BRENDAN BUCKLEY OF ARMY, ELIZABETH BEISEL OF FLORIDA TOP CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® DIVISION I AT-LARGE TEAMS

TOWSON, Md. – Senior lacrosse player Brendan Buckley of the U.S. Military Academy and junior swimmer Elizabeth Beisel of the University of Florida lead the 2013 Capital One Academic All- America® Division I men’s and women’s at-large teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Buckley and Beisel have been chosen as the winners of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the Division I Men’s and Women’s At Large programs, respectively. The at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, , lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men. An engineering management major with a 3.99 G.P.A., Buckley will enter the Field Artillery branch of the U.S. Army and post with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Schweinfurt, Germany. The Massapequa, N.Y., native was awarded the Distinguished Cadet and Superintendent’s Award for Excellence. He became the second Army student-athlete to receive the Senior CLASS Award since April and the second Black Knights’ men’s lacrosse player overall. A three-year starter at close defenseman, Buckley earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America third team honors and was drafted by the Boston Cannons with the 54th overall pick in the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Draft. He was a two-time All-Patriot League first team selection. Buckley led Army with 19 caused turnovers in 2013 and guarded some of the nation’s best attackmen. Army finished 8-6 overall including a 4-2 Patriot League record. Graduating 10th in his class of 1,077 cadets, Buckley started a cadet mentorship program that has included trips to a local elementary school for reading and playing sports with students. He was a USILA Scholar Athlete honoree once. A telecommunications major with a 3.63 G.P.A., Beisel claimed her second NCAA individual championship with a first place finish in the 400 I.M. at the 2013 NCAA Championships. She added five All-America first team honors to her collection this season and now has 14 medals in her career. At the 2013 Southeastern Conference Championships, the North Kingstown, R.I., native won SEC titles in the 400 I.M. and the 200-backstroke. She also collected five All-SEC honors, finishing no lower than second in all three individual events and swimming on two second-place relay teams (400-free and 800-free). – more –

Buckley, Beisel Top Academic All-America® Division I At-Large Team Page 2 Beisel, who was awarded the SEC Commissioner’s Trophy (high point award) for the second straight year, finished the regular season undefeated in the 200-backstroke. She led the Gators with 21 individual victories during the season (not including championships), scoring wins in eight events. A member of the 2012 United States Olympics team, Beisel earned a silver medal in the 400 I.M. and a bronze medal in the 200 backstroke. The 2012 SEC Female Swimmer of the Year has won both the 400 I.M. and the 200 backstroke three years in a row at the SEC Championships. She is a 2012 and 2013 SEC Commissioner's Trophy recipient who led the Gators to a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championship Meet. Capital One Division I Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large First Team Buckley is joined on the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s at-large Division I first team by three wrestlers, two golfers, two swimmers, two ice hockey players and two tennis players. In addition, there is one other lacrosse player, a water polo player, a gymnast and a fencer. Wrestlers Steve Bonanno of Hofstra University, Matt Brown of Penn State University and wrestler Josh Ihnen of the University of Nebraska were named to the first team, along with golfers Nathan Anderson of North Dakota State University and Cory Whitsett of the University of Alabama. Tennis standouts Greg Andrews of the University of Notre Dame and Victor Valente of Georgia State University were also honored. Ice hockey players Nick Bailen of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cheyne Rocha of Army also earned spots on the first team, along with swimmers Alex Lendrum of the University of Southern California and Kyle Owens of Auburn University. Water polo player Jackson Hummeldorf of the U.S. Naval Academy, gymnast Michael Newburger of Ohio State and fencer Maxwell Stearns of Ohio State round out the first team. Buckley is the only repeat first team selection on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men’s at-large team. Bonanno, Ihnen, Anderson, Lendrum and Owens were Capital One Academic All-America® second team picks in 2012, while Bailen was a third team selection last year. Army and Ohio State are the only schools with two first team representatives. An M.B.A. candidate who graduated in May of 2012 with a 3.77 G.P.A. in accounting, Bonanno was a four-time NCAA championship qualifier for Hofstra. A 2012 NCAA All-American and a two-time Colonial Athletic Association wrestling champion at 125-pounds, he was a two-time CAA Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A native of Wantagh, N.Y., Bonanno had a 19-12 overall record in 2012- 13 including a 12-9 mark in dual matches and a 6-0 mark in the CAA. He closed out his Hofstra career by winning 12 of his last 17 matches to finish with a 103-50 career mark. A sophomore with a major in criminology and a 3.97 G.P.A., Brown was the NCAA runner-up and Big Ten champion at 174-pounds while leading Penn State to its third straight NCAA and Big Ten Wrestling championships. A native of West Valley City, Utah, he was the 2013 NCAA Elite 89 wrestling recipient and compiled a 29-5 record including a 11-3 record in duals. An