The Emmet Mullins-trained gelding is a useful staying handicapper on the Flat having won the Cesarewitch in fine style at the Curragh and there was plenty to like about his hurdle debut at Punchestown. The son of Champs Elysees showed a slick jumping technique and, while the bare form of that 2m4f maiden is nothing to get excited about, he looks an exciting prospect. Willie Mullins has a really strong four-pronged challenge with riding arrangements suggesting Gaillard Du Mesnil is preferred. The form of his course maiden win at Christmas has worked out particularly well. Gentlemansgame won a Cork maiden in runaway fashion and has loads of potential, while Ashdale Bob and Fakiera are others to consider having filled the first two places in a 2m4f Navan Grade 2.

ATR VERDICT: CHACUN POUR SOI and Min finished first and second in this race 12 months ago and it would certainly be no surprise if history repeated itself. The selection was a last minute scratching from the Champion Chase at Cheltenham last year due to a stone bruise and is a hot favourite to make amends next month having readily won both outings this season. Min won the previous two runnings of this race and, having gained a deserved Cheltenham Festival success in the Ryanair Chase last March, completed a hat-trick of wins in the 2m4f John Durkan Chase at Punchestown last time. He's a gelding of the highest quality but just appears to lack the gears of his stablemate. Notebook appears soundly held on running here at Christmas, while Fakir D'Oudairies drops down significantly in trip but hasn't shown much spark this term.

ATR VERDICT: Another Grade 1 in which Willie Mullins appears to hold most of the aces, although tactics will be interesting with plenty of front-runners. ENERGUMENE is taken to make it three from three over fences this season. The point-to-point winner has really impressed this term easily winning over 2m4f at Gowran Park and again made all and jumped well when accounting for Captain Guinness over two miles at Naas last month. Unexcepted is a half-brother to the exciting front-running chaser Great Field and made an impressive start over fences at Tipperary back in October. Franco De Port is the only Grade 1 winner over fences in the line-up having finished strongly to beat Darver Star and Felix Desjy over course and distance at Christmas. Darver Star would prefer better ground, while Felix Desjy was a Grade 1 winner over hurdles at Aintree and is another that likes to force the pace.

ATR VERDICT: Gigginstown House Stud and J P McManus have four runners apiece, whilst Chris Jones goes with Ordinary World and Mitchouka. Like these owners there are trainers with multiple representation as well, with Henry de Bromhead sending out five, Joseph O'Brien three, Gordon Elliott three (and a reserve), Jessica Harrington two and Willie Mullins two. The last-named may provide the answer to a difficult looking puzzle as Closutton's PONT AVEN makes some appeal in a first-time hood. Danny Mullins' mount has been showing up well in similar events, and if he had relaxed through the race he'd likely have finished off better than he did at Fairyhouse last month, when eventually second to Daly Tiger. Previous to that Pont Aven had been a big eye-catcher when fourth here at Christmas. Mullins' nephew Emmet has a strong contender in Greatwood Hurdle hero, and first-time handicap chase participant, The Shunter. Keep the likes of Entoucas, Epson Du Houx and Aramax in mind as well.

ATR VERDICT: Last year's winner HONEYSUCKLE is taken on by Willie Mullins' three, and Gordon Elliott's pair, Abacadabras, and the 2020 bronze medallist, Petit Mouchoir. If you've been inclined to take on Honeysuckle, she's teased you a few times, flirting with defeat recently and getting home by narrow margins. This observer was of a mind to be in the 'lay' camp when it comes to the unbeaten Sulamani mare on this occasion, but not now on a surface forecast to be soft to heavy. She obviously stays a lot further than two miles, but this trip on testing terrain might be an ideal assignment for the seven-year-old. Sharjah didn't bring his best to the table when sixth here in 2020. It'll be a surprise if better isn't forthcoming from the course-and-distance specialist now, off his Matheson Hurdle win. All the others have their work cut out to turn the tables with Sharjah on that form. In fairness to Abacadabras he scoped bad after that outing, and he's reportedly been pleasing in his home work lately.

ATR VERDICT: Willie Mullins' has six chances here, but even with that he can't match J P McManus' seven, and the pair combine through Blue Sari and CIEL DE NEIGE. Mullins has third reserve Hybery too, whilst also strong on numbers are Gordon Elliott with four, Joseph O'Brien two and Henry de Bromhead two. Noel Meade depends on Hes A Hardy Bloke, and first reserve Jesse Evans. Charles Byrnes goes for four on the trot after dual successes for Off You Go (2018 and 2019), and Thosedaysaregone (2020), so it's not difficult to see why Advanced Virgo heads early betting lists, after a Fairyhouse win in November. Many others need considering including the likes of Drop The Anchor, Eskylane, The Moyglass Flyer and last year's runner-up Golden Jewel. However, Ciel De Neige just looks in a good place right now, after gaining his maiden win, and he can show the benefit of his experiences in these big-field handicaps in the past.

ATR VERDICT: Gordon Elliott had been pondering going straight to Cheltenham with Sir Gerhard, and it seems that's the action he's going to take with the exciting Jeremy gelding. Elliott depends on Chemical Energy here, and that very promising unbeaten chestnut is much respected. The Mastersons and Willie and Patrick Mullins landed this a year ago through Appreciate It, and they could repeat the dose with a horse that probably means a little bit more than most to the team at Closutton, KILCRUIT. Bred at Doninga by Maureen Mullins, the Stowaway gelding is the pick of Patrick, ahead of Ramillies and Whatdeawant. Of course the record breaking amateur rider also triumphed on Noble Yeats for his cousin Emmet, and friend Paul Byrne last time. It'll be a watch and learn race for some punters, and that might not be a bad approach, but Kilcruit may just about top a field chock full of potential top- notchers.
