PERMANENT WATER-GUARD Permanent Water Guard Insert and Warranty Permanent Water-Guard is guaranteed for 25 washings in Sport-Wash. This is an extraordinary warranty that no other product makes - not even factory applied Durable Water Repellents. 1. Fabric must be washable and suitable for high heat with clothes dryer or iron per garment manufacturer's care tag. 2. Fabric must be nylon, dacron, polyester, cotton, or blends of these. Other fabrics such as wool, canvas, linen, etc. can be treated but the results vary. While we cannot guarantee long term results for of these applications, repellency will be superior to any competing system if instructions are followed. 3. The fabric must first be washed with Sport-Wash; without bleach, fabric softener, or other additives in a clean machine before application of Permanent Water-Guard. 4. To activate the polymers, garment must be dried in clothes dryer at the highest setting allowed by the manufacturer's care tag. Ironing at high heat will improve the bond. 5. Subsequent washings must be done ONLY with Sport-Wash in cold or warm water and ironed or dried in dryer. Permanent Water-Guard is a solvent free water based water and stain repellent. It dries odor free without UV brighteners. Sport-Wash and Sensi-Clean are the same product. They rinse free and leave no residue to reduce performance or irritate skin. Follow these instructions and over the life of the garment you will enjoy more performance and less maintenance by using Permanent Water-Guard and Sport-Wash or Sensi-Cleanresidue-free detergent. COMPLETE DIRECTIONS 1. Wash garment in residue free Sport-Wash or Sensi-Clean. This is critical to a permanent application. Oil, grease, dirt, and the residue of other detergents make it impossible for any Durable Water Repellent (DWR) to bond permanently to fabric. Only Sport-Wash andSensi- Clean remove everything and rinses completely. See Washing Tips. 2. Shake before using, apply Permanent Water-Guard by spraying exterior of garment till uniformly wet from 6-12" away. DO NOT INHALE MIST. 3. Hang garment upside down till dry as this will concentrate excess material on the top of the garment where it is needed most. See Clean-Up Tips. 4. Use clothes dryer or iron to activate the polymer. Iron or dry at the highest temperature allowed by the manufacturer's care tag. Heat causes the molecules of the polymer to activate and align for maximum repellency. See Activation Tips. Treated garment should only be washed in Sport-Wash or Sensi-Clean with cold or warm water. These detergents will remove contamination without harming the polymer. All other detergents leve residue that will cover the polymer and allow the water to soak into the fibers. Washing only in Sport- Wash or Sensi-Clean residue free detergents assures complete removal of dirt, detergent residue, and pollutants that destroy the effectiveness of the water repellent. After each washing, reactivate the polymer with a hot iron or dryer to improve water repellency. Garments with factory applied DWR: Many factory applied polymers are quite durable, but simply don't function because of contamination with detergent and other residues. After washing these with Sport-Wash or Sensi-Clean, try activating with clothes dryer or iron, and you may find that the repellency has returned. If not, simply continue with step 2 of the directions. Washing tips: On big items close all buttons, snaps, and zippers. Use a commercial front loader especially for sleeping bags, tents, and big coats. Home and Laundromat machines can be caked with detergent residue between the inner and outer drums. This residue can ruin your application of Permanent Water-Guard. To purge machine of residue run a load of clothes in Sport-Wash or Sensi-Clean or, 1) Fill machine with very hot water. 2) Let it soak for a few hours to loosen residue. 3) Run a cycle without clothes to rinse out the machine. Activation Tips: Permanence and maximum performance can only be guaranteed with heat activation of Permanent Water-Guard. If the garment manufacturer's care tag does not allow ironing or drying at high settings, maximize activation within care tag specifications by one of the following options: Ironing at a lower temperature, ironing thru a non-stick sheet, or tumbling in dryer at highest heat allowed. Dryer temperatures vary greatly. Some machines average below 150 degrees and some reach over 200 degrees. Temperature on cloth stays lower until drying is nearly complete. The activation and performance is determined by the maximum heat reached so use highest possible heat allowed by manufacturer's care instructions. Irons can reach higer temperatures than dryers. Activation depends upon Temperature and time. A wet garment in a dryer does not reach dryer temperature until it is dry. If you air dry it first you know the entire cycle is at dryer temperature. This is better than the limited dwell time of an iron. Hair Dryers range widely in the temperature but can be effective on large or cumbersome items such as luggage. Keep the Hair Dryer/iron moving. Be careful - ATSKO cannot be responsible for heat damage. Clean-Up Tips: Spraying and/or brushing and drip drying should be done where clean-up is easy like a melamine table, counter top, laundry tub, or floor covered with papers or card board. Spills, drips, over spray etc. can be cleaned up immediately with soap and water. Use old rags and paper towels as Permanent Water-Guard could make a good towel permanently non-absorbent. .