Academic All-Big Ten selection, Brown has a 56-7 career record with 15 pins. Ihnen, a graduate student with a 3.80 G.P.A. in business, was a four-time NCAA championship qualifier and earned 2012 All-America honors wrestling at 184-pounds for Nebraska. He compiled a 27-8 record as a senior, including a 13-4 ledger in dual matches. A native of Sheldon, Iowa, Ihnen was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and All-Big 12 performer, and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. The Oxbow, N.D., native, shot a school record-tying 64 in the final round at Rice to vault from 24th place into a tie for second place. He also tied the school 36-hole record with a 138 in his win at Navy. Whitsett, a junior management major with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A., led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Alabama in scoring with a 70.84 average heading into the NCAA Championships. He went 4-and-3 in his match against Illinois on June 2, leading the Crimson Tide to the program’s first golf national championship. A native of Houston, Texas, Whitsett received the NCAA Elite 89 Men’s Golf award in both 2012 and 2013. He was named as the 2013 SEC Golfer of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was a two-time All-American and All-SEC first team pick. A junior accounting major with a 3.88 G.P.A., Andrews was the two-time Big East Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference selection for Notre Dame. He was named as the Most Outstanding Player in leading the Fighting Irish to the 2013 Big East Tournament Championship. A native of Richland, Mich., Andrews was an eight-time Big East Player of the Week during his career and earned 2011 Big East Freshman of the Year honors. He reached the 2012 United State Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region doubles championship and was a two-time NCAA singles qualifier. A senior majoring in computer info systems with a 4.16 G.P.A., Valente was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference performer who led Georgia State to the 2013 conference title. He advanced to the NCAA championships in both singles and doubles, with his doubles team reaching the round of 16. The San Paulo, Brazil, native received the ITA Southeast Region Senior of the Year and Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship awards. Valente was ranked 64th nationally in singles, compiling a 19- 4 record. He also went 14-2 in doubles competition. He was the ITA Region runner-up and qualified for the USTA/ITA national indoor tournament. A double major in business and management/economics with a 3.88 G.P.A., Bailen led the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) hockey team with 31 points on a team-best 12 goals and 19 assists in 35 games. He was named to the All-ECAC Hockey team, the CCM Hockey National All-America East first teams and was chosen to the All-USCHO second team. A native of Fredonia, N.Y., Bailen scored 33 goals and 72 assists for 105 points in 149 career games for the Engineers. A senior majoring in engineering management with a 4.2 G.P.A. at Army, Rocha was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and won the 2013 Senior CLASS Award for men’s ice hockey. A three-time Atlantic Hockey Association Academic All-Star, he played in all but two games at defenseman for the Black Knights last season, scoring one and adding three assists. A native of Rye, N.H., Rocha spearheaded House of Blues, an awareness campaign for prostate cancer, the preferred charity of Atlantic Hockey. He is active with the Special Olympics and Neighborhood Knights, a team group that provides community service. A bio-chemistry major with a 3.76 G.P.A., Lendrum earned an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship, a Pac-12 Post-Graduate Scholarship and was selected as the Pac-12 Swimming Scholar Athlete of the Year. He capped off his senior year as a member of Southern California’s Pac-12 champion and USC record-setting 800-freestyle relay. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was a two-time first team All-American and led USC to a fourth-place national finish. He reached the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials semifinals in the 200-backstroke, and was a four-time Pac-12 finalist and two-time U.S. National finalist in the event. – more –

Buckley, Beisel Top Academic All-America® Division I At-Large Team Page 4 A biomedical sciences/pre-med major with a 3.87 G.P.A., Owens was a member of Auburn’s 2013 NCAA champion 800-free relay team and was a 15-time NCAA All-American during his career for the Tigers. The Johnson City, Tenn., native was a 12-time Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion, winning six events in both 2012 and 2013, and earned 2012 SEC Swimming and Diving Scholar- Athlete of the Year. Owens, who has been accepted to medical school, was the 2011-12 Auburn University Male Athlete of the Year and twice a member of the SEC Community Service Team. Hummeldorf, a senior majoring in ocean engineering with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A., led the Navy water polo team to a 23-9 record with seven goals and five assists from his center defender position. A native of Coronado, Calif., he has received the service assignment of SEALS (special warfare) upon commissioning. Hummeldorf finished seventh out of 1,080 seniors on the Overall Order of Merit and ranked first on the Academic and Military Orders of Merit. He was a four-time member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Academic team. Newburger, a senior physics and mathematics major with a 3.95 G.P.A., was the 2013 NCAA champion in the pommel horse, becoming the second Ohio State University gymnast to win a title in the event. He was a two-time NCAA All-American