Haley, Ed.D. 710 Encinitas Boulevard, Encinitas, CA 92024 Office of the Superintendent Telephone (760) 753-6491 www.sduhsd.net FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: January 16, 2020 SUBJECT: SDUHSD 2020-2021 HIGH SCHOOL SELECTION WINDOW TO OPEN ON FEBRUARY 13, 2020 ENCINITAS - The San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) High School Selection window for the 2020-2021 school year will open on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 8:00 AM and will close on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 4:00 PM. Who should submit a high school selection during the window? 1. Students currently attending SDUHSD District schools ● Grade 8 - All SDUHSD 8th grade students currently residing in the district must select a high school that they wish to attend in the fall of 2020. ● Grades 9-11 - SDUHSD students currently attending a district high school who wish to change high schools must also make a selection. SDUHSD high school students who do not wish to change and will remain at their current high schools for fall 2020 do not need to make any selections during high school selection and will automatically be re- enrolled in their current school. 2. Students who reside within District boundaries but do not currently attend SDUHSD schools ● Grades 8-11 students who reside within SDUHSD boundaries but who do not currently attend SDUHSD schools, including private and Rancho Santa Fe schools, must make a selection if they plan to attend a SDUHSD high school in the fall of 2020. Students must currently reside within SDUHSD district boundaries to participate in high school selection. Parents and students seeking additional information about each high school are invited to attend individual high school information nights. Important dates and information sessions are listed below: ● Canyon Crest Academy Monday, February 10, 2020 6:00 pm ● La Costa Canyon Tuesday, February 11, 2020 6:00 pm ● San Dieguito Academy Wednesday, February 12, 2020 6:00 pm ● Sunset Thursday, February 13, 2020 6:00 pm ● Torrey Pines Wednesday, February 5, 2020 6:00 pm ● Lottery (If Necessary) Wednesday, March 11, 2020 TBD Canyon Crest Academy • Carmel Valley MS • Diegueño MS • Earl Warren MS • La Costa Canyon HS Oak Crest MS • Pacific Trails MS • San Dieguito HS Academy • Sunset HS • Torrey Pines HS Each high school information night will begin promptly. Families are encouraged to arrive early to avoid potential traffic or parking issues. It is the intent of the Board of Trustees to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students of the district. In order to maintain an equitable balance in the enrollment at each campus, the Board of Trustees established attendance boundaries for each school in SDUHSD. Boundaries of school attendance areas in the district are as follows: 1. La Costa Canyon High School shall include the boundaries of the Encinitas and Cardiff school districts and the area north of Escondido Creek in Rancho Santa Fe district. 2. San Dieguito High School Academy and Canyon Crest Academy shall be open to all district residents in grades 9-12 on an equal basis through an open enrollment application process approved by the Board of Trustees. To be eligible to attend SDHSA or CCA, a student must have selected the school during the established high school selection window process. 3. Torrey Pines High School shall include the boundaries of the Del Mar, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe School Districts, with the exception of the area north of Escondido Creek in the Rancho Santa Fe School District. The San Dieguito Union High School District serves 7th through 12th grade students in the communities of Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Cardiff, Rancho Santa Fe and surrounding areas.     San Dieguito Union High School District High School Selection AR 5116.1 Students Selection Procedures Each year, the online high school selection filing period begins in February at 8:00 am on the first date and closes in March on the last date of the yearly established window at 4:00 pm. Students may not switch school choices after the application deadline and no applications will be accepted for the non-boundary schools, SDHSA/CCA, after the deadline. If necessary, a public lottery will be held after the filing period and prior to the enrollment deadline. Students who are selected to attend the non-boundary schools, SDHSA/CCA, are required to register by the enrollment deadline in March. Students who fail to enroll by the March enrollment deadline will lose their position at SDHSA or CCA. There will be no exceptions. Students New to the District/Living Within SDUHSD Boundaries All grade 8–11 students living within the SDUHSD boundaries, who are currently enrolled in private schools or will be new to enrolling in the district, must declare which high school they wish to attend in fall of the following year by submitting their high school selection online during the filing period beginning in February at 8:00 am on the first date and closes in March on the last date of the window at 4:00 pm.
