It has efficiently dealt and is dealing with the local problems of agricultural production system in different agro-climatic conditions of northern part of West Bengal through research and development. Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya is playing a pivotal role to make agriculture more attractive, knowledge vibrant as a profession both for farmers and the students. Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalya has one of the most outstanding faculties in the nation. The tradition of excellence continues today. The teachers of this university are experts and scholarly innovators in every agricultural, horticultural and agricultural engineering field and speciality. As an instructor who participates in the teaching culture at the University, he/she has a great deal of latitude for how he/she teaches his/her course. Their teaching, however, also contributes to our collective mission as undergraduate and postgraduate educators. The faculty members have established an environment conducive to learning, one where ideas can be exchanged freely and easily, engaged the students in learning, where students are motivated to learn, intellectually stimulated and challenged, supported for student learning, where students have access to the academic help they need from instructors and from across the University and also integrated the assessment into student learning, where assignments and tests are part of the learning process, give students an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and provide students a sense of progress in the course. Keeping all these in view there is an urgent need of preparing the directory of the University teachers who are the prime movers of the University. This directory will try to make a journey through the small introduction of the University teachers. The task of preparation of the teachers’ directory of the University could have been completed only with keen support and involvement of all Faculties and the University administration. Still, I would like to make a special mention of Dr. Kausik Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Extension, Dr. Nazir Ahmed Pala, Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry, Dr. Gopal Shukla, Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry and Prof. Suchand Dutta, Professor, Regional Research Station, Terai Zone, who have extended their support in the entire process of compilation, designating and editing the directory with their brilliant aptitude and skill.     RESEARCH ARTICLE Land Tenures in Cooch Behar District, West Bengal: A Study of Kalmandasguri Village Ranjini Basu* Abstract: This paper describes and analyses changes in land tenure in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal. It does so by focussing on land holdings and tenures in one village, Kalmandasguri. The paper traces these changes from secondary historical material, oral accounts, and from village-level data gathered in Kalmandasguri in 2005 and 2010. Specifically, the paper studies the following four interrelated issues: (i) land tenure in the princely state of Cooch Behar; (ii) land tenure in pre-land-reform Kalmandasguri; (iii) the implementation and impact of land reform in Kalmandasguri; and (iv) the challenges ahead with respect to the land system in Kalmandasguri. The paper shows that an immediate, and dramatic, consequence of land reform was to establish a vastly more equitable landholding structure in Kalmandasguri.
