CEDARS-SINAI PEDIATRIC PATIENTS TO RECEIVE GAME BALL DURING PREGAME Four Cedars-Sinai pediatric patients AIDEN DUONG, LEILANI HARMON, PEPPER PIERCE and JORDAN STAMPLEY will receive a game ball from team mascot Rampage at midfield during the pregame ceremony. Earlier this season, the four Cedars-Sinai pediatric patients visited the Rams’ facility in Thousand Oaks to conduct interviews with players such as Michael Brockers, Andrew Whitworth and Johnny Hekker. During the interviews, each child had the chance to ask questions about the player’s training regimens as well as their healthy habits and practices. CANCER FIGHTER TO SERVE AS COIN TOSS CAPTAIN Cancer fighter MELOKIA TUPUA will join the captains at midfield to participate in the game’s opening coin toss. In May of 2019, 15-year-old Melokia Tupua was diagnosed with cancer after Linda University’s Children Hospital discovered she had a tumor on her brain. Within the last 7 months, Tupua has undergone brain surgery, completed six rounds of chemotherapy and half of her radiation treatments. A southern California native, Tupua has become a diehard Rams fan and enjoys watching games with her father. The Rams teamed up with the Austen Everett Foundation to provide Tupua with a memorable gameday experience. The Austen Everett Foundation’s mission is to empower youth in their fight against cancer through the strength and support of teams and athletes in their local community. KENNY WASHINGTON TO BE HONORED AS LEGEND OF THE GAME The Family of Kenny Washington will be recognized on his behalf as the Rams Legend of the game during the first quarter. Kenny Washington was born and raised in Los Angeles and played both football and baseball at UCLA from 1937-1939. Washington was the first UCLA athlete to be named an All-American, and during that time, he was also a teammate on the baseball team with Jackie Robinson. Following his graduation from UCLA, he was passed over by the NFL. At the time, the league was in the middle of a 12-year ban on African-American players. Instead, Washington briefly coached the freshman team at UCLA, joined the LA police department and played four seasons of semi-pro football, first for the Hollywood Bears and later for the San Francisco Clippers. In 1946, seven years after Washington graduated from UCLA, the NFL lifted its ban on African-American players and Washington, along with Woody Strode, were signed by the Los Angeles Rams, competing on the inaugural team in the Coliseum. Washington still holds the Rams franchise record for the longest touchdown run of 92 yards vs. Chicago in 1947. RAMS SEASON TICKET MEMBER TO WIN PAIR OF SUPER BOWL LIV TICKETS A Rams Season Ticket Holder will be recognized on-field and win a pair of tickets to Super Bowl LIV in Miami during the second quarter. Leading up to the Rams final home game at the LA Memorial Coliseum, Season Ticket Members were invited to share their favorite memories at the iconic stadium for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LIV. With hundreds of submissions, a group of 7 finalists were selected. Each finalist recounted their favorite Coliseum memory and discussed their excitement for the Rams future at SoFi Stadium in a video that will be played in-game before the winner of the Super Bowl LIV trip is revealed. RAMS TO SALUTE FORMER MARINE & SPECIAL OPERATIONS OFFICER On Sunday, the Rams will honor former Marine & Special Operations Officer DEREK HERRERA during the first quarter. Herrera served in the U.S. military for eight years as a Marine Infantry and Special Operations Officer. During his deployments overseas, he was a Rifle Platoon Commander in Ramadi, Iraq and eventually conducted non-combat operations in multiple countries in the Middle East along with disaster relief in Haiti. In 2012, Herrera was injured in battle and became paralyzed from the chest down. After rehabilitating from his injury, he enrolled in UCLA’s Anderson EMBA program and eventually became the Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Spinal Singularity, a seed-stage venture-backed medical device company that designs devices for people with spinal injuries. Herrera currently resides in San Clemente, CA. 91-YEAR-OLD RAMS FAN TO BE RECOGNIZED AS SEASON TICKET MEMBER OF GAME Longtime Season Ticket Holder AURORA GALARZA will be recognized during the fourth quarter as the Season Ticket Member of the Game, presented by TriNet. Aurora Galarza has been a Rams Season Ticket Member since 1967, when she began to regularly attend home games with her late husband, Mike. Some of her fondest memories were watching their favorite Rams players such as Roman Gabriel, Jack Youngblood and Eric Dickerson. She is the mother of 6 children, many of whom are current Season Ticket Holders and will continue to be when the Rams move into SoFi Stadium, where they will play their home games starting in 2020. RAMS TO HOST PREGAME TAILGATE FOR ‘RISE WITH THE RAMS’ PARTICIPANTS The Rams will host high school student-athletes and Rise with the Rams participants from Locke, Harvard Westlake, Loyola and Garfield High School for a pregame tailgate at Banc of California Stadium. The tailgate will serve as the program’s culminating event and will feature a discussion about its key takeaways as well as a Q & A session with Rams Legends ROLAND WILLIAMS and CHRIS THOMAS.

THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 25, No. 1 (2003) Archie Manning, Quarterback New Orleans Saints (1971-82); Houston Oilers (82-83); Minnesota Vikings (83-84) March 25, 2002 By Thomas Danyluk I admit it. I didn’t want to do it. After Archie Manning agreed to give an interview for this project and I dug into the whole research process, it didn’t take long before things got way too depressing. It had been quite a while since I sifted through any Saints stats from the 1970s, but motivation dropped way out of sight in a hurry. No mid-December contests to relive when the stakes were high. No playoff games to revisit. No championship seasons. Just a whole bayou full of losing. Too much losing. Too many thirds-and fourteen, year after year after year. Here’s a sample of the mess that really belongs buried somewhere in a sealed underground vault. • 1971 Saints, Manning’s rookie year: 4-8-2. Last place in the NFC West. Seven penalties per game are the most in the league and yield almost 1000 bonus yards to New Orleans’ opponents. XXX • 1972 Saints: 2-11-1. Last place. Leading rusher in New Orleans? Running back Bob Gresham with 381 yards. You don’t want to know the runner-up performance at RB. Well, maybe you do. Fullback Bill Butler dutifully kicked in 233. Only five rushing touchdowns all season as a team. • 1975 Saints: 2-12. Last place again. Manning tosses 20 picks and 7 lonely touchdowns, while the offense averages barely 12 points per game and scores over 20 only twice.
