This presentation identifies the awards that can be presented to those individuals that provide adult leadership at all levels in the various programs of the .

Those in the Scouting program have the permission of the author to use this power point presentation for the purpose of illustrating to the Scouting community the awards and recognitions that are available to adult Scouters.

This presentation is based upon information available as of November 2013. Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Awards and Recognitions A square knot is the symbol that is worn on the Scouting uniform for many of the awards that are included in this presentation. In addition, the recognition for some of the awards may include an emblem suspended from a ribbon that is worn around the neck, an emblem that is suspended from a ribbon and pinned to the uniform, a pin, a bolo tie, a plaque, a certificate, or a device that is attached to a square knot. As applicable, the square knot, device, pin, or emblem is displayed in the upper right of the slide.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Den Leader Training Award

The criteria for this award includes completing training (For example: This is Scouting, Fast Start Orientation, Youth Protection, and Cub Den Leader Specific Training.), performance requirements that are specific to this Scouting position, as well as a minimum tenure of one year.

This award can be earned by: Tiger Den Leaders, Wolf/Bear Den Leaders, and Webelos Den Leaders. The award can be earned once for each of the three den leader experiences. The applicable device is worn on the square knot.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Training Award The criteria for this award includes completing training (For example: This is Scouting, Fast Start Orientation, youth protection, and leader specific training for your position.), performance requirements that are specific to the Scouting position in which the individual is registered, as well as a minimum tenure of two years.

This award can be earned as a Boy Scout Leader, Leader, Leader, Leader, Varsity Scout Leader, Roundtable Commissioner Staff, members of District Committees, or members of the Council Executive Board, and the applicable program device may be worn on the square knot. This award can be earned once in each Scouting Program.

Scouter’s Key Award The criteria for this award includes completing training (For example: This is Scouting, Fast Start Orientation, youth protection, and leader specific training for your position.), performance requirements that are specific to the Scouting position in which the individual is registered, as well as a minimum tenure of three years.

The awards can be earned while serving as a Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, Venturing Advisor, Sea Scout Skipper, Varsity Scout Coach, Commissioner, District Committee Member or Council Executive Board Member. The applicable program device may be worn on the square knot. This award can be earned once in each Scouting Program.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Arrowhead Honor Award

The Arrowhead Honor Award is a prerequisite for the Commissioner’s Key, Distinguished Commissioner Award, and the Doctorate of Commissioner Science Award. The requirements for this award include training specific to your commissioner position, as well as completing performance criteria that are specific to your commissioner position.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Doctorate of Commissioner Science The purpose of this award is to recognize those active commissioners that complete a standardized program of training, that includes the preparation of a thesis or project, and the award of the Doctorate of Commissioner Science Degree from a College of Commissioner Science.

There are performance, tenure, education, and training requirements that must also be satisfied.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Masters The purpose of this award is to offer continuing educational opportunities so that Scouters have incentives to return, over a number of years, to take advanced training at the Center, and to be able to take their knowledge back to units, districts, councils, and council clusters, as well as, area, regional, national and international venues in order to benefit Scouts and Scouters.

The requirements for this award are to attend a training course at the Philmont Training Center, attend a second course or teach a course at Philmont Training Center, recruit three people to attend a training course at PTC, and teach a Scouting course in your district, council, area, region, or other Scouting venue. A device is available for completing additional recruiting and teaching requirements.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Wood Badge is an advanced training program in the skills of leadership for all adult leaders in the Boy Scouts of America. This training program is conducted in two parts. The first is an advanced outdoor training experience that is presented over two long weekends, or as a week-long course. The second part is the application phase, during which the leaders apply the skills that they learned to their specific Scouting position. This second phase is commonly referred to as “working your ticket.”

Upon successful completion of both phases, the Scouter is recognized with Wood Badge beads, , and .

Created in 1919 at , Wood Badge became an integral part of the training program of the BSA in 1948.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Wood Badge Staff Scouters that have served as a member of a Wood Badge staff are permitted to wear three Wood Badge Beads. Those Scouters that have served as a Wood Badge Course Director are permitted to wear four Wood Badge beads.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Seabadge is an advanced training experience for adult leaders in the Sea Scouting program. The purposes of the Seabadge experience are: to improve the understanding of leadership, management and motivational skills among Sea Scout adult leaders, and to provide management, leadership, and presentation skills and tools to leaders so that they may use and share them with others in their day-to-day Sea Scout activities.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Seabadge Underway

Seabadge Underway is an advanced leadership training course for adult leaders in the Sea Scouting program that is conducted with the participants carrying out the roles of Sea Scout youth aboard a vessel that is underway.

