IU Mizoram - AR 2016-17 5 From the “ “ Vice Chancellor’s Desk Greetings! It is my privilege to present to you the 11th Annual Report of the ICFAI University, Mizoram for the year 2016-17. The report covers the activities for the period April 01, 2016 to March 31, 2017. This is in compliance with Section 44 of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, (Mizoram) Act, 2006 (Act No.4 of 2006) The enclosed report presents details of various activities of the University including co-curricular activities like sports and cultural activities. I am pleased to share that the Fifth Convocation of the University was held on November 10, 2016 at the ICFAI University campus Auditorium wherein 109 students were awarded degrees. Honorable Governor of Mizoram Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) was the Chief Guest. The University has established its name for employment oriented quality higher education and we have been able to place all the students of MBA Program. This year we have started new PG programs in the field of Social Work, History and Education to broaden the academic scope of the University and also to attract the students from diverse backgrounds. The University is Accredited Training Partner for GST by National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), an Apex Institution of Government of India for capacity building in the field of Indirect Taxes. We are grateful to the Government of Mizoram for their continuous support and encouragement. The continued cooperation extended by the Local Council of Durtlang North is noteworthy. I would also like to convey my sincere appreciation to my predecessor, Prof. J. P. Ramappa for his admirable contribution and dedication to the cause of the University. Regular meetings of Board of Governors and Board of Management, Academic Council and Finance Committee were held as per provisions of Statutes and Act. Introduction The ICFAI University, Mizoram was established under the provisions of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, (Mizoram) Act 2006, (Act No. 4 of 2006).The University is sponsored by The ICFAI Society, a not-for-profit educational society established in 1984. The University is empowered by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to award degrees under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. The University emphasizes on providing high quality and industry relevant education in the areas of Management, Humanities, Commerce, Information Technology, and the Hospitality & Tourism Management programs including distance learning programs. The ICFAI University, Mizoram is a Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London and Member of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. The University believes in creating and disseminating knowledge through innovative educational programs, research, consulting and publishing. The University seeks to establish a cadre of professionals with a high level of competence and deep sense of ethics and commitment to the code of professional conduct. 2. Vision: Merit with Ethics Vision: The ICFAI University Mizoram to emerge as a premier “Center of Excellence” for career oriented education known for contributing leaders in the vital sectors of the Socio-economy. Mission: The mission of the University is to offer world class, innovative, career-oriented professional, post graduate and undergraduate programs through inclusive technology-aided pedagogies, to equip students with the requisite professional and life skills as well as social sensitivity and high sense of ethics. The University will strive to create an intellectually stimulating environment for research, particularly in areas concerning the socio-economic and cultural development of the state and the nation. 3. Governance The ICFAI University, Mizoram is a professionally managed University. All the statutory bodies are constituted in accordance with the Act, Statutes and Rules of the University. They meet regularly to review the operations of the University. Issues pertaining to institutional development, long-term strategies, programs to be developed, human resources, staff recruitment, training and development and financial matters are discussed at these meetings. Appropriate decisions are taken and guidelines given for their implementation with the objective of achieving academic excellence.

Distance Education Council (DEC) The University has received a provisional recognition from the Distance Education Bureau of the UGC for offering programs of the University through distance mode vide Distance Education Council letter No. F. DEC/ Miz/ICFAI/08 dated 03-11-2008. 7. Infrastructure The University is endowed with excellent facilities required for creating a congenial academic atmosphere. State- of-the-art infrastructure is available at the University to meet the requirements of the programs conducted. a) Academic Complex The University campus is spread across nearly 17.58 acres of land with built- up area of 43,000 sq.ft. The University campus is operating its functions from own premises, and a leased building in close vicinity. The Classrooms are well-equipped with latest audio-visual equipment, LCD Projector and there are many other facilities like language lab with 20 stations, IT lab, Auditorium that has 250 seating capacity and Video Conferencing room. The campus is also well equipped with firefighting system, water harvesting and modern filtration system.
