Good condition Est. £40 - 50 LOT299a - Reggie Kray and Pete Gillett signed record. Unusual vinyl record, autographed on the sleeve by notorious gangster Reggie Kray (1933 - 2000). This is the song "I Began to Notice" which was written and performed by Reggie Kray and Pete Gillett who did time with Reggie at Parkhurst. Autographed clearly by Reggie Kray who has added God Bless and the date 1991. Also autographed by Pete Gillett. An incredibly rare item. Excellent condition. Est £100 - £150 LOT299b - The Krays, Ronnie and Reggie Kray signed print. Extremely rare 24 x 24 inch limited edition artist's proof print entitled R v Kray & ors that has been hand signed by the notorious Kray twins - Ronnie and Reggie. The print shows courtroom sketches of everyone involved in the famous court case in the 1960s. Everyone including the Krays themselves, judges, solicitors, barristers, witnesses, informers, officers & agents plus many more. The print originally created by I.L (initials) a courtroom artist has dated the print 04.03.69. Ron Kray and Reg Kray have autographed the print next to their image extremely clear in blue biro. The autographs on the prints were originally obtained by Charlie Kray while the twins were incarcerated and then passed on to friend Steve Tully, later passed on to former inmate Pete Gillett. A limited edition of 100. Excellent condition. Est £150 - £200 LOT299c - Joe Calzaghe autographed Lonsdale boxing glove. Genuine 140 oz Lonsdale boxing glove autographed by boxing legend Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe retired in 2009 as WBO Super-Middleweight Champion. He has added a 46 - 0 to his autograph, his record of 46 fights and no losses!! Superb item. Excellent condition. Project Front Foot UK & Europe Kit Collections As if to mirror these unprecedented times, our late September kit collections were like no other: we hired vans from behind masks, bought sandwiches and diesel from behind masks, bumped fists and elbows instead of handshakes and hugs, and socially distanced as required of White Van Man. There was a degree of urgency, too, for with spring turning into summer turning into autumn we needed to get the kit collected. Newport saw the start of our scheduled collections in early September. This was followed later in the month with visits to Newcastle, Knaresborough, Brighouse, Lincoln, Leeds, Manchester, Mansfield and finally Newark. By the time we returned to basecamp in Berkshire the mileage chart read 1600 miles with some three thousand items of clothing and equipment collected. Sort & Pack XII The day following our return to Berkshire we set about sorting and packing. The task took three days before the final shirt was packed and bag zipped.

    CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

    Leg Before Wicket Douglas Miller starts to look at the most controversial form of dismissal Of the 40 wickets that fell in the match between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan at Cheltenham that ended on 1st August 2010 as many as 18 of the victims were dismissed lbw. Was this, I wondered, a possible world record? Asking Philip Bailey to interrogate the files of Cricket Archive, I discovered that it was not: back in 1953/54 a match between Patiala and Delhi had seen 19 batsmen lose their wickets in this way. However, until the start of the 2010 season the record in English first-class cricket had stood at 17, but, barely credibly, Cheltenham had provided the third instance of a match with 18 lbws in the course of the summer. Gloucestershire had already been involved in one of these, against Sussex at Bristol, while the third occasion was the Sussex-Middlesex match at Hove. Was this startling statistic for 2010 an indication that leg before decisions are more freely given nowadays? It seemed to correlate with an impression that modern technology has given umpires a better feel for when a ball is likely to hit the wicket and that the days when batsmen could push forward and feel safe were now over. I determined to dig deeper and examine trends over time. This article confines itself to matches played in the County Championship since World War I. I propose looking at Tests in a future issue. The table below shows how the incidence of lbw dismissals has fluctuated over time.

Watching New Zealand lose early wickets in their second Test against Australia and seeing the talented Kane Williamson inching to just three runs in over sixty deliveries was a painful experience until the world turned upside down. Having been beaten comprehensively by his first ball, Brendon McCullum sliced the next ball over the slips for four and then began to construct something of true wonder. With most bowlers going for barely one an over, Mitchell Marsh entered the attack and jaw-droppingly, saw his first over go for twenty one runs.

The price will be £1 more than last year, ie £31 for those HCS members and guests who are also members of Hampshire CCC and £36 for those HCS members and guests who are not members of HCCC. Application forms will be sent via email or by post (in accordance with how members normally receive their Newsletter) after the Society’s final winter meeting on 29 March. MEETINGS Wednesday 1 March 2017 – Meeting The Society warmly welcomes Tony Borrington to this evening’s meeting. He comes highly recommended by other Cricket Societies. ANTHONY JOHN BORRINGTON was born in Derby on 8 December 1948. Educated at Spondon Park Grammar School, he was an outstanding school boy batsman who scored heavily in club cricket. He progressed to the county side through the junior, club and ground, and second eleven sides. He also played for the MCC Schools at Lord’s in 1967. He was an aggressive right-handed batsman and an athletic fielder. After playing in one Sunday League match in 1970, he first played for Derbyshire in 1971 and was capped in 1977. He continued to play for Derbyshire until 1981, scoring 4,230 runs. The highest of his three centuries was a notable 137 against Yorkshire at Sheffield in 1978.

Kent County Cricketers A to Z Part Two 1919 to 1939 Introduction Part Two of the Kent A to Z covers the 92 cricketers who made their entry into first-class cricket for Kent between the wars. With 12 Championship titles, 330 wins and only 49 defeats, Yorkshire dominated throughout the two decades, but Kent could reasonably claim to be the most successful of the Southern counties, twice ending runners-up and in only three seasons failing to finish in the top half of the table. During those inter-war years, cricket was becoming increasingly professional. Of the names listed in the county averages in the 1921 Wisden, over 57% were amateurs. By 1931 the figure had fallen to 41%; and in the last pre-war season it was down to 33%. Kent, in common with one or two other counties, fought hard against the prevailing trend. Throughout the period, they stuck to their long- established policy of endeavouring to field a minimum of three amateurs in every match. In practice, they were quite frequently unable to do so, especially early in the season but, of the 92 cricketers listed in the following pages, 60, i.e. over 65%, were, in the idiom of the time, ‘Gentlemen’.
