ASG Ocala / North Central Florida Chapter January - June 2014 Challenge! Reminder The Gainesville Sewing Circle planned to do a challenge for the first half of 2014. Then we got to thinking . . . Why should WE have all the fun? So, you are ALL invited to meet this challenge.

We’ve all heard many idioms and expressions. “Fork in the road.” “Raining cats and dogs.” “Bear with me.” “Great balls of f ire!” “It’s a jungle out there.” “Let ‘er rip!” And don’t forget plays on words, like “Boot camp,” “Flower child,” “Mind’s eye.” Of course we’ve all heard those “things your Momma always said,” or grandma or aunt or other influential woman in your life. And then there’s “poetic license,” where you interpret a line from a poem or song literally or figuratively, and the line becomes the title of your piece.

1) Pick a saying, idiom or expression, something your momma said, or take poetic license. 2) The item you create for this challenge can be a garment or a fashion accessory. As long as you can wear it or put it on a body, it counts. Envision the expression you se- lected in a garment or fashion accessory. 3) Colors: Black & White + One The full range of white to black (aka gray), plus one additional color. You can use a full range of your + One color, too. There are many shades of red, green, blue, purple, yellow, orange, etc., etc. Feel free to use all the shades of your selected color that you wish. 4) Multiple Techniques: There must be at least five (5) clearly defined and visible techniques used in the construction or embellishment of your item. Examples: Fusing, applique, embroidery, top stitching, thread painting, ruching, fabric manipulation, weaving, paper piecing, standard piecing, crystals, angelina, couching, etc. 5) This will be a peer-judged challenge, with prizes. Judging will take place at the June 25 meeting of the Gainesville Sewing Circle. To enter, challenge pieces must actual- ly reflect the theme of the challenge. Entries not in compliance with the challenge theme will not be eligible for prizes, but will be included in show and tell.

Gainesville Neighborhood Group March meeting

The March meeting of the Gainesville Neighbor- hood group was on Japanese bookbinding taught by Peggy. In a former life, Peggy was a middle school art teacher. Boy does she have the patience. She had this lesson down-pat even for the faint at heart or should we say those with all thumbs. Check out the group selfie at the bottom. (Move over Ellen)