in the event and was the 2013 Winter Cup pommel horse champion. The Austin, Texas, native was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2011 and a three- time academic all-conference selection. A senior majoring in political science with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A., Stearns received an NCAA Post- Graduate Scholarship and was the NCAA Elite 89 winner at the 2013 Fencing Championship. He earned second team NCAA All-America honors in 2013 after a sixth place finish in sabre with 15 victories, 97 touches and +21 indicator. The Minneapolis, Minn., native was a three-time NCAA All- American including first-team honors during the Buckeyes’ 2012 national championship campaign. The 15 members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.95. Rocha earned a 4.20 G.P.A. and Valente charted a 4.16 G.P.A., while Anderson, Buckley, Stearns and Whitsett all recorded 4.00 G.P.A.s. Capital One Division I Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large Team Joining Beisel on the Capital One Academic All-America® women’s at-large first team are three golfers, two other swimmers, two ice hockey players, a bowler, a gymnast, a skier, a lacrosse player, a tennis player, a crew team member and a water polo standout. Golfers Amy Anderson of North Dakota State University, Kim Kaufman of Texas Tech University and Stephanie Meadow of the University of Alabama were named to the first team while swimmers Kelsey Floyd of the University of Tennessee and Lauren Gustafson of Purdue University join Beisel on the first team. Ice hockey players Jocelyne Lamoureux of the University of North Dakota and Noora Räty of the University of Minnesota were also honored, along with water polo standout Flora Bolonyai of the University of Southern California, bowler Megan Buja of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, rower Sarah Cowburn of the University of Virginia, lacrosse player Jasmine DePompeo of the U.S. Naval Academy, skier Anja Gruber from the University of Vermont, gymnast Kim Jacob of the University of Alabama and tennis player Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State University. Six of the 15 players on the first team are repeat performers from 2012. Anderson and Beisel were named to the first team last year, while Floyd and Lamoureux were part of the second team. She led the league for the fourth straight year with career-best 72.84 average, posting a low round of 68. The Oxbow, N.D., native had five tournament wins this season and a school record 20 career wins. She led North Dakota State to the 2013 Summit League title and its first-ever NCAA Regional. A three-time Summit League Distinguished Scholar and National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Scholar, Anderson is a four-time NCAA qualifier. Named as the Summit League Golfer of the Year three times and the 2012 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she led the 2011 U.S. Women's Open after first day and also played for the United States in the 2012 Curtis Cup and 2012 World University Golf Championships. Honored as a second team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) in 2013, Kaufman is a senior political science major at Texas Tech with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. She is the first two-time All-American in Texas Tech women’s golf history. She was named honorable mention All- America by the NGCA and Golfweek Magazine as a junior and she averaged 72.3 strokes per round as a senior, recording seven top-five finishes in 12 events played with one tournament victory. Kaufman, who ended the year ranked 22nd in the nation by Golfweek, earned All-Big 12 honors in 2012 and 2013 and was named as the 2013 Big 12 Women’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Clark, S.D., native was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. A junior accounting major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Meadow led the nation in scoring at 71.24 and carded 21 of 33 rounds at par or lower with 12 rounds in the 60’s. A first team WGCA All-American, she is Alabama’s first three-time first team All-American and All-Southeastern Conference honoree. The 2013 SEC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Meadow holds the school record with seven career tournament wins, including the 2013 SEC Championship, the 2013 NCAA East Regional and the 2011 NCAA East Regional. A native of Jordanstown, Northern Ireland, she finished tied for sixth at the 2013 NCAA Championships. She holds school records for season (71.24) and career (72.11) scoring and is a two-time NGCA All-American Scholar. A senior sport management and recreation major with a 3.70 G.P.A., Floyd finished her career with the most career All-America honors in Tennessee history with 24, earning six as a senior. She swam a leg on all three of the Lady Vols' NCAA Championship relay teams, helping Tennessee to a program-best third-place finish at the NCAA Meet. The Lexington, Ky., native is a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was named to the 2012 CSCAA Scholar All-America team. Floyd won six career Southeastern Conference titles and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times. A senior majoring in general health science at Purdue, Gustafson has a 3.99 G.P.A. An NCAA and Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, she competed in five events (two individual, three relays) at the NCAA Championships. At the Big Ten Championships, Gustafson accounted for 28.5 points. A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, the Columbus, Ind., native is a two-time honorable mention All-American. Gustafson established a Purdue record in the 50-free and was part of school records in all five relay events during her career. