For Immediate Release: October 16, 2014 Game #5: Bears Tangle With Tigers In Key Ivy Match-up BROWN (2-2, 0-1 Ivy) vs. PRINCETON (2-2, 1-0 Ivy) Saturday, October 18, 2014; 3:30 pm Princeton Stadium; Princeton, New Jersey Radio: WPRV-AM 790 TV: NBC Regional Sports Network Video: ildn.tv/brown The Bears’ Record: Senior wide receiver Brian Strachan caught three touchdown passes, including one in overtime, and junior Grant Senne booted the game-winning 23-yard field goal in the second overtime, to lift Brown (2-2, 0-1 Ivy) to a 27-24 non-league win over Holy Cross and give Bears’ head coach Phil Estes his 100th career victory. Estes Earns 100th Career Win: Bears’ head coach Phil Estes’ 100th career win came in style with a double overtime victory over Holy Cross last week. Estes now has a career record of 100-63 in his 17th season and has won three of Brown’s four Ivy League Championships. Estes’ 100 career overall wins rank 9th all-time in Ivy League history and his 67 career conference wins are the most in Brown history and rank sixth in the Ivy League record book. The Tigers: Princeton (2-2, 1-0 Ivy) raced out to a 16-0 lead, but Colgate rallied for a 31-30 win over the Tigers. Junior tailback DiAndre Atwater paced the Tigers’ offense with 131 yards on 18 carries, while Dre Nelson opened the game with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Brown vs. Princeton – 81st Meeting: Brown and Princeton have met 80 times, dating back to 1898, with the Tigers holding a 53-27-0 series advantage. Last year, Princeton rallied from an early 17-0 deficit to defeat the Bears, 39-17, in Providence. Brown has dropped the last two match-ups against Princeton after winning five straight games, its last win a 34-0 decision over the Tigers in 2011 at Brown Stadium. Bears and Tigers On NBC Regional Sports Network: Saturday’s game against Princeton is featured as the Ivy League Game of the Week and will televised on the NBC Regional Sports Network with the following affiliates: SNY, TCN Philadelphia, CSN New England, CSN Mid-Atlantic, CSN Bay Area & CSN California. Jon Gurevitch will call the play and former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Kevin Riley will provide the analysis. Bears In Overtime: Brown had lost its last two overtime games before grabbing a 27-24 double overtime decision over Holy Cross last week. The Bears’ last overtime win came in the opening game of the 2010 season, a 33-30 victory over Stony Brook. Brown lost a 27-24 overtime decision at URI in 2010 and 35-28 at Columbia to conclude the 2011 season. Fuller Directs Bears’ Offense: Senior co-captain Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH) earned the starting nod at quarterback with an outstanding spring and preseason camp. He ranks fourth in the Ivy League in passing with 212.2 yards per game. Fuller threw for a season high 240 yards and two touchdowns against Holy Cross, completing 20-of-37 passes. He had his first win as a starter, 20-13, over URI, completing 20-of-35 passes for 169 yards and a TD. Fuller threw for 238 yards and a touchdown, while running for 22 yards against Harvard, and passed for 202 yards against Georgetown in his first collegiate start, completing 18 of 31 passes. A Business Entrepreneurship and Organizations concentrator, he appeared in two games in 2013, completing 2-of-2 passes against Georgetown, while also competing against Bryant. He can use his athletic ability to offer pass or run options for the Bears. Coke Takes Lead At Running Back: Junior tailback Andrew Coke (Andover, MA) ranks fourth in the Ivy League with 69.5 yards per game. He rushed for a career high 89 yards on 18 carries vs. Holy Cross, while also catching three passes for 28 yards. Coke ran for 72 yards on 13 carries vs. Georgetown, while also making three catches for 23 yards. He also had 56 hard-fought yards on 18 carries against Harvard, and ran for 61 yards on 22 carries against URI. Coke is Brown’s top returning tailback after rushing for 292 yards a year ago. All-Ivy Alex Jette Returns: Sophomore wide receiver Alex Jette (North Attleboro, MA) is the lone returning All-Ivy player on offense after being named First Team All-Ivy as kick returner, becoming the first freshman in Brown history to earn first team all-league honors. Jette made three receptions for 53 yards vs. Holy Cross. He had three catches for 42 yards vs. URI, and set up a Brown score with a 30-yard punt return. Jette made three catches for 78 yards against Harvard. He returned a punt 23 yards and had a reception for five yards