“DT”: The Arizona Wildcats will honor legendary coach Dick Tomey throughout the season in a variety of ways. That will include wearing a “DT” sticker on their helmets to recognize Arizona’s all-time winningest coach. The Wildcats wore the sticker in the season opener against Hawai’i and again in the home opener against NAU. It’s a black circle sticker with a white border that says DT in the middle in white lettering. Tomey’s family was on hand for Arizona’s game against NAU and participated in the pregame coin toss, along with University President, Dr. Robert C. Robbins and the game’s honorary captain. The Tomey family also received a helmet during an in-game presentation, along with a video tribute to the late coach. Arizona will also honor Tomey later in the season for its Homecoming game against Oregon State. 10 2019 Arizona Football · Official Game Notes · Game 4 · Sept. 28 · vs. UCLA · Tucson, Ariz.

NEW STAFF MEMBERS: Coach Kevin Sumlin and the Wildcats welcomed two new position coaches to the fold this year in running backs coach DeMarco Murray and offensive line coach Kyle DeVan. Murray enters the coaching world after a brilliant seven-year professional career and a one-season stint in the broadcast booth. Murray rushed for 7,174 yards in his seven years in the NFL, playing for the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans. Murray was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. His connection to Sumlin goes back to his college days at Oklahoma. While Murray was one of the country’s best running backs for the Sooners, Sumlin served as the co-offensive coordinator in 2007 when Oklahoma won 11 games and won the Fiesta Bowl. DeVan joins the staff after three seasons at Ball State where he served as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach for two seasons. DeVan has also spent time with the New Orleans Saints for one season as an assistant offensive line coach and two seasons as a graduate assistant at USC and Oregon State. Like Murray, DeVan played in the NFL, playing for the Washington Redskins, New York Jets, , Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans. Devan started for the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

NFL CATS: The Arizona Wildcats are once again well represented in NFL with the new season set to begin this week. There are currently eight former Wildcats in the NFL, including Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles from last year’s roster, who was signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. The Wildcats of course lost one of their most prestigious alums in the NFL this offseason when Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement. The longest tenured NFL Wildcat is defensive lineman Earl Mitchell, who is preparing for his 10th professional season. Mitchell signed with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, marking the fourth different team of his career. Brooks Reed, who is entering his ninth season, and Nick Foles, beginning his eighth NFL season, also both switched teams this offseason. Reed moved from the Atlanta Falcons to the Arizona Cardinals, while Foles, a former Super Bowl MVP, moved from Philadelphia to Jacksonville. Reggie Gilbert was traded from Green Bay to Tennessee last month and has been reunited with former Wildcat teammate Dane Cruikshank, who is in his second season with the organization.
