Our students as our pep song states are: “rough and ready.” We could not be Sincerely, more proud of our graduates and their families for the grit and fortitude they have displayed during these difficult times. Nothing illustrates this better than how the Olean City School District and the Olean community pulled together to face perhaps our country’s greatest challenge in its history, as we faced COVID-19. Sunday, March 15th, a day of rest, Rick Moore found the Olean City School District’s Administrative Council meeting for hours to devise a plan that would first take care of our students and their families. Second, we wanted to ensure our students’ education was continued. Together we developed and implemented a plan to help and teach remotely to ensure all of our students and family’s educational needs were met.

A Day at Hogwarts Cari Matejka’s class read Harry Potter on Zoom. They dressed up for “Hogwarts” when they had class. In Science, they studied Properties of Matter - and used that to make potions. They made an edible creative concoction that helped them write to the sorting hat to persuade him which house they should be in.

Many of our husky pups stepped up to the plate, receiving their own cuddly pup pal as a reward for completing the challenge. Check out some of their adventures! Washington West Elementary School
