    March 7, 2019 Zagreb, CRO Pulkinen (USA), Kostiukovich/Ialin (RUS) lead after first day of World Junior Championships Camden Pulkinen (USA) and Polina Kostiukovich/Dmitrii Ialin (RUS) lead in the Junior Men’s and Junior Pairs events respectively after their Short Programs as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships opened Wednesday in Zagreb, Croatia. A total of 180 skaters from 44 ISU members have been entered for the Championships: 38 Men, 46 Ladies, 17 Pair Skating couples and 31 Ice Dance couples. Pulkinen (USA) wins competitive Junior Men’s Short Program Camden Pulkinen (USA) took the lead in a very competitive Junior Men’s Short Program as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships opened in Zagreb (CRO) on Wednesday. Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) placed second followed by Italy’s Daniel Grassl. The top 10 skaters are separated by just over five points and a lot can happen in the Free Skating on Thursday. Skating to “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla, Pulkinen produced a triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination and triple flip as well as two level-four spins and footwork to set a new season's best of 82.41 points. “I’m very happy about the result and how I skated,” the 18-year-old said. “I know there was a little mistake with the [flying camel] spin on levels, so I could have been even better than I was today. The competition was fantastic. A lot of people skated clean programs and I am very happy that I was able to end up on top today and I’m looking forward to the free skating.” Hiwatashi’s performance to “Cry Me a River” by Arthur Hamilton featured a triple Axel, triple flip and triple Lutz-triple toe.

    August 16, 2018 Lausanne, Switzerland Post-Olympic season kicks off with the ISU Junior Grand Prix With only 6 days to go, the post-Olympic season will start on August 23 with the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2018/19. Talented young Skaters aged 13 to 19 (21 for the male Ice Dance and Pair Skating partners) from all over the world will compete at an international level. Some Skaters will become the stars of tomorrow, others aim to gain valuable experience but all Skaters want to share their passion for Figure Skating. The 2018/19 season marks the 22nd edition of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating that was introduced in 1997. Overview of the events The series consists of seven events and starts August 23-25 in Bratislava (SVK), followed by Linz (AUT) August 29-September 1, Kaunas (LTU) September 5-8, Richmond (CAN) September 12-15, Ostrava (CZE) September 26-29, Ljubljana (SLO) October 3-6 and concludes in Yerevan (ARM) October 10-13. The events in Bratislava, Linz, Richmond and Ostrava include Pair Skating. Armenia and Lithuania will host an ISU Junior Grand Prix event for the first time. The best six Skaters / Couples in each discipline qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series in Vancouver (CAN), December 6-9, 2018. Skaters earn points according to their placements in order to qualify for the Final. Several top Junior Skaters return to the circuit this season including World Junior Champion Alexandra Trusova (RUS) and World Junior silver medalist Alena Kostornaia (RUS).

The city will host this event for the fifth time after doing so in 2001, 2008, 2009 and 2014. 186 skaters from 45 ISU members have been entered for the Championships, 49 Men, 45 Ladies, 17 Pairs and 28 Ice Dance couples. All skaters compete in the Short Program/Short Dance and the top 24 single skaters, top 16 Pairs and top 20 Ice Dance teams proceed to the Free Skating/Free Dance. Overview of the top contenders The Junior Men’s event looks highly competitive with ISU Grand Prix Final Champion Alexei Krasnozhon (USA) and medalists Camden Pulkinen (USA) and Mitsuko Sumoto (JPN). Krasnozhon has a season’s best of 236.35 points, while Pulkinen has 217.10 and Sumoto has 214.45 points. Alexey Erokhov (RUS) wants to improve on his fifth place finish at the Junior Grand Prix Final (season’s best 232.79). The World Junior bronze medalist in 2016, Tomoko Hiwatashi (USA) returns to the event for another shot at the podium. All 2017 medalists have moved up to the senior level. A total of 36 skaters/couples from seven ISU members have qualified during the seven events of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series in Bratislava (SVK), Linz (AUT), Kaunas (LTU), Richmond (CAN), Ostrava (CZE), Ljubljana (SLO) and Yerevan (ARM).
