Health Hazards

The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract (as classified by EC Directives using animal Inhaled models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting.

The material has NOT been classified by EC Directives or other classification systems as 'harmful by ingestion'. This is because of the lack of Ingestion corroborating animal or human evidence.

The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified by EC Directives using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. Skin Contact Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material Entry into the blood-stream, through, for example, cuts, abrasions or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. Examine the skin prior to the use of the material and ensure that any external damage is suitably protected.

Direct contact of the eye with ethanol (alcohol) may cause an immediate stinging and burning sensation, with reflex closure of the lid, and a Eye temporary, tearing injury to the cornea together with redness of the conjunctiva. Discomfort may last 2 days but usually the injury heals without treatment.

This material can cause serious damage if one is exposed to it for long periods. It can be assumed that it contains a substance which can Chronic produce severe defects.

Description of first aid measures

If this product comes in contact with the eyes: Wash out immediately with fresh running water. Ensure complete irrigation of the eye by keeping eyelids apart and away from eye and moving the eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper Eye Contact and lower lids. Seek medical attention without delay; if pain persists or recurs seek medical attention. Removal of contact lenses after an eye injury should only be undertaken by skilled personnel.

If skin or hair contact occurs: Skin Contact Flush skin and hair with running water (and soap if available). Seek medical attention in event of irritation.

If fumes, aerosols or combustion products are inhaled remove from contaminated area. Inhalation Other measures are usually unnecessary.

Immediately give a glass of water. Ingestion First aid is not generally required. If in doubt, contact a Poisons Information Centre or a doctor.

Advise for rescue team (PPE requirement for rescue personnel)

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Treat symptomatically.

SECTION 5 FIREFIGHTING MEASURES

Extinguishing media Alcohol stable foam. Dry chemical powder.

Special hazards arising from the substrate or mixture

Fire Incompatibility Avoid contamination with oxidising agents i.e. nitrates, oxidising acids, chlorine bleaches, pool chlorine etc. as ignition may result

Advice for firefighters

Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard. Fire Fighting May be violently or explosively reactive.

Liquid and vapour are highly flammable. Severe fire hazard when exposed to heat, flame and/or oxidisers. Combustion products include: Fire/Explosion Hazard carbon monoxide (CO) carbon dioxide (CO2) other pyrolysis products typical of burning organic material.

SECTION 6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures See section 8

Measures for Preventing Secondary Contamination Refer to section above

Environmental precautions See section 12

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Remove all ignition sources. Minor Spills Clean up all spills immediately.

Clear area of personnel and move upwind. Major Spills Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard.

Personal Protective Equipment advice is contained in Section 8 of the SDS.

SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for safe handling

Limit all unnecessary personal contact. Safe handling Wear protective clothing when risk of exposure occurs.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Suitable container PET container.

Avoid oxidising agents, acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, chloroformates. Storage incompatibility Avoid strong bases.

SECTION 8 EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Control parameters

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OEL) INGREDIENT DATA Not Available

Exposure controls

Appropriate engineering Engineering controls are used to remove a hazard or place a barrier between the worker and the hazard. Well-designed engineering controls can controls be highly effective in protecting workers and will typically be independent of worker interactions to provide this high level of protection.

Personal protection

Safety glasses with side shields. Eye and face protection Chemical goggles.

Skin protection See Hand protection below

Wear chemical protective gloves, e.g. PVC. Hands/feet protection Wear safety footwear or safety gumboots, e.g. Rubber
