Located in the former Roman imperial residence of Carnuntum, only a small portion of the large area has been explored - an area that was located on the important trade routes that connected east and west, north and south. At the collapse of the Roman Empire, the city was abandoned and no settlements were established, allowing researchers to study the period as it was. The gladiator school may not be the only treasure to be found on the site of the lost city of Carnuntum - there may be many, many more.
