How satisfied are you with the level of instruction your student(s) has receive from their teachers this year? 14.9% Very satisfied 64.3% Satisfied 16.2% Not satisfied 4.6% Not at all satisfied 6. What can we do to improve instruction? Actually allow in person interactions. Distance learning did not work. Maybe understand not all students will understand something at the same pace Have teachers be more considerate of students. Let more kids on independent study The kids aren't learning anything. Sticking them in front of a screen isn’t helping. Less work for the time being and what is happening in the world. Full time school When I am at school, I, along with many of my classmates, feel that we don’t learn anything while in class because there’s so little time. 34 minutes is barely enough to talk about everything that needs to be learned from our teachers. Longer school days would make learning much easier as we would have more time. Have a clear image of what they want to teach and teach more often. Let us come back full time. More understanding and easier teachings. There’s more work than learning. I'm not happy with a lot of the distance learning teaching. All the teachers do a good job but they're strained due to understaffing. More time in class, it is not the teachers fault, we just don´t have enough time I=to learn properly. With how short of classes this year, the teaching style is not helping me learn. We rush to learn as much as we can. Teachers do quick lectures just stating as much info as they can on the topic we are learning and I do not learn that way. I mainly just rush my assignments and do them before they do without any real learning. Honestly when I think about it not much as stuck in my brain this year. I learned things but the teaching style did not help me retain it. Hire an Engineering teacher. I don't think the instruction need any improvement. I like the schedule so far but perhaps a longer time in classes would be nice. Let us come back full time, I have missed out on my freshmen year because we have not gone full time. I know we can do it safely and in order, but we aren't. I just want to have my high school experience. Please.... Have the teachers be more strict, but also understanding so school doesn’t feel so optional, especially during these times where students lack of motivation. Make classes longer and more days. Two days and 30 minute classes is not enough for anything Give less work, or at least make sure we know how to do it before assigning it Ecosystem Teachers need to be more thorough in their teaching, and if a student is struggling STOP, go back, find the problem, and don't get angry at them for being slower. My experience if teachers teach too fast and won't go back if it's just you struggling. nothing really I just wish everything was normal I just wish that we don't use Oddesseyware. I don't like this program and I just wish the school just used google docs and google slides. The natural resources that a google account has. More time to meet. More time in class I think it would be helpful if each individual teacher in OHS or any of the other schools can provide videos for us when we get stuck, lost, or need to review a subject. Like using Apple Course on YouTube as a review / how to do video of how to answer and understand the subject a bit more. I think its fine but that’s because I haven’t had problems I’m satisfied. I don’t think there’s anything to improve. Go back 5 days Write them on google classroom as reminder. go back to school normally You can improve by having teachers be more considerate to grading. We need to go back to full in person school in order to get a full, good year of school. We can wear masks, have people sign waivers saying they won't sue if their child gets covid, and if parent don't want their children to go to school, provide a distance learning/homeschool option or the parents can find a different solution if that's not good enough for them. Have them teach more of the things they are teaching. Nothing It is steel going to suck anyway Certain teachers allow for space, time, and leniency. But others put a harder workload because of the school year ( w covid) It’s okay right now Do less Less Work. being able to work in groups Nothing you can do about it Allow students the option to do paperwork instead of online work. I’m good. I would like longer class periods but I understand why we cannot because of COVID. less work it is so stressful Update textbooks at independent study Some teachers don’t grade assignments until right before grades are due so we don’t know our grade and if we need to get it up or not I think things are alright right now. I like how the school is played out. Al the teachers are nice and they teach in a fun way that makes me enjoy doing school work and the work is sometimes easy and when it’s not I like talking to the teachers. Go back to normal schedule. No homework To improve instruction, I would in the future want an individual who is more qualified to teach rather than just a long term sub for a subject that is required for me to graduate. I felt like I did not learn anything in the class due to us not having a real teacher. Longer periods would also probably help because it feels like a lot of information to learn in a short amount of time, just to try to pass the class instead of actually being invested in learning the subject. More in-person instruction time so we can get help with our work because not everyone is willing to email their teacher or go to office hours to get help with their homework even if they really need it. Provide tutoring, better link crew members, finical aid department, let us go more days I don’t think Oroville High needs to improve anything. Upgrade grades regularly and not when the teachers feel like it because kids actually get in trouble for it. Maybe let the teachers go slower on work. Um I never learned anything Help teachers focus on learning more than just retaining knowledge. Get rid of masks I know you can't with Covid, but need more school get together where your forced to work with other people you don' t know. Instruction is well taught here. The school is fine the way it is. I don’t know I just want normal school back. Put the time for school back to normal. Take out Advisory and use that time for kids to get help in other classes and work on homework rather than using that time to discuss topics kids are not interested in besides the tax and credit portion we learned about 2 weeks ago More activities and spirit weeks at school. Get rid of the masks Nothing much There should be more fun things to do even though there is Covid. Not give so many assignments and expect them to be done at the end of the week because I get 6-8 assignments in each class. Also teachers need to start grading work. I am satisfied. I would learn a lot more if we went back to school 5 days a week. No homework Maybe make it more simple instead of posting stuff that would not even close to be on the test. Another thing maybe talk slower because all the teachers talk super fast and when you try to ask a question about like page 31 they would say you are too far behind and they would be on like page 204. Trying to get back to the normal school schedule as soon as possible. I don't like zoom Be there and make sure were getting things done. some of the teachers are not very good at explaining/assigning online work Teach us stuff that we will use when were older.

  • The Clash and Mass Media Messages from the Only Band That Matters
THE CLASH AND MASS MEDIA MESSAGES FROM THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS Sean Xavier Ahern A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2012 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Kristen Rudisill © 2012 Sean Xavier Ahern All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor This thesis analyzes the music of the British punk rock band The Clash through the use of media imagery in popular music in an effort to inform listeners of contemporary news items. I propose to look at the punk rock band The Clash not solely as a first wave English punk rock band but rather as a “news-giving” group as presented during their interview on the Tom Snyder show in 1981. I argue that the band’s use of communication metaphors and imagery in their songs and album art helped to communicate with their audience in a way that their contemporaries were unable to. Broken down into four chapters, I look at each of the major releases by the band in chronological order as they progressed from a London punk band to a globally known popular rock act. Viewing The Clash as a “news giving” punk rock band that inundated their lyrics, music videos and live performances with communication images, The Clash used their position as a popular act to inform their audience, asking them to question their surroundings and “know your rights.” iv For Pat and Zach Ahern Go Easy, Step Lightly, Stay Free. v ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This thesis would not have been possible without the help of many, many people.
