SUMMARY: A 6-foot-7 guard from Mesa, Ariz., Cummard was the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and received Associated Press All-America honorable mention this past season. The do-everything junior swingman led the Cougars in scoring (15.8), field-goal percentage (.569), three-point percentage (.472) and blocked shots (1.0) while ranking second in rebounds (6.3), assists (3.5), steals (0.9) and free-throw percentage (.857). Known as a fierce competitor and all-around contributor, Cummard also led the team in shooting, steals and minutes while ranking second in assists and blocks and third in scoring and rebounds as a sophomore. A three-year starter and top perimeter defender, Cummard has good ball-handling skills, excellent shooting range and the toughness to rebound and finish in traffic. He has helped the Cougars achieve a 72-26 (.735) record and three straight postseason invitations, including NCAA Tournament bids the last two years. JONATHAN TAVERNARI 6-6 • 215 • junior • forward Sao Bernardo, Brazil

SUMMARY: The 2007 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, Jonathan Tavernari followed a standout season in his first year with the Cougars with a record-setting sophomore campaign. He earned All-MWC Third Team honors and set the BYU single-season and sophomore MWC three-point record with 88 triples. He has helped the Cougars win back-to-back outright MWC titles in his first two sea- sons. The 6-foot-6 forward was the lone non-professional to earn a spot on the 2008 Brazilian Senior National Team, playing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens. He is a skilled perimeter player with great physical presence who has deep range and an excellent shoot- ing touch. He led the state of Nevada in scoring as a senior at Bishop Gorman High School at 23.1 points per game.

SUMMARY: A 6-foot-9 forward/center, Gavin MacGregor provided defensive toughness in the post off the bench for the Cougars as a walk- on in 2006-07, appearing in 11 games. He gives BYU added depth and size in the post and is a shot-blocking presence inside. Prior to mak- ing his Cougar debut in 2006-07, he last played at Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, Calif., in 2002, where he achieved career highs of 25 points, 26 rebounds and nine blocked shots. SUMMARY: A two-time 4A State MVP out of Timpview High School in Provo, Miles returned from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and averaged 8.6 minutes per game in 34 contests in 2007-08. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per game as a freshman for BYU in 2004-05, using his quickness and versatility to make an impact in his first season with the Cougars. An excellent shot-blocker and defender who runs the floor well, he was ranked as high as the No. 2 post player in the West out of high school.

PLAYER SUMMARY: Described as a lightning quick point guard, junior Lamont Morgan redshirted last year after transferring from Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, Calif. A highly successful junior college program, SCC advanced to the state semifinal game in 2007 behind the play of Morgan, who started every game at the point and averaged 4.4 assists per contest. In addition to his ball-handling abilites, Morgan will also be counted on for his leadership and court vision this season.
