If you are registered on the State electoral role with Beverley as your place of residence you will be entitled to vote in the forthcoming Local Government elections for this Shire. A ratepayer with their place of residence elsewhere will need to be registered with the Shire to vote. Beverley Ward Boundaries Notice was provided to Council that the removal of Ward Boundaries in the Shire of Beverley was advertised in the Government Gazette in February 2015. Electors are now able to vote for all nominees following the removal of Ward Boundaries. Rubbish along road to Refuse Site An increasing incidence of rubbish falling off vehicles in transit to the Refuse site on Nicholas Rd is disappointing. Please ensure your loads are secured (which is legally required anyway), and if you have an incident and lose some rubbish then be respectful of others and pick it up. Graeme is doing a fantastic job at the refuse site on behalf of the Shire and community and we all need to do our bit too. Beside those going to the rubbish dump this road is also used by locals who live in the vicinity and members and visitors to the Rifle Club, Motorcross and BORMSA. It is becoming one of the busiest roads in the Shire, and yes it is in Council’s 10 year road programme to be improved sooner rather than later! Town Hall Roof Tenders for replacement of the Town Hall roof came in over budget and Council has resolved not to accept any tenders. This project will be reassessed as part of the 15/16 budgetary process. Beverley Times goes to Trove In recent years the Beverley Times was digitized and accessible from a computer in the Town library. Thanks to the diligence of staff member Gail Moulton work is now underway for the Beverley Times to be available on the National Library database known as “Trove” where it will be available for anyone in the world researching Beverley history. This should be completed by the end of the year. RV Friendly Status – Your feedback invited Council is seeking feedback from local business and community members regarding a proposal for Beverley to become an “RV Friendly Town”. There is a set of minimum requirements for this to occur including potable water, dump site, town parking, designated short and long term parking, visitor centre, fuel station, medical facilities and shopping. Tourism Steering Committee A Tourism Steering Committee is being established to investigate tourism as an economic development opportunity for Beverley and possible development of a Tourism Planning Framework. Terms of Reference have been established and the first meeting is scheduled for April. It is anticipated there will be several opportunities for community engagement and feedback during the process. UWA Student Visit The Shire, CRC and Community recently hosted a “snapshot visit” to Beverley and Avondale for 57 students from UWA’s School of Population Health who are studying Social Service and Social Policy. They had commenced a desktop analysis of Beverley prior to visiting and were interested to learn about various aspects which included agriculture, industry and business, Local Government, CRC, health, education, indigenous, community organisations and other services. Students were encouraged to consider tourism as part of their community profiling. It will be interesting to view Beverley through their eyes when they revisit in May. Beverley Sunsmart Triathlon Congratulations to everyone involved with the very successful Beverley Sunsmart Triathlon. Samantha Fricker, Gemma Ridgway, Kelly Mann and Brad Miller as the organizing committee oversaw a well prepared and professionally run event which attracted around 135 entrants (and lots of supporters) including locals and visitors. There were many “first timers” and it was a great opportunity for the younger members of the community to participate in something new. Easter in Beverley Easter in Beverley is a busy time with many familiar and new faces visiting for the various annual activities and events. The flier “What’s on in Beverley at Easter” prepared by the CRC and distributed by Avon Tourism at the Caravan Camping Show usually brings in some fresh faces too. Hope all goes well over the break for everyone. Dee Ridgway Shire President www.beverley.wa.gov.au Beverley Blarney, Edition 366 – April 2015 3 4 Beverley Blarney, Edition 366 – April 2015 www.beverley.wa.gov.au Proposal to become an RV Friendly Town The Shire of Beverley is considering submitting an assessment to become recognised as an RV Friendly Town, but would first like to investigate if this is something the community and local business welcome and support. The RV Friendly Town program is a CMCA program aimed at assisting recreational vehicle consumers as they journey throughout Australia. This includes motorhomes, campervans and caravans. It is expected when they enter a town displaying the RV Friendly Town sign they know they will be welcome with certain services available to them. To become an RV Friendly Town, certain criteria must be met: 1. Provision of appropriate parking within the town centre with access to a general shopping area with groceries or fresh produce. 2. Provision of low cost, short term RV parking for self contained vehicles as close as possible to the CBD. 3. Access to potable water 4. Access to a free dump point at an appropriate location. The Shire proposes to allocate Apex Park (corner of Lukin and Vincent Streets) as the short term parking and in town parking for shopping as it is less than a 1km walk. To learn more about the CMCA an RV Friendly Town’s please visit their website: www.cmca.net.au Public comment is welcomed, and a feedback form is available from the Shire Office.
