PAGE 2 Te Awamutu Courier, Tuesday, September 27, 2005 Cracker craft fair bursting at seams By Cathy Asplin The crowd in Pirongia’s main street on Saturday looked more like what you would expect in a city. Huge numbers perused the record 190 stalls, ate their way through all the food on offer and pushed sales through the roof for many vendors. Pirongia Craft Fair committee person Kathy Boggiss says many stall holders lingered longer than they nor- mally would, making the most of the bumper crowd “There were a lot of very happy stall holders heading home on Saturday. We had a massive amount of people, which meant many food stalls sold out completely. “The weather of course had a huge infl uence on the event - we were lucky to have such a nice day.” Roads around the village were full of vehicles, as well as two car parks set up at Pirongia School and the Pirongia rugby grounds. Regular stall holder Paddy Troy of Trojan Furniture estimates around 15,000 people visited the 2005 fair. “Sales were certainly up for me this year and there was plenty of interest in the dog shower. More sales are likely to follow as a result of contacts made on the day.” Keith Lang from the Persimmon Tree Cafe says it was CRAIG Irwin (above) takes his labrador Jack to check out a case of all hands on deck on Saturday.