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. A graduate student in kinesiology, Lamoureux has a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. In 2013, she played in 39 games and scored 35 goals, 46 assists and 81 points for North Dakota en route to first team All- America honors. A finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as the top player in NCAA women's hockey, she was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Most Outstanding Student- Athlete for the second time and became WCHA’s all-time scoring leader with 285 points in 149 games. Lamoureux led the nation with 12 power-play goals and was tied for first in the NCAA with nine game- winning goals. She posted a 0.96 goals against average and a .956 save percentage with 17 shutouts and 776 saves. A native of Espoo, Finland, she was a three- time All-American, a three-time Patty Kazmaier Award finalist and two-time NCAA Tournament MVP. Räty, who holds seven NCAA records, is a four-time All-WCHA honoree, a three-time WCHA All- Academic selection and a 14-time WCHA Player of the Week. The two-time WCHA Goaltending champion is a two-time Olympian for Finland. A member of Southern California’s national champion water polo team and the MVP of NCAA Tournament, Bolonyai is a junior with a double major in economics and mathematics and a 3.39 G.P.A. The Budapest, Hungary, native posted a career-high 17 saves in the national championship game and averaged 13.3 saves per game during the NCAA Tournament. She led USC to the 2013 MPSF title and was a first team All-MPSF selection. A two-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American, she was an ACWPC All-Academic honoree twice and a three-time MPSF Scholar-Athlete. Bolonyai played for the 2012 Hungarian Olympic. A native of Rockford, Ill., Buja is a junior human ecology major with a 4.00 G.P.A. A bowler at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore posted a total pinfall of 11,920 and had a 198.67 average with a 266 high team game. A member of four national championship teams at UMES, Buja was the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Elite 89 Award winner. A two-time All-MEAC selection and MEAC All-Academic honoree, she was named the United States Bowling Congress Star of Tomorrow and was the 2012 and 2013 UMES Scholar Athlete of the Year. Cowburn, a graduate student in architectural history with a 3.95 G.P.A., was a member of Virginia’s Varsity Eight that went 15-2 and placed fourth at the NCAA Championship this season. A native of Worcestershire, England, she is a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Year member and was named All-ACC twice. A member of the 2012 national championship team, Cowburn was a 2012 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) first team All-American and was named to the 2012 ACC All-Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll. A senior political science major with a 3.42 G.P.A., DePompeo scored 127 points with 56 goals, 71 assists, and a .519 shooting percentage to lead the Navy lacrosse team to a 19-2 record and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sayville, N.Y., native led the nation in points and points per game (6.05) en route to Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) third team All-America honors. A three-time All-South Region honoree, DePompeo was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year three times. The NCAA active leader in points and assists, she was twice named Patriot League Tournament MVP and earned PL All-Academic Team honors twice. A junior business administration major with a 3.95 G.P.A., Gruber was the 2013 NCAA national champion in classical as Vermont finished third at the NCAA Ski Championships and won its third- straight Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) championship. A 2013 EISA All-East first team pick, she was named to the second team in 2012. The Leutkrich, Germany, native was named to the 2013 NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team and was a nominee for the 2013 Elite 89 Award. Jacob, a junior exercise science major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., led the Alabama gymnastics team with 14 individual titles, 23 scores of 9.9 or better and 51 routines overall in 2013. The 2013 NCAA Elite 89 Award winner, Jacob led Alabama to 2011 and 2012 NCAA team championships and a third- place finish in 2013. A seven-time All-American who earned three honors this year, she was a two- time National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Scholastic All-American. The 2013 NCAA Regional uneven bars and balance beam champion, Jacob was the 2013 and 2012 Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. – more – Buckley, Beisel Top Academic All-America® Division I At-Large Team Page 7 Ranked No. 15 in singles and No. 26 in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at Kansas State, Niedermayerova is a junior majoring in economics with a 3.96 G.P.A. She posted a 32- 10 singles record and a 27-12 mark in doubles. Niedermayerova reached the Round of 16 for the second straight season at the NCAA Singles Championships and also advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championships. The two-time ITA All-American was the 2011 and 2013 ITA Central Region Player to Watch. A native of Brno, Czech Republic, she was the 2013 Big 12 Conference No. 1 doubles champion and set Kansas State records for singles wins in a season (32), doubles wins in a season (27) and career singles wins (80). She is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. The 15 members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I At-Large women’s first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.82. Four student-athletes, Buja, Jacob, Kaufman and Meadow, have perfect 4.00 G.P.A’s.