It is the mission of this course to provide basic training for adult leaders in the Sea Scouting program in order to teach and prepare members of their ship for the safe operation of a Sea Scout vessel underway in moderate conditions.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Powder Horn Powder Horn is a high adventure course that is designed to teach Venturing, Boy Scout, and Varsity Scout leaders how to safely conduct high adventure outdoor activities that are fun and challenging. The course is also intended to help adult leaders to use their resources to guide their units to have successful high adventure programs.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Unit Leader Award of Merit

This award can be presented to a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Coach or Advisor. The unit committee is responsible for nominating the unit leader for this award. For Boy Scout troops, Varsity Scout teams, and Venture crews, the nomination must include an endorsement by the senior patrol leader, team captain, or crew president.

The nominee must complete certain performance, tenure, and training requirements prior to the nomination being submitted.

The applicable program device may be worn on the square knot. This award can be earned once in each Scouting Program.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Commissioner Award of Excellence in Unit Service Presented after two consecutive years of active service as a unit commissioner, completion of the commissioner basic training program.

Other requirements include the visiting each unit at least six times per year, six additional contacts with each unit per year, charter presentations to units, Journey to Excellence progress reviews, participation in at least one commissioner service training activity, as well as other performance criteria.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer Award

This award is presented to the one individual that was responsible for organizing a new Cub Scout Pack, Boy , Sea Scout Ship, or Venture Crew.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Whitney Young, Jr. Service Award

The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award is presented to recognize the outstanding services provided by an adult or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for youth in rural or low-income urban areas.

¡Scouting…Vale La Pena! Service Award

The ¡Scouting…Vale la Pena! Service Award is presented to recognize the outstanding services provided by an adult or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for Hispanic- American and Latino youth.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Asian American Spirit of Scouting Service Award The Asian American Spirit of Scouting Service Award is presented to recognize the outstanding services provided by an adult or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for Asian American youth.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Venturing Leadership Award This award is presented by councils, regions, areas, or the National Council to venturers (the area award is for youth members only) and adult leaders that have made exceptional contributions to Venturing, and who exemplify the Venturing code. Nominees must be registered and involved in Venturing as a Venturer or an adult leader for at least one year. The nominee must hold a leadership position or office at the unit, district, council, area, region or national level (as appropriate for the level of the award presented). Nominees must show exceptional dedication and give outstanding leadership and service to Venturing and to Venturers on the level appropriate for the award.

The award can be presented to an individual at each of the four levels.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program International Scouter Award The International Scouter Award encourages Scouters to broaden their involvement in Scouting through participation in world Scouting activities and recognizes Scouters for their contributions to world Scouting.

This award is performance based and the applicant selects requirements in areas such as providing leadership to international events, giving financial support to international Scouting, and educating others about international Scouting.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program International Catholic Awareness Award The International Catholic Awareness Award encourages Catholic Scouters to broaden their involvement in Scouting through participation in world Scouting activities and to share those experiences with the youth in Scouting the religious dimension of those experiences. This award also recognizes Scouters for their contributions to world Scouting.

This award is only for Catholic Scouters and Catholic adults, is performance based and the applicant selects requirements to complete while assisting at least two youth to earn the International Catholic Awareness Award.

This award is administered by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program BSA Alumni Award

This award is to encourage participation and work in council alumni relations programs; areas of work include alumni identification/promotion, alumni engagement, personal participation, and personal education.

All requirements for this award must have been completed after June 1, 2009 (unless the individual is a NESA member).

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Adult Religious Service Award

The adult religious awards are presented by numerous religious denominations for distinguished volunteer service in the spiritual growth of the youth that are members of the Boy Scouts of America. Individuals must be nominated for these awards, and many of the adult religious awards have tenure, performance, spiritual, and leadership criteria that are prerequisites to nomination.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program William T. Hornaday Gold Certificate

The Hornaday Gold Certificate is presented to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to the education of youth in the conservation of natural resources and environmental improvement at the regional, national, or international level for a minimum of three years.

