Bhat Swami Vivekananda Yoga University Bangalore, India Introduction Vedas demonstrate three domains of living for betterment of process and they include karma (action), dhyana (meditation) and jnana (knowledge). As long as individuality continues as human being, actions will follow and it will eventually lead to knowledge. According to the Dhatupatha the word yajna derives from yaj* in Sanskrit language that broadly means, [a] worship of GODs (natural forces), [b] synchronisation between various domains of creation and [c] charity.1 The concept of God differs from religion to religion. The ancient Hindu scriptures conceptualises Natural forces as GOD or Devatas (deva that which enlightens [div = light]). Commonly in all ancient civilizations the worship of Natural forces as GODs was prevalent. Therefore any form of manifested (Sun, fire and so on) and or unmanifested (Prana, Manas and so on) form of energy is considered as GOD even in Hindu tradition. The study sample consisted of 132 children from 3 months to 1$ years of age, whose parents belonged to the congregation of the Vishwa Hindu Parished Temple in Bur- naby, B.C. In the dietary assessment of nutritional status, a 24-hour diet recall and a food habits questionnaire were em• ployed on the 132 children. The Canadian Dietary Standard (revised 1975) and Nutrition Canada categories were used for an evaluation of their dietary intake. -
Damodara Vrata
Damodara Vrata Dedicated to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness) Importance of Damodara-vrata In the Padma Purana there is a statement that one should perform the ceremonies for the Lord according to one's financial position. Everyone should observe the different ceremonies and celebrations of the Lord by all means. One of the most important of these ceremonial functions is called Urja-vrata. Urja-vrata (also known as Damodara-vrata) is observed in the month of Karthika (October-November); especially in Vrindavana, there is a specific programme for temple worship of the Lord in His Damodara form. In Sanskrit, dama means rope and udara means belly. Damodara refers to Krishna's being bound with a rope by His mother, Yashoda. It is said that just as Lord Damodara is very dear to His devotees, so the month known as Damodara or Karthika is also very dear to them. Devotees observe vows and undertake austerities in the month of Karthika to please the Supreme Lord. The Padma Purana records the following statement of Suta Gosvami: If anyone fasts and observes the Damodara-vrata according to the rules and regulations, the Yamadutas (the messengers of Yamaraja) run away from him. The performance of Damodara-vrata is better than performing one hundred great sacrifices as prescribed in the Vedic scriptures. Karthika is the best of the months and is very dear to Lord Sri Krishna. Srimati Radharani is the presiding Deity of this month. Any vrata observed in this month will yield more results and the effect of performing such vrata will last for one hundred life times. -

Food is fundamental need for everybody to live. Nutrition is an essential for sound life. A balanced and nutritious diet routine is important from the onset of life for development and advancement. With regards to younger students, it expect more prominent significance as earliest stages, youth and puberty are the times of development and improvement; the requirement of nutrition during these phases of advancement, in this way, is definitely more. Balanced and nutritious eating regimen is a fundamental contribution for keeping one healthy. Balanced Diet:- A balanced diet is the one which contains all the elements of food that are needed to keep one healthy. The balanced diet can be divided into two parts: the macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients: Macronutrients cover principally three components namely carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Carbohydrates and fat provides energy and heat. Proteins are critical for building of tissues, maintenance of the cellular integrity and functioning of the cells. Micronutrients: The micronutrients comprise of vitamins and minerals. They maintain tissues and regulate functions of the body. They also enhance the utilization of carbohydrates, proteins and fats by the body. Therefore, school children nutrients in large quantities for maintenance as well as for further growth. Concept of Aahara Shrimadbhagvadgita classifies three types of Yogic Diet The ancient yogis has characterized Aahara into three qualities namely, Sattvic, Rajsic and Tamasic. In like manner, each individual has three distinct qualities which are transcendent and decide the nature and likings of an individual. -

Eminent physicians and dietetic reformers of the present day are deeply interested in solving the great problem of wholesome food for human beings, and in introducing food reform in Western countries. Through their efforts thoughtful Americans are be- ginning to know something of the healthful effects of vegetarian diet, and to question whether they shall become vegetarians. This question has never been discussed in the West with so much earnestness as now. Among the ancient Greek philosophers we find strong advocates of vegetarianism in Pythagoras, Plato, Socrates, Seneca, Plutarch, Tertullian, Por- phyry and others; but the vast majority of Western people regard vegetarians with contempt and ridicule. In India this problem was solved by the Hindu phi- losophers long before Pythagoras was born, and in their writings we find logical and scientific arguments against the killing of animals and the eating of animal flesh. -
