Performance dates for "Dames at Sea" (musical) are Oct. 24-28, and Nov. 14-18 for "A Doll's House." Those auditioning are asked to prepare the following audition material: * 16 bars from a song (preferably from a musical). Select audition piece from high point of the song. Our rehearsal pianist will accompany all candidates. * One to one-and-a-half-minute monologue from realistic play (comedy or drama). * Dress for a professional audition/interview. Call back lists will be posted on Burtness and Chandler Hall front doors by 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. "A Doll’s House" callbacks will be in the Burtness Lab Theatre. -- Kathleen McLennan, Chair, Theatre Arts, [email protected], 701-777-2871 BACK TO TOP Note traffic, parking changes Aug. 18-21 As we welcome new and returning students to the campus, there will be some minor traffic flow changes implemented on campus Friday, Aug.18. The changes will remain in effect through Monday August 21. This is being done to ease the confusion and congestion often experienced with the residence hall opening. For those students and families moving into the residence halls, this information has been comunicated, and maps provided. Please be aware that a few things will be different during this period. It is important that you plan your routes prior to driving, even though you are already familiar with campus. These changes have been implemented due to the significant impact construction is currently having on campus roads and parking areas. Please plan for the following traffic changes: In the Wilkerson Complex area: * There will be no left turn from southward Stanford Road onto eastbound University Avenue. * There will be no left turn from lot 18 (parking north of the complex) onto southbound Stanford Road. * Areas have been designated for trucks/trailers/RV's. * Street parking will be allowed on Stanford Road and University Ave. * No double parking on streets. * Additional parking areas have been identified. In the Johnstone/Fulton/Smith Complex area: * Areas have been designated for trucks/trailers/RV's. * Street parking allowed on University Avenue. * No double parking on streets. * Additional parking areas have been identified. In the Walsh Complex area: * Fifth Avenue North will be converted to a one-way eastbound, from Princeton Street to Harvard Street. * Street parking is allowed on both sides of area streets. * No double parking on streets. * Areas have been designated for trucks/trailers/RV's. * Additional parking areas have been identified. In the Swanson Hall area: * Cornell Street in front of Swanson Hall will likely not be open for persons moving into Swanson Hall. It is predicted to be open shortly after opening weekend. When it does open, it will remain one-way southbound from University Avenue to Second Avenue. * Second Avenue is scheduled to be open for the Aug. 18 move-in, providing good weather and no construction delays. Once open, it will remain one-way eastbound from Cornell Street to Columbia Road. * Cargo drop-off areas will be located on University Avenue near the Cornell Street intersection, and potentially on a portion of Cornell Street itself. * If a portion of Cornell Street is used as a cargo drop-off area despite the road being closed, no left turn will be https://apps.und.edu/uletterarchive/uletter.php?backID=218[7/10/2019 4:52:51 PM] The University of North Dakota | University Letter allowed from Cornell Street onto westbound University Avenue. * Short term parking will be allowed on University Avenue, Memorial Union loop, Cornell Street west of Hyslop. * No double parking on streets. * Areas have been designated for trucks/trailers/RV's. * Additional parking areas have been identified. BACK TO TOP Doctoral examination set for Mohamad Hamad The final examination for Mohamad Hamad, a candidate for the Ph.D. degree with a major in Microbiology, is set for 1 p.m., Aug. 21, in Reed Keller 1350, Ed James Research, School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The dissertation title is "The Roles of LCRG and LCRV in the Secretion Control of Yops in Yersinia Pestis." Matthew Nilles (Microbiology) is the committee chair.     Theodore B. Wells and the firm of Wells-Denbrook Architects in North Dakota; 1923-1978 historic context study prepared by Steve C. Martens; Architect Architectural Historian (August 29, 2015 Revised Final version with GF HPC comments and State Review Board comments addressed) for the Grand Forks Historic Preservation Commission and the State Historic Preservation Office, State Historical Society of North Dakota Executive summary/Abstract: Theodore B. (Burfield) Wells had established his architectural practice in Grand Forks by 1923. He was joined in practice soon after World War II by Myron Denbrook. In approximately 1949, Denbrook was offered a full partnership. The firm completed extensive work throughout the Upper Red River Valley and in northeastern North Dakota. To a lesser extent, their work is found throughout North Dakota and in the northwestern corner of Minnesota. Wells retired from active practice in about 1964 and Denbrook associated briefly with Edward Adams at about that time. This context focuses on North Dakota work designed by the firm of Theodore B. Wells and later as Wells-Denbrook, from the firm’s inception until Wells, Denbrook, Adams, Wagner Architects merged to form EAPC (engineers and architects) in 1978.   • Capital Campaign: a Case for Support
    Capital Campaign: A Case for Support www.gfparks.org/legendsandheroes.htm Overview Grand Forks has a critical shortage of indoor ice for their boys and girls youth hockey and figure skating programs. We are attempting to alleviate these issues by constructing two new ice sheets on the campus of the fantastic new Choice Health and Fitness. This facility will provide Grand Forks area residents with the ice time needed to properly implement important youth wellness activities while at the same time providing an economic benefit to Greater Grand Forks. These ice sheets will allow Grand Forks to host figure skating competitions and youth hockey tournaments throughout the season. As set out later in this Campaign over-view, these week-end tournaments will provide significant economic impact to the business community. The tournaments and competitions generate substantial revenue for the programs that rely on the facilities on an annual basis. In addition, local hockey and figure skating families will save, because they will be able to reduce their travel, stay home, and participate in many of these locally sponsored events. The Plan A tremendous amount of financial resources are spent each season on travel to other communities in order to provide our youth experiences that could be offered here at home. The Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Foundation Board wants to encourage members of the local Grand Forks hockey and figure skating family to quickly “turn the tables.”This building project will afford our youth the opportunity to participate in various skill and age appropriate tournaments here in Grand Forks. Your financial generosity and pledges made over the next three to five years, will allow the Grand Forks Park District and Blue Line Club to construct an arena which will house two sheets of ice conducive to hosting skating competitions and hockey tournaments.