A certificate is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program William T. Hornaday Gold Badge

The William T. Hornaday Gold Badge is presented to adult leaders that have provided distinguished leadership and a significant commitment to the education of youth in the conservation of natural resources at the district or council level for a minimum of three years.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program William T. Hornaday Gold Medal

The William T. Hornaday Gold Medal is presented to an adult Scouter for unusual and distinguished service in natural resource conservation and environmental improvement at the regional, national, or international level during a period of at least twenty years.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program NESA Life Membership This award is available to those Eagle Scouts that hold life membership in the National Eagle Scout Association.

This square knot is worn in lieu of and not in addition to the Eagle Scout square knot.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Spirit of Scouting Award The Spirit of Scouting Award is presented to a noteworthy individual who has performed exceptional and unusual service to young people in hard-to-reach communities over a long period of time.

A certificate is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Torch of Gold Award The Torch of Gold Award is presented for outstanding service to youth with disabilities.

A certificate is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Woods Services Award The Woods Services Award is a national recognition that was established to honor volunteers who have performed exceptional service and leadership in the field of Scouts with special needs. The Woods Services Award is provided by the Woods Services and Residential Treatment center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, in memory of Luther Wellington Lord. He served as a residential supervisor for more than 23 years at Woods Services. Mr. Lord established this award as part of his service to youth through his involvement with Scouting on a local and national level.

Only one award is presented annually. A plaque is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Meritorious Action Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program National Certificate of Merit

The National Certificate of Merit may be awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has performed a significant act of service that is deserving of special national recognition.

First awarded in 1989.

A certificate is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Medal of Merit

The Medal of Merit may be awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has performed some outstanding act of service of a rare or exceptional character that reflects an uncommon degree of concern for the well-being of others.

First awarded in 1946.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Honor Medal

The Honor Medal may be awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has demonstrated unusual heroism and skill in saving or attempting to save life at considerable risk to self.

First awarded in 1923.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Honor Medal with Crossed Palms

The Honor Medal with Crossed Palms may be awarded in exceptional cases to a youth member or adult leader who has demonstrated unusual heroism and extraordinary skill or resourcefulness in saving or attempting to save life at extreme risk to self. The crossed palms were introduced in 1923, and are to be worn on the medal and not the square knot.

First awarded in 1938.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Community Organization Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Community Organization Awards These awards are presented to adult members of the Boy Scouts of America by an external community organization that is specifically recognized by the Boy Scouts of America. These awards are not Scouting awards, rather, each award is presented by a community service, fraternal, corporate or governmental organization to one of its members for making significant contributions toward the education, service and/or devotion to youth through Scouting. There are currently 17 awards available.

The form of the award varies from organization to organization, and could be a certificate, a lapel pin, medal suspended from a ribbon, or an award suspended from a ribbon and worn around the neck.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal Awarded by: Department of Defense (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps) Department of Homeland Security (Coast Guard)

Awarded to members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard for distinguished service to Scouting.

Members of both the Active Duty and Reserve components of each service are eligible to receive this award.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Marvin M. Lewis Award

Awarded by: Grand Lodge of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks

Awarded annually to four members of the BPO Elks (one per Scouting Region) for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is through the local BPO Elks lodge, selection is made by the Grand Lodge Committee on Scouting.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Masonic Scouter Award Awarded by: Grand Masonic Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of each participating masonic jurisdiction.

Awarded to Master Masons for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is through the local Masonic Lodge. Each Grand Masonic Lodge establishes the selection criteria. Administration of the award is by the Grand Masonic Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Cliff Dochterman Rotary Scouting Service Award

Awarded by: International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians.

Awarded to Rotarians or Rotaractors for distinguished service to Scouting.

Each local Rotary Club may nominate one individual annually, each District Governor may nominate one individual annually, and the Chairman of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians may nominate three individuals annually.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Herbert G. Horton Service to Youth Award Awarded by:

Awarded to members of Alpha Phi Omega for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is by Alpha Phi Omega Chapters, Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Associations, elected officers at the sectional, regional, or national levels. Approval is by the National Scouting Youth Services Committee of Alpha Phi Omega.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program American Legion Square Knot Award Awarded by: The American Legion

Awarded to members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion for distinguished service to Scouting.

