Chairman of the Town Team, Dave Hunter is delighted with the work and achievements that the team have done so far and said, “A lot of hard work from the volunteers and people who are ready to try new things, experiment and innovate so that the high street becomes the place to be for local people and visitors alike.” Since the Town Team began they have also put on a number of events ranging the Olympic Torch to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the new car show and most recently the Monster Saturday event. This Christmas shoppers coming into the Town Centre will see brand new Christmas lights which the Town Team have managed to raise £20,000. The appeal involved raffle draws, competitions and grants from both the Town Council, the Bishop Auckland County Council- lors and the AAP. Clive Auld, chair of the Events Sub-group said, “It is important to note that we have a fabulous town. This is not an exaggerated assessment but a factual one. I am a local resident and I’m very proud of at being part of a vibrant group of volunteers that strive to put on successful events in the town. At this point in time we are preparing an events programme for the festive season to coincide with the unveiling of the new Christmas street lights.” One of the biggest projects this year was the launch of the new Bishop Auckland website - www.bishopaucklandtownteam.org Lee Brownson, chair of the Media Sub Group said, “Over the last year the Town Team have joined the social media world of twitter and Facebook however a new website was much needed so people have a ‘one-stop-shop’ to find out what’s happening in Bishop Auckland. Unlike other websites as the Town Team are a not-for-profit organisation all proceeds will be used to help put on events within the town to increase the footfall within the town and promote the website.” Bishop Auckland County Councillor, Joy Allen said, “As the newly elected County Councillor for Bishop Auckland I am delighted to be working with an enthusiastic team of volunteers. The Town Team have gone from strength to strength, due to the determination of local people who want to play an active role in making Bishop Auckland the market town of choice for local residents and visitors. The new website is amazing and showcases what our unique local businesses have to offer. I hope more and more people choose to shop local and visit the Town, by working together we can and will make a difference.” Tremendous support from the Town Team volunteers coming together with new ideas, new partners and a shared vision to revitalise the town will see the team become bigger and better in 2014.
