Bwogo ChepchumbaPacifica,Dr. Benson Nyanchongi, Dr. Rael Masai Kisii University, Corresponding Author: Bwogochepchumba Pacifica Abstract: Background: Ethnobotanical pharmacopoeia is importantly used in intervention of disease and need arises for documentation and preservation of tradition medicinal knowledge to boost the discovery of new drugs. Due to the emergence of drug resistance to malaria, there is a high possibility of development of resistance to ACT (that is the first line of treatment), thus a need for identification and development of new and novel therapeutic approaches. Herbs offer an opportunity for discovery and development of new chemically diverse antimalarial agents, however little documentation has been done. The first objective of the present study was to identify and document preferred medicinal plants used for treatment of malaria in Kericho East Sub- County. Methods: Field research was conducted in six Sub- Counties of Kericho County in Kenya namely Kipkelion East, Kipkelion West, Kericho West, Kericho East, Sigowet/Soin and Bureti. We randomly sampled 120 interviewees according to age, gender, occupation and level of education. Plant use data was collected through semi-structured questionnaires; transect walks, oral interviews and focus groups discussions. Voucher specimens of all cited botanic species were collected and deposited at National museum herbarium, Nairobi Botany department. Results Twenty medicinal plant species were yielded from the informants which are used to treat different symptoms and signs of malaria including; headache, fever, diarrhea, stomach-ache.

Diepeveen Politics in everyday Kenyan street-life: the people’s parliament in Mombasa, Kenya The presence of politics in everyday experiences is not new to the study of politics in Africa, located in popular arts, culture and dialogue. Yet, most often, attention to political possibilities in the everyday appears preoccupied with their relationship to rule and authority, making it difficult to imagine political significance outside of an influence on forms of dominance. Hannah Arendt’s early political thought provides an alternative way to imagine politics in everyday publics, separating politics from rule and locating it in public speech and action. Drawing on Arendt’s ideas around political significance of publics, this paper examines the nature and scope of political possibilities of a street parliament in Mombasa, Kenya. It reveals how possibilities for Arendtian political action are present in informal practices of public discussion, which are both contingent upon and compromised by competing interests, including elite and partisan competition.

THAT, Dagoretti South Constituency in Nairobi County has experienced perennial water supply challenge unlike the Constituencies in the bordering Kiambu County; 2. THAT, even though Dagoretti is within Nairobi County, residents have been relying on borehole water suppliers as the Government has failed to meet their water demand; 3. THAT, even with the Northern Collector Tunnel and other plans laid out in the Nairobi Water Master Plan by the Athi Water Service Board (AWSB), Nairobi County still cannot satisfy the water needs of its residents; 4. THAT, this challenge has occasioned the emergence and rise of private enterprises and initiatives which include borehole drilling; 5. THAT, there are over twenty-two (22) private borehole owners in Dagoretti South Constituency.
