UPDATED 2014-2015 HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE It is our goal that Homestead High School be a safe, positive environment for students. Throughout life many responsibilities dictate appropriate attire and appearance. Students are expected to wear their clothing and manage their appearance in a manner that does not disrupt teaching, promote vulgarity, violence or gang activity, depict weapons, advertise illegal substances (including alcohol, tobacco, and drugs), or express double meanings. While selection of clothing to be worn at school is primarily the responsibility of parents and students, the school administration reserves the right to make the final judgment concerning appropriateness of the student’s attire and appearance. If a student questions the appropriateness of his/her outfit, he/she should not wear the item of clothing. Guidelines for appropriate dress include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Students will wear footwear at all times. Slippers are prohibited. 2. Hats/hoods/bandanas/sunglasses/headgear of any kind should not be worn, or be visible, upon entry into the school and throughout the end of the academic school day (2:35 P.M.). 3. Exposed shoulders, backs, cleavage, or midriffs are not allowed at any time. All shirts must have sleeves that cap the shoulders. Examples of shirts not to be worn include: muscle shirts, tank tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, visible undergarments, see-through tops. A test to use to see if your top is too “low cut”: Lay the palm of your hand on the center of your upper chest so that the index finger is at the base of the collar bone. -

JOAN CRAWFORD Early Life and Inspiration Joan Crawford was born Lucille Fay LeSueur on March 23, 1908, in San Antonio, Texas. Her biological father, Thomas E. LeSueur, left the family shortly after Lucille’s birth, leaving Anna Bell Johnson, her mother, behind to take care of the family. page 1 Lucille’s mother later married Henry J. Cassin, an opera house owner from Lawton, Oklahoma, which is where the family settled. Throughout her childhood there, Lucille frequently watched performances in her stepfather’s theater. Lucille, having grown up watching the many vaudeville acts perform at the theater, grew up wanting to pursue a dancing career. page 2 In 1917, Lucille’s family moved to Kansas City after her stepfather was accused of embezzlement. Cassin, a Catholic, sent Lucille to a Catholic girls’ school by the name of St. Agnes Academy. When her mother and stepfather divorced, she remained at the academy as a work student. It was there that she began dating and met a man named Ray Sterling, who inspired her to start working hard in school. page 3 In 1922, Lucille registered at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. However, she only attended the college for a few months before dropping out when she realized that she was not prepared enough for college. page 4 Early Career After her stint at Stephens, Lucille began dancing in various traveling choruses under the name Lucille LeSueur. While performing in Detroit, her talent was noticed by a producer named Jacob Shubert. Shubert gave her a spot in his 1924 Broadway show Innocent Eyes, in which she performed in the chorus line. -

With Canada’s original rock ’n’ roll superstars The Guess Who, Burton scored an unprecedented string of international hit singles, including “These Eyes,” “Laughing,” “No Time,” “American Woman,” “Share the Land,” “Hang on to Your Life,” “Albert Flasher,” “Sour Suite,” “Glamour Boy,” “Star Baby,” “Clap for the Wolfman” and “Dancin’ Fool”—all written or co-written by Burton. Lesson #6 Hats and Sunglasses Goal: To teach students to use hats and sunglasses to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays. Sun Safety Message # 6 Be safe from the sun’s harmful rays. Use a hat and shades everyday when outside. (except in the pool!) Discuss the importance of wearing hats and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from UV rays. 1. How many of you wear a hat or sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun? What kind of hat do you wear? Do you wear sunglasses? 2. Do you remember that we said that the right clothing can help protect you from the sun? Well, hats and sunglasses are also important for sun protection. Hats cover your face and neck, and sunglasses can block ultraviolet (UV) rays. 3. Do you know that certain types of hats and sunglasses give you better protection than others? Certain types of hats give you better protection than others, just as certain sunglasses have UV protection while others don’t. Hats that protect your face, ears, neck and scalp are best. So, wide-brimmed hats are better than baseball caps or sun visors. And glasses that block ultraviolet or UV rays are better than ones that don’t have that protective film. When you buy shades (sunglasses) from the store, look for a little sticker on the lens; it will say 100% UV protection. But even regular eyeglasses can have UV protection. If you don’t know whether your glasses have UV protection, ask your parents or eye doctor if they do. -

Assessing Next-Generation May 2018 Construction Helmets The KASK - Zenith and Superplasma Helmets Skanska’s Advancement In Head Protection Pilot Program Current Status Currently, Skanska uses the MSA V-Gard as its primary choice of hard hat head protection. This hard hat was introduced to the US 56 years ago. The V Guard (and all other regular styles of hard hats) primarily protects against objects striking the crown of a person’s head. This type of head protection offers minimal, if any protection to the front, rear and sides of the head. Comparatively, head protection such as the KASK helmet (not a hard hat) offers much more protection. Although it is listed as Type I head protection, it has passed ANSI Type II impact tests to the front, rear and sides. The Need for Change Skanska USA is investigating the advancements of head protection for employees working on its projects. Helmets being piloted on our projects include products from KASK, MSA Nexius, and 3M X5000. There are many reasons why we are looking to improve the current head protection. The primary reason is the fact that head injuries of all classifications still occur on our projects. These injuries vary on the spectrum of severity, from minimal in nature to catastrophic. Plain and simple: changes in head protection are needed in our industry. Skanska is looking to champion these efforts through an in-depth evaluation of different types of head protection, including the KASK helmets described in this white paper. A thorough list of the reasons for change include: • During any fall incident (slips, trips and falls from the same level, falls from ladders, falls from wall forms, etc.) the current hard hat is prone to fall off a worker’s head prior to impact because of the tendency for the head to “snap backwards,” leaving the head exposed when protection is most needed. -

After more than forty-eight hours had elapsed since the khaki-clad, tiki-torch wielding white nationalists marched across the University of Virginia campus and participated deadly violence the following day, Trump finally stepped in front of the cameras only to blame both sides of the racial conflict occurring in the rural hamlet of Charlottesville. His ambivalence and refusal to denounce overt racism perpetrated by his white populist base reinforced his public perception as being racist himself. Although Trump claims to be “the least racist person,” his words and actions over the decades speak for themselves.1 In a 2018 New York Times opinion article, David Leonhardt and Ian Prasad Philbrick assembled a conclusive list of his known racist comments.2 Thus, it could be that this notion of perception is really an actuality. Whether reality of “perception,” this aspect of the president taints those individuals within his orbits of influence, whether they are advisors, friends, or family. For some individuals and some news media outlets, assumptions might be made regarding those closest to the president, namely his family members. -
