St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Aurora AǥǗǥǣǤ 1, 2021 18Ǥǘ SǥǞǔǑǩ ǙǞ OǢǔǙǞǑǢǩ TǙǝǕ Practicing Graciousness in the Desert Looking back over my journey of parenthood, I know there were days when I traveled the extra mile for my children. I made their toast the way they like it, let them play in the park an extra ten minutes, or let them go to the movies with their friends and I finished up the chores on my own. And then, it happened: the attitude. The request for the smallest thing from one of them is met with disdain or bewilderment. Sometimes you can be made breathless with the ingratitude of another person who takes so much and with so little shame, only to scoff at the idea that they, too, give even the smallest amount. But if we’re being honest with ourselves, we will admit that we do the exact same thing to God. Haven’t we all been the Israelites in the desert at one point or another? God has parted our Red Sea in some way. He’s led us out of some great trial, given us some great blessings. But then we run into a little resistance somewhere along the way and we throw up our hands. How could you do this to us, Lord? How could you ask this of us? No, I can’t go any further. No, I won’t do any more. Persisting in the blindness to the many ways God continues to protect us is nothing short of a temper tantrum. It robs our Everyday Stewardship of its graciousness, of our ability to accept with joy the trials of life because we are also constantly aware of its blessings. Refreshments will through the power of the Eucharist to those who are unable be served. to attend Mass. By taking Communion to the sick and home- bound, they represent Christ and manifest faith and charity on behalf of the entire church community. Volunteers who deliver the Holy Eucharist to those who are in need must be current Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion and go through a training session. These ministers live the words of Matthew 25:36 “I was sick and you visited me…”. St. Michael’s is currently in need of additional volunteers to ReMax serve in this important ministry. Robert Eckert 3033690571 Rev. Crispin Kibambe Will be at St. Michael’s 2021 Mission Appeal August 7th & 8th The Mission Appeal for our parish this year is for the Diocese of Kabinda which is located in the heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa. Without water and electricity, and no paved roads, the diocese is cut-off from the world without access by road, river, or rail. Transport of goods by truck can take 2 or 3 days due to horrible road conditions after heavy rains. Because of the poverty, small parishes do not receive even an average of $50 in Sunday offertory. In spite of all the setbacks, the people live miraculously. Currently, over 50% of the area's population of one million people are Catholic. The Church in the DR Congo needs funds to purchase motorcycles for their priests to reach the numerous parish outstations. Many priests must walk to villages up to 25 to 40 miles away to administer sacraments and celebrate the Eucharist. We invite you to help in serving the less fortunate in the DR Congo who may recognize God's love in your generosity. Please keep the Diocese of Kabinda in your prayers and thank you for your generosity. Donations made by check should be made payable to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. Motorcycles previously purchased for the priests in the diocese, are in use and were received with great enthusiasm. The Priests must travel over nearly impassible roads to reach mission stations, and even more motorbikes are needed. The Kabinda Diocese is home to over half a million Catholics in 30 parishes served by 65 priests in a very rural region of the DR Congo. Coming to St. Michael’s This August Saint Pio was born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy, on May 25, 1887. He entered the Capuchin order at age 15 and was ordained a priest in 1910 at the age of 23. During his lifetime, Padre Pio was known for his miraculous powers of healing and knowledge. He bore the stigmata, wounds that correspond to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. Padre Pio dedicated much of his priesthood to hearing confessions, and people traveled from around the world to see him. Pope John Paul II canonized the Saint in 2002. Stigmata of Love A program with Relics of the Padre Pio is a onehour presentation provided by the Apostolate for Holy Relics (AHR) This program allows the faithful to engage in a unique meditation on the life and legacy of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, while highlighting two of his holy relics along with the relic of the True Cross. The presentation is supported with music and meditation and culminates in veneration for each of the relics. The relics of Saint Pio available for public veneration at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish will include: A piece of the True Cross which was discovered by St. Helena • A bloody cloth used to absorb the blood from the wound in Padre Pio’s side • Hair collected from Padre Pio’s beard trimmings More information about St. Pio can be found athttp://www.saintpiofoundation.org.The Saint Pio Foundation promotes awareness of St. Pio and his mission by working with institutions and individuals who share the same vision to serve “those in need of relief of suffering.” This event is sponsored by St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus!
