  • DRAMATURGY GUIDE School of Rock: the Musical the National Theatre January 16-27, 2019
DRAMATURGY GUIDE School of Rock: The Musical The National Theatre January 16-27, 2019 Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber Book by Julian Fellowes Lyrics by Glenn Slater Based on the Paramount Film Written by Mike White Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and all the original songs from the movie Packet prepared by Dramaturg Linda Lombardi Sources: School of Rock: The Musical, The Washington Post ABOUT THE SHOW Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to earn a few extra bucks. To live out his dream of winning the Battle of the Bands, he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching the students what it means to truly rock, something happens Dewey didn’t expect... they teach him what it means to care about something other than yourself. For almost 200 years, The National Theatre has occupied a prominent position on Pennsylvania Avenue – “America’s Main Street” – and played a central role in the cultural and civic life of Washington, DC. Located a stone’s throw from the White House and having the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site as it’s “front yard,” The National Theatre is a historic, cultural presence in our Nation’s Capital and the oldest continuously operating enterprise on Pennsylvania Avenue. The non-profit National Theatre Corporation oversees the historic theatre and serves the DC community through three free outreach programs, Saturday Morning at The National, Community Stage Connections, and the High School Ticket Program.

  • Announcing a VIEW from the BRIDGE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE “One of the most powerful productions of a Miller play I have ever seen. By the end you feel both emotionally drained and unexpectedly elated — the classic hallmark of a great production.” - The Daily Telegraph “To say visionary director Ivo van Hove’s production is the best show in the West End is like saying Stonehenge is the current best rock arrangement in Wiltshire; it almost feels silly to compare this pure, primal, colossal thing with anything else on the West End. A guileless granite pillar of muscle and instinct, Mark Strong’s stupendous Eddie is a force of nature.” - Time Out “Intense and adventurous. One of the great theatrical productions of the decade.” -The London Times DIRECT FROM TWO SOLD-OUT ENGAGEMENTS IN LONDON YOUNG VIC’S OLIVIER AWARD-WINNING PRODUCTION OF ARTHUR MILLER’S “A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE” Directed by IVO VAN HOVE STARRING MARK STRONG, NICOLA WALKER, PHOEBE FOX, EMUN ELLIOTT, MICHAEL GOULD IS COMING TO BROADWAY THIS FALL PREVIEWS BEGIN WEDNESDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 21 OPENING NIGHT IS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12 AT THE LYCEUM THEATRE Direct from two completely sold-out engagements in London, producers Scott Rudin and Lincoln Center Theater will bring the Young Vic’s critically-acclaimed production of Arthur Miller’s A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE to Broadway this fall. Washington, D.C. 20530 Re: Producers Guild of America Business Review Letter Request To the Assistant Attorney General: We are writing on behalf of our client, the Producers Guild of America, to request a business review letter with respect to the proposed use of the "p.g.a" certification mark owned by the Producers Guild of America ("PGA"). The "p.g.a" certification mark has been approved for registration by the United States Patent and Trademark Office subject only to proof of use in commerce. (A true and correct copy of the USPTO Web site records reflecting the status and ownership of the "p.g.a" certification mark is annexed as Exhibit A.) Because so many persons now receive producer credits for so many reasons, even cinephiles often find it impossible to determine which person(s) performed the functions of a producer with respect to a given motion picture. The use of the PGA's certification mark would make the persons who truly performed a producer's duties with respect to a given movie easily identifiable. Financiers, actors, lawyers, and others have long demanded a "producer" credit in exchange for their help making motion pictures, both in the United States and abroad.

  • The US Film Industry
Jono Polansky, Onbeyond LLC August 2020 _____________________________________________________________________________________________ This SFM guide to who owns what in the US screen entertainment industry — movies, broadcast, cable and streaming — has been updated to reflect developments in tobacco content and changes in corporate ownership. We put this map together so public health experts, parents, young people and policy makers can identify who decides if smoking shows up in entertainment accessible to kids. The US film industry MAJOR STUDIOS | The US feature film industry is dominated by five “major studio” distributors. In 2019, their top-grossing films accounted for 81 percent of all youth-rated tobacco impressions delivered to domestic theater audiences. The studios develop, finance, and market film projects domestically and worldwide. Almost all films with production budgets greater than $50 million are major studio films. Studios may not break even on theatrical showings of a film, but a film’s box office, split roughly 50-50 with the theaters, strongly predicts the revenue the studio keeps to itself when the film is later released on DVD and licensed to on-demand, cable, and broadcast services. Most studio revenue comes from those “long tail” after-markets. In addition, 70 percent of US studios’ theatrical revenue now comes from outside the United States, which helps explain why easy-to-sell “franchise” films are prized by major studios. The major studios are represented by a trade group, the Motion Picture Association (MPA), dominate its board of directors. The MPA owns and administers the movie ratings (G/PG/PG-13/R,NC-17), with a nod to the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), which plays a role in enforcing age restrictions.
