Laura made landfall in Cameron, Louisiana, early Aug. 27 as a catastrophic Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. The eye wall, which brings the most damaging winds and intense rainfall, passed directly over Lake Charles causing widespread damage to that area and our system. It continued as a Category 2 hurricane, still maintaining nearly 110 mph sustained winds, as it moved inland and northward across our service territory. 3 UNPRECEDENTED DAMAGE Hurricane Laura Transmission Line Damage Comparison 2,000 Major Hurricanes (2005 – present) 96% of all structures destroyed by Laura 1,600 were in three southwest Louisiana 1,200 parishes 800 400 ~25% of all existing transmission 0 structures in Calcasieu parish (greater Laura Rita Katrina Ike Gustav Delta Zeta Easter Isaac Harvey (2020) (2005) (2005) (2008) (2008) (2020) (2020) Storm (2012) (2017) Lake Charles, LA area) were either (2020) destroyed or sustained damage by Transmission Structures Destroyed Transmission Structures Damaged Hurricane Laura 4.
