WOOLSEY FIRE ANNIVERSARY COMMUNITY GATHERING Please join us for a community gathering to mark the anniversary of the Woolsey Fire and honor Malibu’s recovery and resilience on Saturday, , 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Zuma Beach Lot 8. The event will feature a poetry reading by Malibu Poet Laureate Ellen Reich, musical performances by Brandon Jenner and the Malibu High School student choir, personal testimonials from community members, refreshments provided by Bob Morris’ Paradise Cove Beach Cafe and special giveaways for Malibu residents.

HOW TO REACH THE CITY DURING EMERGENCIES The City encourages all community residents to sign up for emergency, traffic, weather and utility alerts through the website e-notification system at MalibuCity.org/News (scroll down to "Alert Center"). You can also get emergency information during a disaster by phone by calling the City’s Hotline at 310-456-9982. During an emergency situation, the Hotline is updated regularly with current information.

ONE CALL TO CITY HALL 310-456-CITY, EXTENSION 311 One Call to City Hall is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for community members to report issues or contact City staff during non-business hours. For life-threatening emergencies, please call 911.

MALIBU REBUILDS - REBUILD COORDINATOR AVAILABLE TO ASSIST WITH POST-WOOLSEY FIRE REBUILD PROJECTS As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to assist property owners whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the Woolsey Fire, a new Building Plan Check coordination service is now offered to applicants. The Rebuild Coordinator is available to meet in person at City Hall to assist property owners and their representatives with securing approvals of building plans from all City Departments and outside agencies after projects have been approved by Planning. The Rebuild Coordinator will also assist in completing all construction permit applications upon approval of building plans. The Rebuild Coordinator is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM to meet with applicants and to make appointments for them to meet one-on-one with City Department specialists. MALIBU REBUILDS – REBUILD CONSULTATIONS The fire rebuild team is available for complimentary one-on-one consultations about any fire rebuild project. MALIBU REBUILDS – HEIGHT SURVEYS New homes under construction will be required to submit a Height Survey Certification at framing inspection in order to verify City-approved heights.

MALIBU VOTERS CAN GIVE THEIR PREFERENCES ON VOTE CENTER LOCATIONS IN DRAFT ELECTION ADMINISTRATION PLAN Malibu voters can share their preferences on the locations for the new Regional Vote Centers that will serve Malibu in future elections. The County has released a Draft Election Administration Plan (EAP) for LA County’s modernized new voting system, Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) for public comment. Malibu location options are Webster Elementary School, Malibu High School, Fire Camp #8 and Malibu Bluffs Park. Submit comments at LAVote.net.

MALIBU HALF-MARATHON AND 5K A temporary use permit has been issued for the 11th Annual Malibu Half Marathon and 5K, a charity event to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu. The two-day event will have a race registration and Fitness Expo and races on in the southernmost parking lot of Zuma Beach. The race event on November 3 starts at 7:00 AM. The route goes along the shoulder of Pacific Coast Highway on the ocean side from Westward Beach Road to Mulholland Highway.

POINT DUME HEADLANDS PARKING GATE AND ALLIGATOR TEETH (TRAFFIC SPIKES) On Monday, the Planning Commission will hear an item to allow for the installation of a gate and alligator teeth to prevent use of the Point Dume Headlands Park parking area between sunset and sunrise, consistent with current parking limits.

LA PAZ DEVELOPMENT On Monday, , the Planning Commission will hear the amendment to the previously approved La Paz project. The amendment includes changes to the layout, landscaping, and design of the buildings that were previously approved by the City.

MALIBU LIBRARY SPEAKER SERIES EVENTS The next Malibu Library Speaker Series event, “Showcase: Local Author Series,” featuring published authors who live and write in Malibu, is on Wednesday, , at Malibu High School, and will feature Jo Giese and Louis Spirito. Giese is an award-winning radio journalist, author, teacher, community activist, and former TV reporter whose book “Never Sit If You Can Dance” is an inspiring tribute to mothers. Spirito was a raging bull and a fiery writer who exploded at the slightest provocation. In his book “Gimmie Shelter,” he recounts how he rescued Tanner, an abused, timid, shelter pit bull who changed his life. On Wednesday, , at Malibu City Hall, the Malibu Library Speaker Series features Winona LaDuke, an author and rural development economist working on issues of economic, food and energy sovereignty. GUARDRAIL REPLACEMENT PROJECT The Guardrail Replacement Project consists of replacement of the guardrails damaged during the Woolsey Fire at various locations within the City. The project will take place through the end of November, Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The installation of the new guardrails will require temporary lane closures. One travel lane will be open at all times.

LA COSTA PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS (CITY PROJECT) This City of Malibu project consisted of installing a hybrid pedestrian traffic signal located adjacent to the La Costa Beach Club on PCH. On Monday, , the contractor completed the installation and the pedestrian signal is now activated. The pedestrian signal uses a beacon type signal. The signal is dark until the signal is activated. When the signal is dark, traffic go through like a green light. When activated, the signal will flash yellow, then steady yellow and lastly steady red. Once the signal is steady red, traffic must stop for pedestrians. The red lights will flash and drivers can proceed if the crosswalk is clear. MALIBU BEACH INN PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS (DEVELOPMENT PROJECT) This privately-funded project consisted of installing a pedestrian traffic signal located adjacent to the Malibu Beach Inn on PCH. On Sunday morning, , the contractor completed the installation of the signal and later that day, the signal was activated.

LEGACY PARK REHABILITATION PROJECT Installation work for 22 native plant restoration plots is scheduled to begin the week of in Legacy Park. The plots will help the City analyze growing conditions in various locations throughout the park. The data collected from each plot will be used to develop a final rehabilitation and plant maintenance plan for long-term care of the park.
