Blue Crabs sign two as roster building begins Posted by TBN_News On 02/06/2015 Waldorf, MD- The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced that Renny Osuna and Gustavo Molina have signed contract offers to play in 2015. The two players represent the first players that have signed contracts with the Blue Crabs for the upcoming season. Osuna, 29, was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers organization in the 32nd round of the 2005 Amateur Draft and has had playing time at every infield position since then. The Venezuela native was signed by Southern Maryland in 2013 and appeared in 117 games and posted an impressive .296 average at the plate. He was unable to rejoin the team in 2014 but will be starting at short stop in 2015. Molina, 32, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago White Sox in 2000 and spent seven seasons in the organization prior to stints with the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. He made his major league debut in 2007 as a member of the opening day roster for the White Sox. The catcher most recently played for the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2013 where he maintained a noteworthy .992 fielding percentage behind the plate in 82 games. Featuring a career fielding percentage of .989 over 14 seasons, Molina will provide the Blue Crabs with a solid defensive foundation to open the 2015 season. “Being able to announce the signing of Osuna and Molina is just another indication that baseball season is right around the corner,” said Patrick Day, General Manager of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. “It is always exciting to sign the first group of players for the upcoming season, and I am genuinely thrilled to get to see Osuna take some swings and watch Molina showcase his defensive skills behind home plate.” Copyright © 2021 thebaynet.com.
