Air Command Secretariat Spitfire Block Headquarters Air Command Royal Air Force High Wycombe Buckinghamshire HP14 4UE Ref: 11-02-2013-111718-013 Ms Phoebe Spence By e-mail: [email protected] 1 March 2013 Dear Ms Spence, Thank you for your email of 10 February which has been considered to be a request for information under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000; I have been asked to reply on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). You requested the following information: Please list the schools, academies and colleges located in the following Local Authorities that have been visited by the Royal Air Force since September 2010: Cheshire East, Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan. How many visits to each school? What was the nature of the visit – both the activity and the age groups involved? Also information as to whether there is a cadet force, or similar military/air cadet training offered at the school. I can confirm that the MOD holds the information you have requested. The table below sets out the number of visits to schools, academies and colleges in the specific local authorities, the nature of these visits and the age groups involved. The table also indicates those schools and academies which have Combined Cadet Force (RAF) Sections. The RAF, and the Armed Forces as a whole, never visit schools for recruitment purposes and would only ever visit a school after being invited by a teacher to support school activities. Similar contributions to schools are made by the Police, Fire, Ambulance and other emergency Services.

BEDE’S NEWS 22 March 2019 Tel: 0161 226 3323 www.sbcm.co.uk The Headmaster’s Review of the Week Dear Bedian family, As I write to you I am experiencing mixed emotions following my attendance at the U15 Plate Final of the Independent Schools National Netball Tournament which took place on Thursday of this week at Belle Vue Sports Village. Our heroic team lost 39-25 in a keenly fought contest and, although disappointed for all of those involved whether playing or coaching, I am incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievement to finish 2nd in a national competition which originally had around 150 schools entering. I am sure that the girls will go from strength to strength over the coming years and I would like to congratulate all of those involved in such a fantastic cup run this year. As you might have expected, the Netball squad are retrospectively the College’s “Team of the Week” and a surprise is in store for them next week in order to celebrate this accolade! The College’s theme this week is “Bearing Fruit”, though it could be argued that it is the permanent theme for all of us who are involved, whether as teaching or support staff, in the education of young people. We have all heard the words “Give me another chance!” and most of us are able to feel pity for and offer forgiveness to someone who has expressed sorrow or regret. We are reminded in this Sunday’s Gospel that God is merciful to us and always gives us another chance to bear fruit in our lives.
