Among the goals PET has accomplished are:(1) creating the Scholars Honors Program, which sent three of its first six participants to major universities with $40,000 scholarships;(2) thinking of ways to remove the dichotomy between transfer requirements and A.A. degree requirements, and encouraging students who want to transfer to consider earning an A.A. along the way;(3) designing a new, "common sense" course-numbering system to clarify requirements;(4) implementing the Transfer Awareness Week each October, when students are beginning the transfer application process; (5) enacting special articulation agreements beyond the California public institutions, including pacts with a number of historically Black institutions, and Biola University, a fundamentally Christian college where over 50 Cerritos College students are enrolled; and (6) offering faculty-led Best Teaching Practices workshops on such topics as technology, learning communities, and transfer preparation.

  • COMPTON COLLEGE 1 Benchmark and Dashboard Project
Running head: BENCHMARK AND DASHBOARD PROJECT: COMPTON COLLEGE 1 Benchmark and Dashboard Project: Compton College Sean Moore Pennsylvania State University BENCHMARK AND DASHBOARD PROJECT: COMPTON COLLEGE 2 Benchmark and Dashboard Project: Compton College Introduction In this paper, I selected Option 3: Create a Benchmark and Dashboard Report to compare Compton College to three other California Community Colleges located in Los Angeles County: El Camino College, Long Beach City College, and Cerritos College. The benchmarking rationale for comparing Compton College to these institutions is that they share the same institutional class, have geographical proximity, all offer vocational programs, and their students have similar demographic makeup. Compton College recently attained autonomous accreditation and will be improving and expanding its infrastructure over the next 5 years. These improvements will potentially provide growth opportunities in both student enrollment and staffing. Currently, Compton College is smaller than its local rivals and examining surrounding competition provides insight into unlocking the college’s potential. As a result, online data collected will provide a platform to build benchmarking graphs regarding significant indicators. Data from these indicators below will be helpful in the institution’s decision-making process regarding the size and type of infrastructure to build. These findings will be shared with the Compton College Infrastructure Committee. List of Specific Indicators a) Current size of student body enrollment b) Student–faculty ratio c) Number of degree programs through certificates and associates programs d) Size of campus by area BENCHMARK AND DASHBOARD PROJECT: COMPTON COLLEGE 3 Rational for Indicators The categorical and ordinal indicators above are important because they can be used to justify arguments for infrastructure improvements and growth.

The truth is, the visual arts have long been a vital and integral part of the local cultural scene, with generations of artists living and thriving here. These days, though, with so much art to experience throughout Greater Los Angeles, it's exceedingly apparent that Southern California isn't just attracting movie-industry dreamers — world-class visual artists are here to stay, too. Maybe it's the weather; maybe it's the light; maybe it's the wave of new local, national and even international art galleries opening their doors in L.A. One major factor, however, is undeniably SoCal's abundance of colleges and universities that take arts education so seriously that they've invested in impressive art galleries for the benefit of students and the public alike. In fact, we had some trouble narrowing the list of excellent on-campus art galleries to 15 — but we wanted to focus on not just the best but the more hidden gems that folks are least likely to know about.
