—1.5-- DISTRICT StPERRTENDENT'S REPORT

Greetings, Pilgrims, in this your thirty-sixth Annual Gathering: As I make this, my fourth report as superintendent of the Pilgrim Holiness work in Ohio, I am fully conscious of the fact that it has been the presence and help of the Lord and the faithful cooperation of our ministers, laymen and friends that have enabled me to make the showing that has been made this year. The spirituality of Ohio Pilgrims is manifested by genuine interest in foreign missions. We are missionary at heart, interested in the work both at home and abroad. Home Missionary work holds an important place in the hearts of Ohio Pilgrims and many Home Missionary proj- ects have been undertaken this year. Some are now in progress; others have been organized into churches. The new churches include Sardinia, with 23 members; ahington C. H., 23 members; Arthur, 10 members; Berrysville, 20 members; Grand Rapids, 19 members. Any movement that does not reach the youth is doomed to failure. We have many fine young people in our district, who are lively, loyal, and spiritual, and in quality they cannot be excelled anywhere. Our churches are doing a great work in the Sunday School depart- ment. I believe the records will show that as a district we have made more than 50 per cent gain in Sunday School attendance during the last four years. I believe every department in our district has shown equally good gains. We have a large group of evangelists in our district of whom our entire church and the Holiness Movement may well be proud. All who are in touch with our work throughout the state agree that we are enjoying a spirit of optimism, love and fellowship which is in- deed wholesome. We, too, are enjoying a deepening in spirituality. The true standards of our church are being held where the Bible and founders of our church placed them. Because of the great kindness of our pastors and people, the strenuous labor has been pleasant throughout the year. I made 276 church calls, had 87 Board Meetings, held 36 church meetings, preached 155 times, had 49 seekers, travelled about 25,000 miles. We have received 5 parsonages: at Nelsonville, Hamilton, Liberty, Barberton and Mulberry; also 8 church buildings at Hamilton, Waali- ington C. H., Arthur, Mason, Barberton, Crown City, Grand Rapids, and Rlchwood. My libors and burdens were increased, and the district sullered a great loss, by the passing to our Heavenly home of two of our leading pastors, Rev. F. H. Tormohlen and Rev. D. C. Shearer, also Enimitt Wright. Not one of us can now wisely predict who from our rarks will an- swer the call Home before Assembly time in 1941. I trust we all may be ready. C. P. Pridgen.

IN MEMORIAM

We, as members of the Ohio District of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, which convened at the thirty-sixth Annual Assembly, desire to honor the memory of several who have labored with us, and whose Home- going has left a vacancy in our ranks that is felt by all. Rev. D. C. Shearer, who labored for the past ten years in the Ohio District, serving our church at Nelsonvifie as pastor for six years, also the Marion 1st church four years, went to Heaven February 16, 1940. Before coining to Ohio, Brother Shearer served as District Superin- tendent five years in Indiana, and eleven years in illinois. He was a representative of the Publication Department, the General Board, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Bible Holiness Sem- inary, Owosso, Michigan. During his forty-two years of active service as a Minister of the Gos- pel, he labored untiringly and unselfishly for the cause he loved, and his godly example will be long felt among the Pilgrims. Rev. F. H. Tormohien, a father in Israel, who spent more than fifty —23— t years as a soldier in the Army of the Lord, slipped away to his reward January 21, 1940. He faithfully served in the Ministry both as Evangelist and Pastor, serving pastorates in Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio. For the past sixteen years he was in the Pilgrim Holiness Church, pastoring Greensboro, North Carolina; Mulberry, Bowersville, New Carlisle and Napoleon, Ohio. Brother Tormolilen had a very special interest in young people and was affiliated with Cleveland Bible Institute, God's Bible School, and with Bible Schools in Shacklefords, Vs., and Greensboro, N. C. For the past ten years he was a member of the Educational Board of the Ohio District. He was pastoring the church at Napoleon, Ohio, at the time of his Home-going. His long life of usefulness for God resulted in many converts who today are carrying on the great work, both at home and abroad, the work that he loved so well. Emmet Wright, husband of Mrs. Cleona Wright, one of our Ministers, went to his reward February 7, 1940. Brother Wright was a musician, singer and composer of Gospel songs. He worked faithfully with his wife in the evangelistic field, and his songs have proved a great blessing in the work of the Lord. Rev. H. 0. Cameron, who was a member of the 1st Pilgrim Church at Springfield, passed to his eternal Home on June 1, 1940. He was formerly a minister with the Christian Nation Church, and as- sisted in the first tent meeting held on Sugar Grove Camp Ground. To all the bereaved friends, we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
