St Philips has submitted representations to the Issues and Options stage of the South Staffordshire Local Plan Review (Appendix 2) and a copy of a Vision Document showing how the site at Bratch Common Road could be developed is enclosed for information (Appendix 3). As promised in the last volume of the Marriage Registers of Derbyshire, the marriage records of St. Alkmund's form the first instalment of the Registers of the County Town. The Editors do not doubt that these will prove especially interesting to Derbyshire people. In Volume V they hope to print further instalments of town registers in the shape of those of St. Michael's and also some village registers. It will be noticed that St. Alkmund's register begins at the earliest possible date, 1538, but of the remainder, two do not start till the seventeenth century and one, that of Quarndon, synchronizes with the passing of Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act. 1379092 It will be convenient to give here a list of the Derby- shire parishes of which the Registers have been printed in this series: Volume I. Inventories such as this often accompanied wills at this date, and are a window into the lives of our ancestors, as they list personal and everyday household items alongside other property. They can exist even where no last will or testament was made. The inventory itself is written in English, though at this date the rest of the wording was still in Latin. A document pertaining to a transfer of a half share in the profits arising from tolls collected for the Sedgley 'Old Line of Road' between Sarah Hall and Abel Fletcher, dated 3rd January 1856. Sarah Hall was the widow of Benjamin Hall, a wheelwright and barrow maker who died in 1851 aged just 39. They had been renting a cottage near the corner of Bilston Street and High Street from Abel Fletcher who had his steam flour mill there. Sarah evidently owned a half share in the interest from the tolls, while Mary Ann Sherwood named in the deed (a relative of Sarah's husband) owned the other half share. -

WALSALL OBSERVER 1900 to 1911 1 24 February 1900 WALSALL POLICE COURT BOATMAN SENT TO GAOL Henry Benton (26), labourer of 6 Upper Navigation Street, was charged with stealing a set of boat harness, valued £2 10s, from the stable of the Junction Inn, Bridgeman Street, on February 14th. Luke Dovey, a boatman, Mill Street, Birmingham, stated that on the morning of the day named he took a boat from Birmingham to Walsall, the horse wearing the harness named in the charge. When he got to the Junction Inn he put the horse up, owing to excess of traffic on the canal. At about two o'clock the next morning he went to get the horse out again, and found the harness gone. Detective Haycock stated that he made inquiries respecting the robbery, and visited the house of prisoner, where he found the harness in the front bedroom. Witness asked prisoner how he accounted for it, and he said, “My boss will account for it”. Prisoner pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two months' hard labour. 2 7 April 1900 BENTLEY BAD FOR THE CYCLIST At the Willenhall Police Court on Monday, John Day, a boatman of Bentley, was fined 5s and costs for allowing a horse to stray in Walsall Road on the night of the 25 th March. Arthur Bunn of Coseley stated that he was riding a bicycle from Walsall to Coseley when he ran into the horse and was thrown, damaging himself and the machine. 3 28 April 1900 WALSALL POLICE COURT THEFT BY A LAD OF ELEVEN Joseph Lee (11), 72 Pleck Road, was charged with stealing 1 1/2 cwts of coal, value 1s 6d, the property of the British and Colonial Horse Shoe Company, on the 10 th inst. -

The implications of this consultation, on which the Department for Transport will decide the best franchise regional train operator, are enormous. The process is much more than asking for service improvements, it is framing SLUG campaigns in a persuasive way. By the time of submission on March 15th, the SLUG document underwent seven revisions after thorough and thoughtful debate. Preparation for the SLUG response has involved various liaison events including presentations at Worcester County Hall (attended by myself and William Whiting) and Birmingham Council House (attended by Roger Davis). Other stakeholders at these meetings have included fraternal Rail User Groups, Centro officers and Worcestershire County Councillors. These parties have been valuable allies who have reinforced SLUG campaigns and general objectives for improved connectivity. Question and answer sessions have, on the whole, been constructive and productive on various levels. Unofficial sources suggest that there are at least eight interested companies or consortiums prepared to bid for operating trains within the West Midlands Rail Franchise.