This award is presented for completion of certain requirements. Initial approval is by the American Legion Post Commander, and final approval is by the the American Legion Department Commander.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Robert A. Finley, Jr. Sea Scout Service Award

Awarded by: The Power Squadron

Awarded to members of the United States Power Squadron for distinguished service to Sea Scouting.

This award is presented for completion of certain requirements. Approval is by the Membership Committee of the United States Power Squadron.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Veterans of Foreign Wars Scouters Achievement Award Awarded by: The Veterans of Foreign Wars

Awarded to members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for distinguished service to Scouting.

This award is presented for completion of certain requirements. Initial approval is by the Department Commander, and final approval is by the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Headquarters.

Ruritan Scout Leader Community Service Award Awarded by: Ruritan National

Awarded to members of Ruritan National for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is made by a local Ruritan Chapter. Selection is made by Ruritan National.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program

Robert E. Burt Boy Scout Volunteer Award Awarded by: National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution

Awarded to members of Sons of the American Revolution for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is made by a local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution Chapter. Selection is made by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Lions Club International Scouting Service Award

Awarded by: Lions Clubs International

Awarded to members of Lions Clubs International for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is made by a local chapter of the Lions Clubs International. Approval by the Chair of the District Youth/Scouting Committee.

Awarded by: AMVETS

Awarded to members of AMVETS for distinguished service to Scouting.

Application is submitted to the AMVETS National Program Department for approval.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program H. Roe Bartle Training Award Awarded by: Nonprofit Leadership Alliance

This award is to designed to recognize volunteer and professional Scouters who have earned the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential in nonprofit management and leadership, and to recognize professional leadership in nonprofit organization management and leadership thru higher education.

Application is submitted to the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance for approval.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Military Order of World Wars BSA Square Knot Award Awarded by: Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW)

Awarded to members of MOWW for distinguished service to Scouting.

Application is submitted to the MOWW National Scouting Department chair for approval.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Silver Sage Award Awarded by: Philmont Staff Association

Awarded to members of the Philmont Staff Association for exceptional service to Philmont, its participants, the Philmont Staff Association, or any field of human endeavor that brings honor and credit to the legacy of the Philmont staff.

Application is submitted to the Philmont Staff Association for approval.

Awarded by: Alpha Phi Alpha

Awarded to members of Alpha Phi Alpha for distinguished service to Scouting.

Application is submitted to the Alpha Phi Alpha for approval.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program

George Meany Award

Awarded by: AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and AFL-CIO State Federation

Awarded to members of the AFL-CIO for distinguished service to Scouting.

Nomination is made by a local union chapter. Selection is made by the Community Services Committee of the central labor council.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Learning for Life Service Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program William Spurgeon, III Award Presented to individuals, businesses, schools, labor unions, governmental agencies, industries, civic clubs, or community organizations that have rendered exceptional dedication, as well as, significant and outstanding leadership to exploring or to an exploring unit.

A plaque is presented to the recipient. For those individuals that received the award prior to August 1998, a square knot maybe worn on the uniform.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Learning for Life Leadership Award This award is presented by councils to Explorers, high school participants, and adult leaders that have made exceptional contributions to Exploring or the Learning for Life program. Nominees must be involved in Exploring or the Learning for Life program as an Explorer, high school participant, or an adult leader for at least one year. Nominees must show exceptional dedication and give outstanding leadership and service to Exploring or the Learning for Life Program.

A plaque is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Russell C. Hill Award

Presented to individuals, businesses, schools, labor unions, governmental agencies, industries, civic clubs, or community organizations that have made outstanding contributions to character education at the local, state, or national level that has added to the quality of life for families through Learning for Life programs.

A plaque is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Vivian Harris Award Presented to individuals, businesses, schools, labor unions, governmental agencies, industries, civic clubs, or community organizations that have made outstanding contributions to special education at the local, state, or national level that has added to the quality of life for families through Learning for Life programs.

A plaque is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Endowment Recognition Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program James E. West Fellowship Award Presented for a minimum donation in cash, stock, bonds, or the cash equivalent of $1,000 to the endowment fund of the local council. There are four levels of recognition: Bronze: $ 1,000 Silver: $ 5,000 Gold: $10,000 Diamond: $15,000

This award may be presented in honor of an individual, in memory of an individual, or presented to the donor.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Second Century Society Award Presented for a minimum donation in cash, stock, bonds, lead trusts or other tangible assets of $25,000 to the endowment fund, operating fund, to the capital campaign of a local council, or a combination of the three. Donations to a BSA Foundation, high-adventure base, or any BSA entity qualify for this award. Donations are permitted to be cumulative during any five year period.

