• Ferrari 250 GTO Is the Car That Every Man Dreams of Having
Beat: Automobiles Ferrari 250 GTO is the car that every man dreams of having F 250 GTO is the most beautiful car Bologna Italy, 30.10.2017, 21:58 Time USPA NEWS - The Ferrari 250 GTO is a GT car produced by Ferrari from 1962 to 1964 for homologation into the FIA's Group 3 Grand Touring Car category. It was powered by Ferrari's Tipo 168/62 V12 engine. The "250" in its name denotes the displacement in cubic centimeters of each of its cylinders; "GTO" stands for "Gran Turismo Omologato",Italian for "Grand Touring Homologated." Just 39 250 GTOs were manufactured between 1962 and 1964. This includes 33 cars with 1962-63 bodywork (Series I), three with 1964 (Series II) bodywork similar to the Ferrari 250 LM, and three "330 GTO" specials with a larger engine. Four of the older 1962-1963 (Series I) cars were updated in 1964 with Series II bodies. When new, the GTO cost $18,000 in the United States, with buyers personally approved by Enzo Ferrari and his dealer for North America, Luigi Chinetti. In May 2012 the 1962 250 GTO made for Stirling Moss set an all-time record selling price of $38,115,000. In October 2013, Connecticut-based collector Paul Pappalardo sold chassis number 5111GT to an unnamed buyer for a new record of around $52 million. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the 250 GTO eighth on a list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s, and nominated it the top sports car of all time. Similarly, Motor Trend Classic placed the 250 GTO first on a list of the "Greatest Ferraris of All Time." Popular Mechanics named it the "Hottest Car of All Time." Tipo 168/62 V12 engine The 250 GTO was designed to compete in GT racing, where its rivals would include the Shelby Cobra, Jaguar E-Type and Aston Martin DP214.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as Scuderia Ferrari, the company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street-legal vehicles as Ferrari S.p.A. in 1947. In 1969, Fiat S.p.A. became a shareholder of Ferrari and now its majority owner. Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has had great[citation needed] success. Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of speed, luxury and wealth. History Enzo Ferrari was not initially interested in the idea of producing road cars when he formed Scuderia Ferrari (literally "Ferrari Stable", and usually used to mean "Team Ferrari", it is correctly pronounced [skudeˈriːa]) in 1928 as a sponsor for amateur drivers headquartered in Modena. Ferrari prepared, and successfully raced, various drivers in Alfa Romeo cars until 1938, when he was hired by Alfa Romeo to head their motor racing department. In 1941, Alfa Romeo was confiscated by the fascist government of Benito Mussolini as part of the Axis Powers' war effort.

  • Investing in Collector Cars: Passion Or Profit?
Investing in collector cars: Passion or profit? Investigating the potential of an alternative asset class Master Thesis ANR: 444 182 Name: Bart Lips Study: Master Finance Subject: Alternative investments Date: 07/16/2014 Supervisor: Dr. L.D.R. Renneboog Abstract: The main objectives of this study are to find the characteristics that together make the price of a collector car, the extent to which these characteristics influence the price, what the returns of collector cars are and if they would make a viable financial asset class. In order to study this, a database of 2029 observations was created and analyzed. Consequently, an index was built and compared to conventional and alternative asset classes such as stocks, bonds, T-bills, real estate, commodities and gold. This study concludes that collector cars can be used as an investment and are indeed a viable asset class, given their reasonably high risk/return trade off, while acknowledging there are some indirect costs attached to them that are hard to quantify and generalize. I would hereby also like to thank my supervisor, Dr. Luc Renneboog, who gave me a great amount of freedom to work on my thesis independently and helped me out by giving practical and useful advice when needed. 1 Contents: 1.
