Its purose was to construct, operate and maintain a sewage collection system. The Petition was fied in response to a request by the residents of the area for improved sewage disposal facilities. The construction of the first sewers in 1960 was in the northern area of Shoreline around Echo Lake. This area served into the Mountlake Terrace sewage system for delivery to the Edmonds Treatment Plant. The creation and expansion of the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle permitted the District to expand its service area, so that by 1991 it served almost the entire northwest comer of King County, from Puget Sound on the west to the westerly city limits of the City of Lake Forest Park on the east, and from the Snohomish-King County line on the north to 145th Street on the south. It presently consists of 18 Utilty Local Improvement Districts plus the area formerly served by Kig County Sewage & Drainage District #3, and the City of Seattle, through the Lake City Sewer District system. It presently serves an area of - approximately 6,400 acres with approximately 40,000 residents. The District, now known as Shoreline Wastewater Management District, is presently negotiating with the City of Seattle to serve that part of the Lake City Sewer District lying north of 145th Street, the Seattle City north boundary. The Distrct was originally named after Judge James Theodore Ronald, a King County lawyer who served the community as Deputy Prosecutor for King, Kitsap and Snohomish Counties, was elected State Attorney General, and then a Superior Court Judge from 1910 to 1949. He died at 95 years of age in 1950. In July, 1991, the District adopted Resolution 91-50 and officially changed its name to Shoreline Wastewater Management District. At approximately the same time King County Water District #42 changed its name to Shoreline Page 1 of3 Resolution 00-40 Water District. i 3 96 7 ~ On August 31, 1995 the City of Shoreline completed its incorporation process. The use of the name "Shoreline" for the new city has created confusion with Shoreline Water District, Shoreline Wastewater Management District and other entities, both public (lnd private, which use the word "Shoreline" in their names. The Board of Commissioners of Shoreline Wastewater Management District, after due deliberation and consideration of more descriptive names for the District, that wil not be confused with the City of Shoreline and the services it provides, has determined that the name of the District shall be changed from Shoreline Wastewater Management District tö "Ronald Wastewater Districf'. Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Shoreline Wastewater Management District that the name of the District shall be changed from "Shoreline Wastewater Management District" to " Ronald Wastewater District" effective Januar 1, 2001, subject to the prior approval of the legislative authority of King County, Washington. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution shall be immediately submitted to the King County Council for action in accordance with the -provisions of RCW 57.04.065 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Manager of Shoreline Wastewater Management District is authorized and directed to immediately proceed to implement this Resolution so that the formal change of name can be completed by January 1,2001. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Shoreline Wastewater Management District that upon approval of the King County Council or the effective date of January 1,2001, whichever later occurs, all of the existing Resolutions of the Board of Commissioners of the District are by this Resolution amended and shall be interpreted to read "Ronald Wastewater District" where the words "Ronald Sewer Distrct" or "Shoreline Wastewater Management District" appear in those Resolutions. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Manager of Shoreline Wastewater Management District is authorized to acquire a rubber stamp to be used to imprint the District's new name on copies of previously adopted Resolutions to demonstrate the change of the name of the District as authorized by this Resolution 00-40.
