The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1 with New York Rangers Legend Stéphane Matteau, who will mingle with fans, sign autographs and cheer the Rangers on as they face off against the Montreal Canadiens. Previous New York Rangers hosts over the years have included legendary goaltender Mike Richter, Adam Graves, Steve Vickers, Nick Fotiu and others. Most Rangers fans remember Matteau for his game-winning wraparound goal in double overtime of Game 7 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the New Jersey Devils that helped pave the way for the Rangers first Stanley Cup championship in over 54 years. More recently, Matteau has dedicated his time giving back to local communities, including partnering with the Woodlawn Student Leadership & Legacy Program in the Bronx, which provides mentorship opportunities with notable figures. The viewing parties, held inside of Dan Rooney’s Sports Pub, are FREE for all to attend and begin 30-minutes before the puck drops. Hungry fans can enjoy $5 game-time specials, including Budweiser, wings, pigs-in-a-blanket and more. Joining Matteau for the festivities will be the Rangers Blue Crew, who will put fans to the test with Rangers trivia and offer an array of Rangers swag as giveaways during each intermission. “It may not be the world’s most famous arena, but it’ll sure feel like it at one of the premier entertainment destinations in the Northeast, with hundreds of passionate Rangers fans rooting for their home team,” said Taryn Duffy, vice president of corporate communications & public affairs at Empire City Casino. “For the fourth year in a row, we are bringing fans up close and personal with some of hockey’s all-time greats.     BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

    Procedures to new PIHL RULE 8.3.E: VARSITY OVERTIME – In the event the game is tied at the end of regulation; 1) Teams play an additional overtime period of not more than three (3) minutes with the team scoring first declared the winner and being awarded an additional point. 2) The overtime period will be played with each team at 3-on-3 manpower (plus goaltender) for the full three-minute period. 3) There will be no intermission between the end of the third period and the beginning of the overtime period. 3-on-3 play will begin immediately once the referee is ready. 4) Goalies will not switch ends and remain in their 3rd period end for the entire overtime. 5) Manpowers during overtime will be adjusted to reflect the situation in the game, but at no time will a team have fewer than three (3) skaters on the ice during the overtime period. For example, if a team enters the overtime period on a power play, manpower would be adjusted from 5 on 4 at the end of regulation to 4 on 3 at the start of overtime. If a minor penalty is assessed during overtime, the teams will play 4 on 3. If a second minor penalty is assessed to the same team during overtime, the teams will play 5 on 3. 6) Clubs who pull their goaltender for an extra attacker during the overtime period (other than on a delayed penalty) will be subject to the potential forfeiture of their one (1) point earned for the tie at the end of regulation in the event the opposing team scores into the empty net.

The Jets and Flames each have participated in one prior outdoor game, both under the Heritage Classic umbrella. Winnipeg played host to the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field, falling 3-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. Nine Jets players who appeared in that game remain with the team: Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor Hellebuyck, Patrik Laine, Adam Lowry, Josh Morrissey, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Current Calgary goaltender Cam Talbot started for Edmonton in that contest, stopping all 31 shots he faced for the third shutout in outdoor NHL game history. Current Jets forward Mark Letestu scored the winning goal (while shorthanded), as a member of the Oilers. And current Flames forward Milan Lucic recorded two penalty minutes for Edmonton. Calgary served as hosts for the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-0. Two players who appeared in that game remain with the Flames: Mikael Backlund and Mark Giordano. Overall, the Jets feature 11 players who have participated in a prior outdoor NHL game (minimum: 1 GP in 2019-20), while the Flames have four.     Weekend with a Legend Participate in the Ultimate Hockey Fan Experience and spend the weekend playing with some of hockey’s greatest Legends. This experience will allow you to draft your favorite hockey Legend to become apart of your team for the weekend. This means they will play in all of your scheduled tournament games, hang-out in the dressing room sharing stories of their careers, and take in the nightlife with the team.
