These sessions became know as kitchen parties. Through the variation of multiple instruments and multiple styles of music celtic music has evolved into fantastic high energy dance music. As more people joined the “Kitchen Party” the more energetic the music would become. Featuring: The Taphouse Trio The Taphouse Trio comprises of Phil Duke on Fiddle, Jack Haggarty on Banjo and Brodhran and Jim Dacey on guitar, Irish Pipes and vocal. The boys are also part of the group who play Weekly at the Breakwater Taphouse. The Taphouse Trio mixes original songs with high energy Celtic dance music, a sure fire hit where ever they play. Phil Duke and Clay Breiland Phil Duke and Clay Breiland are a dynamic duo that fuse the elements of old-time, celtic, folk and Jazz to create there own sound. Kam Valley Fiddlers For over twenty-five years, the KAM VALLEY FIDDLERS program has been teaching traditional and contemporary fiddle music to young string musicians and providing opportunities to perform in public, at festivals, concerts, weddings, hospitals and seniors' homes, and fiddle contests ....wherever folks enjoy "wicked good fiddling!”. There were a number of deals offering two tickets for the price of one in the final days before last month’s Bon Jovi concert at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, which attracted about 33,000 fans. And before last weekend’s Virgin Festival in Halifax became a free event, promoters said those who had bought a ticket could bring a friend for free. About 10,000 showed up for that event. But Greg Cox of Power Promotional Events said Monday there were no deals in the works to buy one ticket and get one free for this concert. (His firm was not involved in either the Bon Jovi concert or Virgin Festival.) "I am not aware of anything (like that)," he said in an interview Monday. He said Coke Zero is offering two adult tickets, two tickets for children under 12 and some Coke promotional product for $250, plus service charges. The promoter said there are plenty of reasons to catch the show — Sir Paul’s only Canadian performance this year. "Paul McCartney at 67 is not likely going to make it back to Halifax again," Mr. Cox said. "There’s too many other places in the world that he’s never played that he would like to play.

They are two different worlds. I built New Scotland Yard so I could have place to work from that is close to home when I'm not touring. On Sunday, September 28, 18 members of the Centretown United Church, 507 Bank Street, celebrated the church’s sixth anniversary by carrying out the “ice bucket challenge” in support of ALS. The church houses the Centretown Emergency Food Centre and Centre 507, an adult drop-in centre.     Preface to the 5th Edition This book and the Guitar Club that went with it started because one of my old counsellors put a few guitar chords into the official camp song book. Those chords were the reason I learned to play. That summer, when we were last-year campers, regular activities were cancelled one day because of stormy weather. We all piled into the lodge, where we sat with Ryley and her guitar, singing all afternoon. It was the first time a lot of us had ever sung our favourite camp songs with a guitar. At the time, I'd never even heard recordings of most of them. (This is before Napster, kids.) I remain ever thankful that we didn't play Rainy Day Bingo that afternoon. At the end of the summer I started writing in chords for the rest of the song book, which gradually led to the first edition of The Mi-A-Kon-Da Guitar Book. Since then, this book's seen a few new places and met a lot of new songs. It seemed about time to give it a name that would bring everything and everyone together. Turtle Rock does just this. On Birch Island, it's where the whole camp meets after lights out on Mi-A-Kon-Da night to sing quiet songs by the fire, listen to the camp legend, and watch the full moon rise over the lake. It's also where we meet for special cook-outs, reflections, and early in the morning to watch that bittersweet Last Sunrise of the Summer.

    POLARIS MUSIC PRIZE ANNOUNCES 2009 GALA DETAILS.
