of Music Pre-College Ballet Program since the age of five. As a student in Ballet VI and under the guidance of Doricha Sales, Litten trains ten hours per week. This is Litten’s sixth year in IU Ballet Theater’s The Nutcracker, in which she has previously performed as an Angel, a Mother Ginger’s Child, Party Child, and as Clara in 2009. The 12 year-old is a seventh grader at St. Charles Catholic School and maintains an A average. Litten enjoys drawing, being a member of the Cross Country team, and is active in 4H when not studying ballet. Alyssa Lynch (Lead Mirliton, 12/5) is a junior ballet major from Franklin, Mass. She began her training under Cathy Hazeltine Fallon at the Patricia Brosnihan Dance Center in Hopkinton, Mass. At the age of thirteen, she continued her training at the Boston Ballet School, where had the opportunity to study with Deidre Miles Burger, Parren Ballard, Kathleen Mitchell, Cynthia Drayer, and Margaret Tracy. She has attended summer programs at Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and . She is pursuing an outside field in kinesiology.

Elisabeth Martin (Snow Princess, 12/4 mat. & 12/5), a Bloomington native, started her training in the Indiana University Pre-College Program under Doricha Sales. She then attended the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Mass. to study ballet under Michael Owen, Samuel Kurkjian, and Kathy Kozul. She is in her third year as a ballet major here at Indiana University, studying under Violette Verdy, Michael Vernon, Guoping Wang, Jacques Cesbron, and Virginia Cesbron. Since joining the IU Ballet Theater, she has performed in a variety of ballets including Les Noces, Swan Lake, Rodeo, Serenade, and Rubies. She is also pursuing an outside field in Exercise Science and Mathematics minor. Her summer ballet studies have included Interlochen Arts Camp, Blue Lake Ballet Ensemble, Walnut Hill School, and The Joffery Midwest Workshop programs.

Jordan Martin (Snow Queen, 12/3; Sugar Plum Fairy, 12/4 mat.) of Mount Laurel, N.J., began classical ballet training at the Academy of Ballet in Berlin, N.J., under David Gallagher. During her training, she performed with Ballet New Jersey in Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, and the full-length production of La Bayadère. While with IU Ballet Theater, Martin has been most recently featured as The Cowgirl in Rodeo (2009-2010).

Alex Shipley (Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/4 mat.) is from Tulsa, Okla. At age 4, she began dancing with Moscelyne Larkin, co-founder of Tulsa Ballet, at Jasinski Academy. Her serious dance training began at Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education when it opened in 2003. There she studied mainly under Sarkis Kaltakchian, Melanie Nasser, and Liudmila Polonskaya. She has spent summers training at Tulsa Ballet’s Pointe to the Future, The Harid Conservatory (on partial scholarship), Boston Ballet, and Atlanta Ballet. Jacob Taylor (Snow Cavalier 12/3 & Waltz Pas de Deux 12/3; Cavalier, 12/4 mat.; Arabian, 12/5) is currently a sophomore ballet major at Indiana University. He began his formal ballet training at age 10 in Boulder, Colo., with Boulder Ballet School. Taylor has danced in numerous Boulder Ballet productions, including, An American in Paris, Cinderella, and their annual Nutcracker. Taylor has attended summer intensives at School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Kaatsbaan, , and Perry Mansfield. He was most recently featured as a soloist in Les Noces in Indiana University Ballet Theater’s 2009-2010 season.

Gregory Tyndall (Arabian, 12/3; Snow Cavalier, 12/4 & Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/4 mat.), a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., began ballet training at Pebblebrook High School. He has attended summer programs at The Kirov Academy, The Rock School, Atlanta Ballet, and Nashville Ballet. During the 2009-2010 season, Tyndall danced in IUBT’s production of Les Noces, as the Lead Spanish and Arabian in The Nutcracker, as The Head Wrangler in Rodeo, and in Balanchine’s Rubies.

Laura Whitby (Waltz Pas de Deux, 12/3; Lead Mirliton, 12/4 mat.; Sugar Plum Fairy, 12/4 eve.; Arabian, 12/5), a New Jersey native, received most of her ballet training with Susan Jaffe and Risa Kaplowitz at Princeton Dance and Theater Studio. Upon graduating high school, she trained in the highest level of Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy for the 2007-2008 year and was a member of Houston Ballet II (HBII) for the 2008-2009 year. She performed various principal roles as an HBII member, including the title role in Paquita, lead in Stanton Welch's Fingerprints, and pas de deux in Les Sylphides. She spent summers at ABT NY, Kaatsbaan, Houston Ballet, and Washington Ballet. Most recently, she performed Balanchine's Glinka Pas de Trois as well as the principal role in George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante in IUBT's Fall Ballet. This is Whitby’s second year at Indiana University Ballet Theater.
