    The impact of England's second lockdown on UK visa applications 11 NOVEMBER 2020 Tracy Evlogidis PARTNER | UK CATEGORY: ARTICLE In reaction to the stark rise in coronavirus cases, England entered into a second national lockdown on 5 November 2020. In contrast with the onset of the pandemic in March of this year, UK Visas & Immigration now have the facilities in place to enable their services to continue running. We have extracted the pertinent information from Home Ofce guidance, and listed below the current status of UK visa application centres (‘VACs’) both in and outside of the UK. In summary, overseas UK VACs will remain open, however this is very much dependent on local country restrictions. In the UK, the Home Ofce is still accepting and processing in-country visa applications. UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (‘UKVCAS’) Service Points, Service and Support Centres (‘SSCs’), and English Language Test centres are classed as providing an “essential service” and thus remain open, with exceptions. The ‘ne print’ Applications made within the UK: Individuals in the UK with leave that expires after 31 October 2020 are permitted, under current coronavirus concessions, to submit a visa application from within the UK where that visa application would normally require submission from their home country. If switching into a work or study visa category, applicants may be able to start working or studying before a decision is made on their application, if specic criteria are satised.     Current Affairs 2013- January International The Fourth Meeting of ASEAN and India Tourism Minister was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 21 January, in conjunction with the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2013. The Meeting was jointly co-chaired by Union Tourism Minister K.Chiranjeevi and Prof. Dr. Bosengkham Vongdara, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lao PDR. Both the Ministers signed the Protocol to amend the Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and India on Strengthening Tourism Cooperation, which would further strengthen the tourism collaboration between ASEAN and Indian national tourism organisations. The main objective of this Protocol is to amend the MoU to protect and safeguard the rights and interests of the parties with respect to national security, national and public interest or public order, protection of intellectual property rights, confidentiality and secrecy of documents, information and data. Both the Ministers welcomed the adoption of the Vision Statement of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit held on 20 December 2012 in New Delhi, India, particularly on enhancing the ASEAN Connectivity through supporting the implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. The Ministers also supported the close collaboration of ASEAN and India to enhance air, sea and land connectivity within ASEAN and between ASEAN and India through ASEAN-India connectivity project. In further promoting tourism exchange between ASEAN and India, the Ministers agreed to launch the ASEAN-India tourism website (www.indiaasean.org) as a platform to jointly promote tourism destinations, sharing basic information about ASEAN Member States and India and a visitor guide.     Strictly embargoed until 19h00 Tuesday 23 February Media release ENHLE IS THE NEW CROWN FOR THE MISS SOUTH AFRICA PAGEANT ________________________________________ Johannesburg, February 23: When Miss South Africa 2016 is announced at Carnival City on March 19 she will be crowned with a brand new glittering masterpiece worthy of her prestigious title. Sun International, in collaboration with Cell C, has unveiled a magnificent crown named Enhle, especially created for the dazzling occasion by Jack Friedman Jewellers. The name, which means "beautiful one" in isiZulu, was chosen through a social media competition which attracted hundreds of entries. A key feature of the crown, which is made of silver, is the inclusion of an infinity sign to symbolise the enormity and ongoing nature of Miss South Africa’s role, not only during her year of reign but into the future. The crown’s three largest stones are sugilite (also called luvulite and sold as the stone of love) which are often associated with royalty thanks to their purple colour. These were mined near Hotazel in the Northern Cape. Other stones used in the crown are amethyst and white quartz crystals. Says Howard Friedman, designer of the crown and owner of Jack Friedman Jewellers: “We chose the materials used in Enhle to be symbolic of Miss South Africa’s reign. Sugilite is believed to have protective and healing properties. We hope that it will keep her safe during her reign as well as help her unite our nation. The remedies include fast-tracking the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and easing of FDI (foreign direct investment) regulations in aviation and other sectors. Addressing a press conference on 5th June 2012, CII President, Adi B. Godrej, said that the primary concern for the nation was its GDP growth rate which was a mere 5.37 per cent in the last quarter was lowest in nine years.
