Prof. M.S.Swaminathan to receive Indira Gandhi National Integration Award 11 October 2013 | News | By Bureau Report Prof M S Swaminathan, Chairman M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, who is also chairing the Coalition for Sustainable Nutrition Security in India (the Nutrition Coalition) and former president of Nutrition Society of India (NSI) will be conferred the Indira Gandhi National Integration Award for the year 2012. The Award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress party and also the chairperson of the award committee will present the award to M S Swaminathan, known as the father of Green Revolution, at a function on October 31, the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi, said Motilal Vora, member secretary of the award committee. A plant geneticist by training, Prof Swaminathan’s contributions to the agricultural renaissance of India have led to his being widely referred to as the scientific leader of the ever green revolution movement. His advocacy of sustainable agriculture leading to a ever green revolution makes him an acknowledged world leader in the field of sustainable food security. The International Association of Women and Development conferred on him the first international award for significant contributions to promoting the knowledge, skill, and technological empowerment of women in agriculture, and for his pioneering role in mainstreaming gender considerations in agriculture and rural development. Prof Swaminathan was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1971, the Albert Einstein World Science Award in 1986, the first World Food Prize in 1987, and Volvo and Tyler Prize for Environment, the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development in 2000 and the Franklin D Roosevelt Four Freedoms Medal, the Mahatma Gandhi Prize of UNESCO in 2000 and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award (2007)..

The study in general tries to comprehend regional awareness and consciousness in its content and form in the Indian sub-continent, with a special study of coalition politics in UP., which of late has presented a picture of chaos, conflict and crise-cross, syndrome of democracy. Regionalism is a manifestation of socio-economic and cultural forces in a large setup. It is a psychic phenomenon where a particular part faces a psyche of relative deprivation. It also involves a quest for identity projecting one's own language, religion and culture. In the economic context, it is a search for an intermediate control system between the centre and the peripheries for gains in the national arena. The study begins with the analysis of conceptual aspect of regionalism in India. It also traces its historical roots and examine the role played by Indian National Congress. The phenomenon of regionalism is a pre-independence problem which has got many manifestation after independence. It is also asserted that regionalism is a complex amalgam of geo-cultural, economic, historical and psychic factors.

Cybersecurity and Threats Cyberterrorism and the Order Today Rebant Juyal* The ever-growing dependence of man on cybernetworks has unbridled a modish genre of cyberthreat called cyberterrorism. The pervasive cyberspace has provided an advantageous operational frontier to the terrorists for executing cyberattacks on critical infrastructures, spreading hate propaganda over the Internet and using it for recruitment, planning and effecting terror attacks. Furthermore, it has proliferated terror configurations and metamorphosed terror operations. There is the most urgent need to secure our cyberspace from such formidable cyberthreats. Formulating a cybersecurity strategy through international cooperation is a desideratum to confront mushrooming cyberterrorism which poses a severe threat to global security and current economic scenario. This article examines cyberterrorism as a component of cyberthreats and further analyses the constitutional obligation of the state to protect cyberspace. National Herald Case Why in news? The Delhi High Court recently dismissed pleas by Congress leaders against the Income Tax department’s decision to reopen their tax assessments for the year 2011-12. National Herald Newspaper It was established by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. It was published by The Associated Journals Limited, a “Section 25” company, which is generally a not-for-profit entity. AJL also published the Qaumi Awaz in Urdu and Navjeevan in Hindi. The company owns prime real estate in various cities, including Delhi and Mumbai worth around Rs.2000 Cr. Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora has been the chairman and managing director of AJL since March 22, 2002. What is the case about? The IT department’s decision is related to the National Herald newspaper case. In 2012 a complaint was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy before the trial court. It was alleged that Congress leaders were involved in cheating and breach of trust in the acquisition of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) by Young Indian Pvt Ltd (YIL), as assets worth crores of rupees had been transferred to YIL. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi are its board of director. Congress treasurer Motilal Vora and general secretary Oscar Fernandes were also named in the case. What happened? AJL ran into losses by overstaffing and a lack of revenue and stopped publishing in April 2008. The Congress party gave the company unsecured, interest-free loans for a few years up to 2010 to keep it afloat. On 2010, a new company called Young Indian Pvt Ltd (YIL) was incorporated as a Section 25 company.