vs. Georgetown. Strachan Catching On: Senior Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA), who started the season at tailback but moved back to wide receiver, leads the Bears and ranks seventh in the Ivy League with 19 receptions. Strachan had a big day against Holy Cross, making eight receptions for 98 yards with three touchdown receptions, including a 25-yard TD catch in the first overtime period. He led the Bears with seven receptions against Rhode Island. Strachan had 33 catches as a wide receiver a year ago, Bear Facts: Brown’s defense held Rhode Island to just three rushing yards…Junior Seth Rosenbauer (Lima, OH) had a major impact in the Bears’ win over URI, running for 53 yards on 10 carries, including a 38-yard run… Junior safety Will Quigley (Marblehead, MA), who ranks fourth on the Brown team with 19 total tackles, led the Bears with 10 tackles against Harvard after making eight tackles vs. Georgetown…Junior outside linebacker Michael Walsh (Swampscott, MA) had four second-half tackles vs. Rhode Island. His 18 tackles rank fourth on the Brown team. MacDonald Stepping Up: Junior outside linebacker Ryan MacDonald (Falmouth, ME) ranks third on the Brown team with 21 tackles. He made six tackles vs. Holy Cross and intercepted a pass at the goal line to stop a Crusaders’ drive. He made six solo tackles against Harvard. Versatile Doles: Junior Troy Doles (Saratoga, CA) has explosive speed at wide receiver and is a kick-off return specialist. Doles had four catches for 68 yards vs. Georgetown, and made four catches vs. Holy Cross and threw a 10-yard TD pass. Defensive Line Tidbits: Senior defensive end Chad Berry (East Lyme, CT) had two tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble vs. URI. He has 15 total tackles on the season… Sophomore defensive end Robert Hughes (Long Valley, NJ) and sophomore defensive tackle Tom Kutschke (Lake Forest, IL) each recorded sacks against Harvard… Junior tackle Jake Walther (Pittsburgh, PA) turned in a strong effort vs. Georgetown with his first career interception, a forced fumble and four tackles. Last year, he made 22 tackles, including six tackles for a loss…Senior end Zach Sparber (Norwood, NJ) made six tackles vs. Georgetown, including two solo hits. He has 17 total tackles on the season. Giovacchini Headlines Linebacker Corps – Named Co-Captain: An honorable mention All-Ivy inside linebacker, senior co-captain Daniel Giovacchini (Acton, MA) is a two-year starter for the Bears and has played in all 30 games of his career. He had four solo tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble in Brown’s win over URI. A National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete award nominee and Business Entrepreneurship and Organizations concentrator at Brown, he led the defensive unit with 66 total tackles a year ago, making 43 solo hits and assisting on 23 tackles. His two interceptions ranked second on the 2013 Brown team. Senne Gets His Kicks: Junior Grant Senne (Winter Park, FL) booted the game-winning 23-yard field goal in the second overtime period to lift the Bears to a 27-24 win over Holy Cross. He also booted a career high 40 yard field goal against the Crusaders. Senne booted field goals of 32 and 26 yards in Brown’s win over URI. He was the Bears’ player of the game against Georgetown, providing the Bears with their lone score, a 22-yard field goal, and punting for a 43.6 yard per punt average. Senne averaged 38.0 yards per punt vs. Harvard with three boots downed inside the 20. He returns to the punting duties after averaging 37.3 yards per punt a year ago. Russo Leads Ivy League In Solo Tackles: Senior Xavier Russo (San Francisco, CA) leads the Ivy League and ranks 11th in the nation in solo tackles with 6.0 per game. His 8.2 tackles per game rank fifth in the Ivy League. Russo made eight tackles in the Bears’ win over Holy Cross. He led the Bears with six tackles, including four solo hits, against URI. Russo had a strong game vs. Georgetown with a team high 10 tackles (9 solo), a quarterback sack and two tackles for a loss. Against Harvard, Russo had nine tackles, including five solo stops. He started all 10 games for the Bears a year ago, making 46 total tackles. An imposing figure at 6-5 and 255 pounds, Russo also had three quarterback sacks and intercepted a pass against Harvard. Romberg Leads Receiving Corps: Senior Stian Romberg (Maryville, TN) ranks second on the Brown team with 14 receptions for 156 yards. He earned the starting nod at the wide receiver position and had a team high six receptions vs.
