FUTILITY STREAK IS HISTORY--With five runs in Wednesday’s win over the Brewers in Miller Park, the Royals snapped their club record of 19 consecutive games of scoring four runs or fewer, the longest such streak in the Majors since the Orioles went 21 games in 1992...the dry spell began with a 1-0 loss in Anaheim on June 5 and ran through this past Tuesday in Milwaukee with KC plating a total of 36 runs in the 19 games, a 1.9 per contest average...during the extended drought, the Royals scored four runs (once), three runs (5 times), two runs (six times), one run (five times) and were blanked on two occasions...despite the five-run outburst in the seventh inning on Wednesday, Kansas City has still scored a big league low 53 runs this month, 26 fewer than the runner-up Tampa Bay Rays (79). This & That SUPER DUPER EARNS WALK-OFF WIN--Kansas City replay review guru Bill Duplissea closed out Wednesday’s win in Milwaukee with his first walk-off replay victory, apprising the bench that Ryan Braun was in fact out on the back end of a double play...once the call fell into the hands of the New York crew, it was determined that the 27th out did occur and the Royals walked off the field with a 5-4 win...the decision upped Dupe’s Major League leading replay mark to 19-for-23 for an 82.6% success rate, which is way ahead of any other big league club based on the numbers from MLB on Wednesday, with the Yankees next at 73.9% (17-for-23)...Dupe has made good on 68% of his challenges in his career (118-for-174), which ranks among the best, including a Major League best 72.4% success rate over the last three seasons (71-for-98). CUTHBERT TO REHAB--Infielder Cheslor Cuthbert, out since May 16 with a low back strain, will begin a minor-league injury rehab stint with Omaha (AAA) tonight...the 25-year old appeared in 30 games for KC, hitting .194 (20-for-103) before being sidelined with the injury...he has spent the last few days in Arizona working with the Royals’ extended spring club. TURN AHEAD THE CLOCK TOMORROW--It was 20 years ago when the Royals and Mariners played a “Turn Ahead the Clock” game in the with each club wearing futuristic uniforms...two decades later the promotion has resurfaced, this time in Safeco Field and the 20th anniversary will be celebrated tomorrow when these two clubs again don uniforms that project into the future, this time 2027. HOME NEXT WEEK--This road swing will end Sunday and the Royals will return to Kauffman Stadium for a six-game stand against a pair of the top clubs in the American League with Cleveland (3) and Boston (3) hitting town...the A.L. Central-leading Indians pay their first of three visits to Kansas City with 7:15 games next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday...after taking next Thursday off, the Royals will host the Red Sox for three on Friday (7:15), Saturday (6:15) and Sunday (1:15)...it’s the last home work for Kansas City prior to the All-Star break.
