V.- MESHES FOR INTRAABDOMINAL PLACEMENT (LAPAROSCOPIC) PICTURES NAME of the products Soft Tissue Patch MANUFACTURER Gore DESCRIPTION e-PTFE mesh for intraperitoneal placement For reconstruction of hernias or soft tissue deficiencies, surgeons require a prosthesis affording a secure repair with decreased risk of recurrence, increased patient comfort postoperatively, and minimal complications such as adhesions and fistula formation. The GORE-TEX® Soft Tissue Patch has long been the prosthetic patch of choice for soft tissue repairs. Composed of the inert biomaterial expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), it features a microporous structure allowing for host tissue incorporation. GORE-TEX® Soft Tissue Patch meets the unique challenges of laparoscopic hernia repair and inguinal herniorrhaphy, as well as temporary bridging of fascial defects. It is contraindicated for the reconstruction of cardiovascular and orthopedic defects. The GORE-TEX® Soft Tissue Patch has material and suture/staple retention strength greater than the most commonly used meshes. The biological inertness of the prosthesis, combined with softness and conformability in vivo, minimizes foreign-body response, erosion into the bowel, and adhesions to surrounding viscera. The GORE-TEX® Soft Tissue Patch offers ease of handling, including cutting and shaping to size without fraying. Pre-configured patches requiring little or no trimming before implantation are also provided. ADVANTAGES • Composed of the inert biomaterial expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), it features a microporous structure allowing for host tissue incorporation. • Unique challenges of laparoscopic hernia repair and inguinal herniorrhaphy • • http://www.goremedical.com/stp/ PICTURES NAME of the products Dual Mesh Biomaterial MANUFACTURER Gore DESCRIPTION e-PTFE mesh for intraperitoneal placement In certain hernia and soft tissue reconstructions, and in temporary bridging of fascial defects, it is sometimes necessary to encourage host tissue ingrowth along one surface, while minimizing tissue attachment along another surface. GORE® DUALMESH® Biomaterial is a soft, conformable, ePTFE materialthat offers a unique, two-surface design intended for such applications. The biomaterial features two functionally distinct surfaces: the textured CORDUROY Surface encourages host tissue incorporation while the smooth surface minimizes tissue attachment to the material. ADVANTAGES • Maximizing peritoneal ingrowth while minimizing visceral tissue attachment in hernia, soft tissue and fascial reconstruction • • http://www.goremedical.com/dualmesh/ • PICTURES NAME of the products Dual Mesh Plus MANUFACTURER Gore DESCRIPTION e-PTFE mesh for intraperitoneal placement GORE® DUALMESH® PLUS Biomaterial is the first two-surface hernia repair material with antimicrobial technology for controlling potential operative contamination of the material. This advanced ePTFE biomaterial contains two antimicrobial preservative agents, silver carbonate and chlorhexidine diacetate, which act to inhibit microbial colonization of, and resist initial biofilm formation on, the device for up to 14 days post-implantation. Using zone of inhibition bioassays, substantial preservative activity associated with the device has been demonstrated against laboratory strains and clinical isolates of the some organisms ADVANTAGES Maximizing peritoneal ingrowth while minimizing visceral tissue attachment in hernia, soft tissue and fascial reconstruction demonstrated against laboratory strains and clinical isolates of the following organisms: Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Group A Streptococcus, Acinetobacter baumannii • http://www.goremedical.com/dualmeshplus/ • PICTURES NAME of the products Dual Mesh Plus with holes MANUFACTURER Gore DESCRIPTION e-PTFE mesh for intraperitoneal placement GORE® DUALMESH® PLUS Biomaterial is also available with holes. These macropores encourage faster tissue incorporation, while maintaining the benefits of GORE® DUALMESH® Biomaterial. It also offers all the performance advantages of GORE® DUALMESH® Biomaterial, such as rapid host tissue incorporation and minimal foreign- body response. It is a film of condensed polytetrafluoroethylene (cPTFE) with very low density (0.9 g/cm3) and a macroporous star-shaped structure (2.4 mm). Omyra® Mesh is the first mesh in a monolayer, non-coated format which has antiadhesive and bacterial resistant properties. The cPTFE material improves the adhesion prevention features of the traditional expanded PTFE, whereas the star-macroporous structures enhance a fast tissue integration like the one achieved with polypropylene meshes. Furthermore, the transparent monolayer that Omyra® Mesh provides, offers excellent handling, especially in laparoscopic procedures. ADVANTAGES • Highly biocompatible with star pore structures • Macropores to allow an excellent tissue integration • Fast neo-peritoneum formation covering the mesh • Impairment of bacterial growth • Reduction of adhesion formation • Condensed PTFE • Transparent and tailorable ensuring an optimal handling • http://www.bbraun.com/cps/rde/xchg/bbraun- com/hs.xsl/9094.html PICTURES NAME of the products COMPOSIX™ EX Mesh MANUFACTURER Bard, Davol DESCRIPTION Heavy-weight polypropylene/ePTFE composite for laparoscopic repair of ventral and incisional hernias ADVANTAGES • Two distinctly different sides: Polypropylene BARD® Mesh on one side to promote tissue ingrowth and sub-micronic ePTFE on the other side to minimize adhesions to the prosthesis. • Elliptically shaped design: Reduces the need to trim the mesh, saving time. • Low Profile: Makes it ideally suited for laparoscopic ventral hernia repairs. • Sealed Edge: Prevents exposure of the polypropylene mesh side from contact with the bowel, thus potentially reducing the chances of adhesions around the edge of the prosthesis. http://www.davol.com/products/soft-tissue- reconstruction/hernia-repair/ventral-hernia- repair/laparoscopic-repair-options/composix- ex-mesh/ PICTURES NAME of the products COMPOSIX™ L/P Mesh MANUFACTURER Bard, Davol DESCRIPTION Light-weight, low profile polypropylene BARD® Soft Mesh specifically designed to meet the meticulous challenges of laparoscopic ventral hernia repair ADVANTAGES Made with lightweight, low profile • polypropylene BARD® Soft Mesh that is approximately 60% lighter than traditional polypropylene mesh. • Lightweight, large pore polypropylene matrix leaves less foreign body mass than traditional polypropylene mesh. • Easier handling and laparoscopic insertion – all sizes can fit through a trocar. • Optional Introducer Tool, which is packaged with larger sizes, makes insertion even easier. • Two distinctly different sides: polypropylene BARD® Soft Mesh on one side to promote tissue ingrowth and sub-micronic ePTFE on the other side to minimize tissue attachment to the prosthesis. • http://www.davol.com/products/soft-tissue- reconstruction/hernia-repair/ventral-hernia- repair/laparoscopic-repair-options/composix-lp- mesh/ PICTURES NAME of the products SEPRAMESH™ IP Composite MANUFACTURER Bard, Davol DESCRIPTION Davol is excited to offer an innovative mesh combined with a proven absorbable barrier to minimize tissue attachment to the mesh. The absorbable layer is built on a foundation of proven Sepra* technology, supported by 11 years of clinically demonstrated success.
