ABSTRACT The subject of astrology in the School of Eckankar has two main bases of Karma and reincarnation. Karma or the very law of action and reaction can be called the moral basis of the Eckankar. The totality of this law is accepted by the reason and tradition. But yet what casts doubt and therefore a serious damage to this law would be a tight connection between Karma and Incarnation in the School of Eckankar. This is because the ECK believes that Karma is incarnated through the transmigration, and moves from a birth to another one and this long way is continued up to the constellations. Therefore, in this writing and while explaining the Karma and accepting it in its totality, various typed of incarnation are explained ,and then it will be studied and criticized based on the teachings of Islam. Tertullian presents the adverse condition of the church-state relationship at the end of the second century. He shows the vulnerable situation of the church and the church practitioners under the Pagan emperors. The Apology shows the persecution and its nature Christian had to face. On the other hand, The Death of the persecutors represents the time at the end of the third century when Christianity encountered The Great Persecution. -

Monahan The aim of my thesis is to suggest that the church consider adopting a privative view of evil. St. Augustine’s ontology of evil is the subject of the thesis. Augustine’s views are first explained, and then compared to Plotinus’ view of evil to show that Augustine radically transformed Plotinus’ teaching in light of Scripture. Augustine’s views are then compared to Scripture’s teaching on evil to show that a privative account of evil is consistent with and complimentary to language of Scripture as well as systematic theology. Some fruitful pastoral applications are offered at the end to show that this issue is far more than merely philosophical or abstractly theological. Stallsmith* A Divine Couple: Demeter Malophoros and Zeus Meilichios in Selinus https://doi.org/10.1515/jah-2018-0019 Abstract: This paper concerns a collection of rough-hewn flat stelae excavated from the precinct of Zeus Meilichios in Selinus, Sicily between 1915 and 1926, a majority with two heads or busts, one male and one female, carved at their tops. These crudely fashioned idols are unique in their iconography. They combine the flat inscribed Punic stela with the Greek figural tradition, with some indigenous features. Their meaning is totally obscure – especially since they lack any literary reference. No comparable monuments have been found in ancient Mediterranean cult. The twin stelae were often set up above a collection of burnt rodent and bird bones, ashes, lamps, broken and burnt pottery and terracotta figurines, as a mem- orial of a sacrifice. The stelae were the objects of a gentilicial cult, similar to that posited for the inscribed “Meilichios stones” with which they shared the Field of Stelae of Zeus Meilichios. The theory advanced here interprets these diminutive stelae (average height 30 cm) as the objects of domestic cult. It was customary in many parts of the ancient Mediterranean, from the Bronze Age down to the Ro- man period, to venerate household or family gods who protected the health and the wealth of the family. They were thought to embody the spirits of the ancestors and could at times be identified with the gods of the state religion. This divine couple whose effigies were dedicated in the Field of Stelae over a period of four centuries, into the third century, cannot be claimed as Greek or Punic deities. -

Fifty, years ago it was not so; very few people dared to question any religions belief which had been taught them by their parents and the priest or minister of the sect into which they had been born. They were taught that Doubt was one of the most subtle and dangerous weapons used by Satan to ensnare the wisest and best, so that if one found himself doubting some such obvious absurdity as that the wrath of the Good God could be appeased only by the blood of his Son, he was filled with consternation and straightway prayed very earnestly to be delivered from the dreadful sin into which he was falling.[Such prayers are frequently “answered”, for human will, auto-suggestion, self- deception and kindred powers may produce almost any desired effect on the mind]. ABSTRACT Toward a Protestant Theology of Celibacy: Protestant Thought in Dialogue with John Paul II’s Theology of the Body Russell Joseph Hobbs, M.A., D.Min. Mentor: Ralph C. Wood, Ph.D. This dissertation examines the theology of celibacy found both in John Paul II’s writings and in current Protestant theology, with the aim of developing a framework and legitimation for a richer Protestant theology of celibacy. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis. Chapter 2 reviews the Protestant literature on celibacy under two headings: first, major treatments from the Protestant era, including those by Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, various Shakers, and authors from the English Reformation; second, treatments from 1950 to the present. The chapter reveals that modern Protestants have done little theological work on celibacy. Self-help literature for singles is common and often insightful, but it is rarely theological. Chapter 3 synthesizes the best contemporary Protestant thinking on celibacy under two headings: first, major treatments by Karl Barth, Max Thurian, and Stanley Grenz; second, major Protestant themes in the theology of celibacy. The fourth chapter describes the foundation of John Paul II’s theology of human sexuality and includes an overview of his life and education, an evaluation of Max Scheler’s influence, and a review of Karol Wojtyla’s Love and Responsibility and The Acting Person . Chapter 5 treats two topics. First, it describes John Paul II’s, Theology of the Body , and more particularly the section entitled “Virginity for the Sake of the Kingdom.” There he examines Jesus’ instruction in Matt 19:11-12, celibacy as vocation, the superiority of celibacy to marriage, celibacy as redemption of the body, Paul’s instructions in 1 Cor 7, and virginity as human destiny. -

Introducing the theme, Monod affirms that the only hypothesis that modern science can accept regarding the relation between invariance and teleonomy is ‘that invariance necessarily precedes teleonomy’.1 All the other conceptions, according to Monod, presuppose the opposite hypothesis, ‘that is, that invariance [is] protected, ontogenesis guided, evolution oriented by a teleonomic initial principle of which all these phenom- ena (living beings) would be manifestations’.2 Implicit in this inversion is the renunciation of the principle of objectivity.3 Among the conceptions that invert the relation between invariance and teleonomy, Monod distinguishes two groups: vitalism, which admits an intervention of the teleonomic principle into the environment of the biosphere, and animism, which ‘appeals to a uni- versal teleonomic principle, responsible both for cosmic evolution and for the evolution of the biosphere, within which it is expressed only in a most pre- cise and intense way’.4 The animist conceptions stabilise a profound alliance between man and nature: they project onto animals, plants, minerals, meteo- rological phenomena and celestial bodies ‘man’s awareness of the intensely 1 Monod 1997, p. 25 (translation modified).
