It is currently the highest tower in China and the third highest tower in the world. The construction of Canton Tower was initiated on November 25th 2005. On September 28th 2010, Guangzhou Construction Investment Group held a press conference, releasing the official name of the tower – “Canton Tower”. In 2010, the spectacular lighting show and the splendid firework show of Canton Tower during the opening ceremony of the Sixteenth Asian Games won worldwide attention. Canton Tower was officially open to the public on October 1st, 2010. Canton Tower is 600 meters high, with 450 meters of its main body and 150 meters of its antenna, which makes it the highest tower in China and third highest in the world. The tower shows a spirit of “dynamic Guangzhou welcoming challenges and embracing the world”. With its unique shape and design, Canton Tower has become a magnificent scene on the New City Central Axes, adding beauty and charm to the Pearl River. There is one smaller rotating ellipse at the top twisting up counterclockwise with the other larger rotating ellipse at the bottom, which creates a “slim waist” in the middle and makes it seem like a lady looking behind with full passion and emotion. The twisting shape leads to changing curves of the tower, by which one can see different pictures of the tower from different angles. Canton Tower is quite unique among all the towers worldwide in terms of both its height and appearance. Observation Deck Cloud Observation Deck and Star Observation Deck are perched on the 107th and 108th floors of Canton Tower, where visitors can enjoy two themes of the blue sky and white clouds at 428 meters as well as the starry sky at night at 433.2 meters. Standing in the halls, you can overlook the urban architectures built on the new central axis and the scenery along the Pearl River. The Glass Walk made of transparent double layer glass offers you intense emotions and excitement as you view the world beneath your feet. Bubble Tram Bubble Tram encircles at the top of the tower at 455 meters high and is the world’s highest horizontal ferris wheel. It consists of 16 crystal sightseeing spherical cabins rotating smoothly along the track which is 15 degrees slant to the main structure. The carriage pivots by a newly-initiated “Level Gauge” which ensures the stability of the bubbles where visitors can enjoy the panoramic city view of Guangzhou. .