Award levels are: $25,000, $100,000, $500,000, and $1,000,000.

The recipient wears the James E. West Fellowship Award square knot.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Presidents Leadership Council Awarded for a minimum gift of $1,000,000.00 to the endowment fund of the local council, high adventure facility, BSA Foundation, or other BSA entity.

Award levels are: $1,000,000, $5,000,000, and $10,000,000.

There are customized personal recognition items for each level of donation.

The recipient wears the James E. West Fellowship Award square knot.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program International Donation Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Order of the Condor Awarded by: International Division of the Boy Scouts of America

Awarded for a minimum donation of $1,000 to the Inter-American Scout Foundation.

Award levels: Bronze ($1,000), Silver ($3,000), Gold ($5,000), and Comendador ($10,000).

A plaque is presented to the recipient.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program The World Baden-Powell Fellowship Award Awarded by: The World Scout Foundation

Awarded for a minimum donation of $10,000 to the World Scout Foundation. Award levels: Baden-Powell Fellow ($10,000), Benefactor’s Circle ($25,000), International Circle ($50,000), Chairman’s Circle ($100,000), and Regal Circle ($1,000,000).

A framed certificate and lapel pin are presented to the recipient for the initial award. Other forms of recognition are presented for the higher levels.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Distinguished Service Awards

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Distinguished Commissioner Award Presented after a minimum of five years of active service as a commissioner, completion of the commissioner training program prescribed by the local council, and earning the Commissioner’s Key.

Other requirements include the rechartering of at least ninety percent of those units in the commissioner’s service area, as well as having sixty percent of the units receive the Journey to Excellence Unit Award for two consecutive years.

The Council Commissioner and Assistant Council Commissioner receive a silver plaque, the District Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioners, Roundtable Commissioners receive a gold plaque, and Unit Commissioners receive a bronze plaque.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Distinguished Service Award Created in 1940, the Distinguished Service Award honors those who rendered service to the Order of the Arrow beyond the lodge level. The award is presented to those Arrowmen who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order of the Arrow at a sectional, regional, or national level.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Outstanding Eagle Scout Award

Created in 2010, the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award is presented to an Eagle Scout for outstanding service in his profession at a local or regional level, and for outstanding community service after attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Other requirements include significant accomplishments in the individual’s career, as well as having a solid record of continued community volunteer involvement. It is one of two Scouting awards presented to adults that is dependent upon association with the Boy Scouts of America as a youth.

The recipient does not have to be registered in the Boy Scouts of America.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Distinguished Eagle Scout Award Created in 1969, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is presented to an Eagle Scout for distinguished service in his profession at a national level, and for outstanding community service over a period of at least twenty-five years after attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. It is one of two Scouting award presented to adults that is dependent upon association with the Boy Scouts of America as a youth.

The recipient does not have to be registered in the Boy Scouts of America.

Created in 1973, the District Award of Merit is presented for distinguished service to youth at the district level and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

Created in 1931, the Silver Beaver Award is presented for distinguished service to youth at the council level and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Created in 1942, the Silver Antelope Award is presented for distinguished service to youth at the area or regional level and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

First awarded in 1944.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Created in 1925, the Silver Buffalo Award is presented for distinguished service to youth is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award is Scouting's highest commendation of the invaluable contributions that outstanding Americans make to youth. The service must be national in scope and can be independent of, or directly through, the Boy Scouts of America.

The first Silver Buffalo Award was presented to Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell in 1926.

The recipient does not have to be registered in the Boy Scouts of America.

Created in 2011, the North Star Award is presented to a non- Scouter for significant contributions at the council, area, region, or national levels and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award given to those who support the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Created in 1971, the Silver World Award is presented for distinguished service to youth at the international level and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

Recipients must be a citizen of a country with a Scouting program that is a member of the World Scout Conference.

Members of the Boy Scouts of America are not eligible for this award.

Awards & Recognitions in the Scouting Program Created in 1935, the Bronze Wolf Award is presented for distinguished service to youth at the international level and is awarded to those individuals who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to the World Scout Movement. This award is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

This award is presented by the World Scout Committee.
