Scr3 Int.Pdf 1 STATE OF OKLAHOMA 2 1st Session of the 53rd Legislature (2011) 3 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 3 By: Sparks and Nichols of the 4 Senate 5 and 6 Virgin, Martin (Scott) and Stiles of the House 7 8 9 AS INTRODUCED 10 A Concurrent Resolution congratulating the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team and Coach Bob 11 Stoops for an outstanding 2010 football season; and directing distribution. 12 13 14 WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team, under 15 Coach Bob Stoops, won the Big 12 Championship for the seventh time 16 in the last eleven years, and won the 40th Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in a 17 48-20 victory over Connecticut; and 18 WHEREAS, the Sooners won ten or more games per season for an 19 NCAA record thirty-two times and the Sooners became only the seventh 20 program in college football history to win 800 games; and 21 WHEREAS, the Sooners extended the nation’s longest-active-home 22 winning streak to thirty-six games; and 23 24 Req. No. 1459 Page 1 1 WHEREAS, the Sooners produced two consensus All-Americans in 2 Ryan Broyles and Quinton Carter to run the school’s all-time total 3 to 152; and 4 WHEREAS, the Sooners produced the Sammy Baugh Award winner in 5 Landry Jones; and 6 WHEREAS, Quinton Carter won the Wooden Citizenship Cup and is 7 one of the eleven players named to the American Football Coaches 8 Association Good Works Team; and 9 WHEREAS, the Sooners produced an Academic All-American in Brian 10 Lepak. 11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 1ST SESSION 12 OF THE 53RD OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 13 CONCURRING THEREIN: 14 THAT the Oklahoma Legislature congratulates the Oklahoma Sooners 15 football team and Coach Bob Stoops upon their outstanding 2010 16 season and recognizes their Big 12 Conference Championship and their 17 win in the 40th Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. 18 THAT the Oklahoma State Legislature recognizes the talents of 19 the players who make up this winning team. 20 THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to President David 21 Boren of the University of Oklahoma, Coach Bob Stoops, and members 22 of the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team. 23 24 53-1-1459 JT 2/4/2011 1:39:11 PM Req. The Walter Camp Coach of the Year is selected by the nation’s 125 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. Cutcliffe is the first Duke coach to receive the award, and the first honoree from the ACC since 2001 (Ralph Friedgen, Maryland). Under Cutcliffe’s direction, the 20th-ranked Blue Devils have set a school record with 10 victories and earned their first-ever berth in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game. Duke clinched the Coastal Division title and championship game berth with a 27-25 victory over in-state rival North Carolina on November 30. Duke (10-2, 6-2 in the Coastal Division) will face top-ranked Florida State (12-0) on Saturday, December 7 in Charlotte, N.C. The Blue Devils enter the game with an eight-game winning streak – the program’s longest since 1941. In addition, the Blue Devils cracked the BCS standings for the first time this season, and were a perfect 4-0 in the month of November (after going 1-19 in the month from 2008 to 2012). Cutcliffe was hired as Duke’s 21st coach on December 15, 2007. Last season, he led the high- scoring Blue Devils to a school record 410 points (31.5 points per game) and a berth in the Belk Bowl – the program’s first bowl appearance since 1994.
